Tonight when told by fans that they want him to stay and asked whether he would, he just smiled and said "I dunno man, tell the club." Make of that what you will, but it sounds like the higher-ups in the club are being stingey and won't give him a better deal. I would've thought retaining Krishna is one of the most important things for the club to do, he's so iconic and is a name that even non-phoenix regulars know. I asked my girlfriend who her favourite nix player was to see if she could name any, she said Krishna and Connor Pain. Please Nix owners, don't let Connor Pain be my girlfriend's one and only favourite "phoenix" player. (I took her to a Mariners game, for those of you confused by that)

Heres a question - whats our move if he won't sign unless he's made a marquee? It's hard to say over the last few seasons that he hasn't played like a marquee wage player, but the club definitely would want him under the cap still. Maybe if Durante retires they can boost his current salary with part of that, Dura has gotta be on big money

Isn't there a senior/long term player salary cap top up thing? Surely Krishna has been around long enough for that?
I would understand if a foreign club offered him more than the a-league can afford with salary caps but I could not abide losing Krishna to another a-league club. Whatever they can offer to steal him we should be able to match to keep him.

IMO a lot of a-League clubs may hold off big resignings $ and length until FFA/FIFA is concluded or the future direction is more known.  (No Fax or Insider trading here)

Loyalty Players – A Club can spend up to a collective $200,000 across any number of Players that have given 5 or more consecutive seasons of service to the Club. A portion of a Loyalty Player’s contract value is excluded from the Salary Cap based on a progressive scale from 25% (5th continuous season) to 50% (10th continuous season onwards);

Next season will be Krishna's 6th, so up 30% of his salary can become exempt. If this is Dura's last season, that would free up a lot more of the 200k available to go towards topping up Kirshna's deal.

part of the problem might be that clubs still don't know if the league is moving to 4+1 for foreign players.

... the +1 being an AFC player, am I right? Of course it would be much fairer (and a better decision for the game globally) if that included OFC players as well, or perhaps just for the Phoenix.

Hope Krishna can get his NZ citizenship soon, another import spot would be very handy.

subdued celebration from Roy last night, maybe cos it was due to the fact that the jets were down to 10, or it was against Ernie??

looked exactly the same to me.

He has always played it cool and done the heart symbol thing after goals. I just looked at highlights clips of his goals and a couple of knee slide celebrations aside, it’s always been like that.

Even after he scored this screamer in November, and nobody said anything then:

Krishna goal

Did I see Roy cross himself as well as make his heart-shape? I didn't know he was a Christian. (With a name like that, it would be like being a Hindu called Jesus)

Yes he's Christian. Thankfully he doesn't make a big deal of it and ram home the thanking god part in postmatch interviews like other players around the league do...

There were few smiles from anyone during and after the game last night. I suppose there are various ways you could interpret it but I don't really care. If they keep winning and get into the playoffs they can all look as miserable as they like, I'll be doing plenty of smiling on their behalf!

People's religious beliefs are one thing, people's anxious fantasies that lead them to do kinesiological analysis in Roy's every gesture to see if he's quitting the club are another. :D

as a side note a number of the other players cross themselves as they enter and leave the field, Dura for one, I'm pretty sure Rossi does it too. And then, why the fudge does it matter??

I'm a woman of the world and I've been to many dodgy and underground venues and mixed with a wide variety of characters and am linked with the underworld and I know people and they tell me things...

... but I still can't figure out how you can make "flat track bully" sound like a code for gay sex.

Six months from now we'll realise that Krishna started hating it here from the moment he inadvertently read the discussion on this forum.
