I see in a piece this weekend by Michael Burgess on Tony Hudson that he aspires to managing a big club and hopes to do so within a few years. Hardly a ringing endorsement that he plans to devote himself to the development of NZ football. It looks like he's just using the AWs as a stepping stone to a decent coaching job in Europe or Asia now that he has to get out of Bahrain.

He doesn't sound like someone who is going to stick around and develop NZ international age group teams. Could be gone as soon as a better offer comes along. I don't blame him for wanting to escape Bahrain, but it looks like we're just a leg up.

We'd be better off sticking with Emblen or the Rufer brothers who have shown commitment to NZ football. That's what we need.

If Hudson can get us to a World Cup then I don't give two shits what he does afterwards.

Coaches generally don't hang around for a decade, so as long as the next four year cycle goes well I'll be happy with him.

Yeah, let's go for someone with no ambition. That's sounds good.

Emblen didn't even bother applying for the job ffs.

Hudson has a chequered past and a playing career ruined by alcoholism it seems:

 http://www.nzherald.co.nz/football-soccer/news/art...

(second half of report)

A recovering alcoholic but seems like the kind of guy who has a lot of willpower, has taken the necessary steps with AA and has it under control.

Finally got on the wagon some time during his stint in the USA in the last eight years:

"...he eventually went to the US to revive a career in football. He picked up a player-coaching job but the demons were never far away.

"I would turn up to training and couldn't get out of the car," he said. "I would be shaking, sweating and in tears. I would start on beer and go on to vodka. But it was anything."

After waking up and seeing his car on the kerb again, according to the Express, he took himself to an AA meeting and began a new chapter from which he hasn't looked back...."

Perhaps his problems with the bottle is one of the reasons why he has walked out of bahrain and thrown his lot in with NZ. Bahrain in the short term was probably more attractive then NZ, an important tournament coming up and no doubt the dollars were significantly better. If however you hate the place and are a recovering alcoholic then it's probably not a good place to be - hence the move.

It's "Goodbye, Asian Football Confederation!" for NZ for some years now as a result of snatching Bahrain's coach though.

Unfortunately, the President of the Bahrain FA is also President of AFC (since May last year) and on FIFA's Executive Committee.

Do we still need to get the Nix's license extension past the AFC?

Whereupon he gets decked by Kevin Fallon who's hanging around NZF sniffing for a job.

Big Kev had just taken Anthony Hudson out to a cafe to talk up his credentials as his prospective assistant and slipped something from his hip flask into his coffee when he wasn't looking.

Anthony Hudson then states: "I've come all this way just to learn from the legendary Fallon. Heeeesh the mashter at woozzz feet I sitttt......."

From out behind a closet (can you be behind a closet?) popped Neil Emblem whom was very much non committal about helping out either of the 3 coaches in the room as the punches broke out. He stated 'Well you see those guys know who I am and what I have done and I might like to help them some day but right now, if they need help in this fight, they know where to find me.' and then was very disappointed when no one asked him for help.
