Interesting response from Roy when someone asked him about a possible move to PSV

"There was talk between the club and myself but unfortunately visa issues got in the way"

Anyone know about this?

Roy also spoke of his enjoyment in watching "Robbie Flower" playing for the North Queensland Fury.

Hey Roy, I'm  your biggest fan, can I have your car, house and bank account? Shheeeesh, Dale, you're  right, some people ask those type of questions.

My question would have been along the lines of, which club other than the Phoenix, Barca, Madrid and the top 4 or 6 in England, which club would you wish to play for?

To be fair, I don't think he was ready for it 5 years ago. Ricki was not the only person that passed on him in the HAL.

I think going to a different team and continuing his scoring in a different style of play and system helped a lot. Its taken him the best part of 9 months (?) to get up to speed with the Phoenix system so he was not sure fire straight away.

he has done well but more importantly, he is co tinuing to try and improve, not sit back and take it for granted. There really is a much more professional approach going on behind the scenes with the players.

I think you have nailed it. It does not sound like he has signed and then gone 'I've made it'. I am still sceptical but admittedly my prediction of him being a failure is out the window so credit to him for doing well in the chance he has been given.

I think in a Mike Hussey-type way it has been good for Krishna to play in the ASBP- it means he has experience of scoring goals from every position on the ground, off both feet.

Sometimes he's as frustrating as all heck when he goes for goal when he could have squared it, but that was a great winner. He just instinctively felt that the keeper didn't have the near post covered and was worried about the other players.

Roy has been great this season,  lightening quick and scoring goals - a good striker always has a greedy streak.  Keep it up Roy

And a very very good striker knows when to lay a ball off

I think it is part of a decent striker's DNA to back themsselves and that is probably why they often try and score themselves in almost impossible situations when an easier adn better option is to pass to someone else.

I frequently own up to getting this one wrong. I wrote him off as a rubbish signing.

For folks like me, where you are expecting nothing, he has infinitely exceeded the expectations of him and could probably look at a nice contract upgrade when it expires if he does the same next year. I guess in that respects, its actually nice to be wrong.

As far as "Flat Track Bully" goes I think its possibly a different version of this in that he relies a lot on his pace so you could almost label him as having 1 trick to a certain degree rather than a player that only performs if factors are in his favour. I think the 1st game the Griffiths came on for Krishna (was it Melbourne?), you could see the difference in that all Krishna did all day was run at pace but it never worked for him so there needed to be a different set of ideas - what Griffiths bought to the table. Thats when you ask 'is the player clever enough to realise that what he is doing today is not working so needs to try other ideas'. It's hard to label him as a flat track bully when he has scored against some good teams and taken some good goals at times when we have needed it and sometimes when we have being under it.

I guess like all players, this really is his 'debut season' because last year he did nothing other than train. I would be interested if he does the same next year. He will be a year better for the experience and will have learned but also teams will have seen him and he wont be as surprising.

Regardless, I wish him well

Krishna is far from a one trick pony. A one trick pace-pony wouldn't of scored that 2nd goal; he is surprisingly strong in the tackle - brushing off little devil imp Jamieson - and has great feet. The one thing he could improve on (though most strikers are like this) is judging whether taking a shot or passing is a better idea.

I'm continuously surprised by how often he catches defenders out with his pace on defence. He seems to catch them on the ball and is able to nick it off them very high up the pitch. I would have thought by now they would have realised how fast he is.

I was just saying before his second goal (and this is an opinion of him that Ive long held) that one of his only weaknesses is that hes a bit physically weak on the ball at times, and if he can play stronger he'd be a superb player - then he does exactly that. Holds the ball, forces his way around a defender, cuts in and scores. Brilliant.

Think it's impressive that no matter how many times he's hacked down, he gets back up and doesn't seem adversely affected. Resilient is probably the word I'd use to describe him.

I agree with this. I'd also add that he seems to have a decent leap on him as well. I'm not saying he'd be a target man but he does keep defenders honest. He's also tricky enough with ball at feet - not Burns good, but then again, who is?

He absolutely skinned Risdon in the weekend when on the left it was hilarious. Apparently Rizzo is meant to be the next big thing.

Roy does drift in and out of games but he's a very good addition to the squad and really is developing his game.

Lead our attack in that game, showed he can beat a player and shoot off either foot.

And how about the pass to put Hicks in too, just quietly? I thought he had a barnstorming game, especially after fluffing a goal in the first minute or so.

I get what you are saying, and I agree we have a lot more credability now.

However money talks. And when it comes to money, average attendances matter. And when it comes to that, despite our current position on the ladder, we do not lead the league... MOVC, for example, have a MUCH bigger pool of funding than us. And the places we could potentially lose him too are not limited to within the a league... and beyond the a league there are MUCH deeper pockets.

And also he's more likely to be spotted by a Euro club playing at a club in one of the bigger Australasian cities? I assume that´s what Marco was after.

I'd be happy if Roy Krishna gets picked up overseas. What a story that'd be for aspiring young Fijian football players.

Krishna has way more than just pace. He is a good finisher, he can pass too, and he's committed on defence. For me his only weakness is the drifting out of games thing that Merrick has mentioned in the past. Even then it's not that bad.

He fluffed squaring that ball at the weekend yes, but he does not have a reputation for that, it was one error.

So much this. Look at the assists he's put on this season. Burns vs. WSW at the caketin in November, Bonevacia away to Adelaide in Round 6 are two that spring immediately to mind. One of the hall marks of his improvement this season for me has been his creative work down the wing laying on good balls for others to have scoring chances from.
