Gosh - they have fallen.  Years ago there were some epic contests between them and USA for the no. 1 spot.  I guess they must have suffered from the blight in Chinese football this century.

I wouldn't read too much into it. The girls were still finding their feet after a ten-hour flight from Sydney to Hong Kong, and six hours sitting around in HK airport before a three-hour flight to Jihan.

11.30pm Friday NZ time is when they'll have the gloves off and be more in tune with their surroundings.

Looks like that livestream link's a dead duck!

I've just been advised that the game is no longer live on TV in China, which may well go some way to explaining the lack of streaming.

Browsing through the interweb (USA vs China clashes) I stumbled across this:
http://www.theglobalgame.com/blog/about/

I only read one blog but it appears quite crerbral so might appeal to the Doloras's of this site (when they're not putting it out to other goalkeepers).

Edit: I only posted it here because NZ has just played China. Not sure where else it logically fits as it is primarily aimed at women's footy.

Football Ferns secure post-World Cup deals Three Football Ferns have signed agreements for after their FIFA Womens World Cup campaign in Germany with two bound for professional clubs in Europe and one headed for a top American university on full scholarship.

June 13, 2011

AUCKLAND Three Football Ferns have signed agreements for after their FIFA Womens World Cup campaign in Germany with two bound for professional clubs in Europe and one headed for a top American university on full scholarship.

Kirsty Yallop, who played for Kristianstad before returning to New Zealand to base herself in Auckland for World Cup preparations returns to Sweden with the aim of helping Vittsjo win promotion to the country's top flight, while striker Emma Kete has signed her first professional contract with Lincoln Ladies in the English WSL and Rosie White, who turned 18 last week, joins UCLA.

Ketes and Yallops contracts last until the end of the current European season while White will embark on a four year stint as a Bruin, reviewed at the end of each academic year.

Currently in Switzerland, where the Ferns take on Wales, Colombia and Denmark in preparation for their World Cup campaign less than two weeks away, all three were excited to be able to focus their energy on the World Cup.

Its great to have something set in stone instead of having to worry about that as well. It means I can just concentrate on doing what I need to do and the team needs to do to do well in Germany, said Yallop.

There are more opportunities happening in womens football and the better we do as a team the more will come our way as individuals. Its great to see Football Ferns playing in different leagues all over the world now.

New professional Kete hoped to find her scoring touch for Lincoln and extend her stay.

Turning pro is something that Ive been working towards for five years and to think Ill be playing in the womens equivalent of the English Premier League with tough games week in week out is really exciting, said Kete.

From what I hear Lincoln have been competing really well but not converting chances so hopefully I can contribute in that department.

Current professionals in the Football Ferns include captain Rebecca Smith (VfL Wolfsburg, Germany), Ali Riley (Western New York Flash, USA) and Hayley Moorwood (Chelsea, England) while Hannah Bromley (Herfoder SV, Germany) did not make the final squad.

Meanwhile, White also harbours hopes of turning professional but for now was happy to pursue a University education while playing football.

There are ten new recruits this year and the others have all played at U-17 or U-20 level for the USA so its going to be a very high standard, White said.

Im going into the unknown a little bit but Im sure it will be very good for me.

Turning professional is a big goal for me. I dont know where the best place to play will be in four years time but Ill cross that bridge when I come to it."

New Zealand face Japan, England and Mexico in Group B of the FIFA Womens World Cup beginning on June 27.

This is a four-team tournament playing for the inaugural Matchworld Women's Cup, and it's the final part of the Women's World Cup preparations for both Columbia and ourselves.

So why state in Sky Sports magazine this month that the games are going to be televised? (Refer James McOnie's column).

Further to my earlier posting, I've had it confirmed by my usually reliable sources within Sky Towers that the Women's World Cup Finals will definitely be televised here - usual arrangements (Football Ferns group games plus all games from quarter-finals onwards).

And they won't be playing to empty houses either - see below.

FIFA Womens World Cup rouses the crowds: 670,000 tickets already sold

With ten days still to go until the opening match at Berlin Olympic Stadium, 670,000 tickets have been sold for the 32-match FIFA Womens World Cup 2011. The figure, representing 75 percent of the 900,000 tickets available for general sale, was announced on Thursday by Local Organising Committee (LOC) President Steffi Jones at German FA (DFB) headquarters in Frankfurt am Main.

At least 10,000 tickets have been sold for 30 of the 32 games and 15 matches have secured a crowd of over 20,000, a good indication of the broad appeal of the first FIFA Womens World Cup to be held in Germany.

Were very upbeat about this tremendous response, which confirms that the Womens World Cup is proving a hit in Germany. Were well on course to meet our target of filling the stadiums to 80 per cent of capacity, commented Jones.

Apart from purchases from Germany, accounting for 90 per cent of the total, ticket orders have been received from 50 other countries, including Tanzania, Bolivia, Fiji and Lebanon. Furthermore, the OC Ticketing Centre has processed a number of applications on behalf of expat communities in Germany, with Japanese, Brazilian and American groups leading the way.

Throughout our Welcome Tour, which we successfully concluded in Japan last week with our 15th stop, we were repeatedly reminded of the tournaments huge international appeal. Well be welcoming fans drawn from a wide variety of cultures, which will undoubtedly enrich the tournament, Jones continued.

Hi,

For the first time ever, Panini will be issuing a sticker book for the Women's World Cup Finals. It'll be on sale in Germany throughout the tournament, and will be a fantastic souvenir of the event.

Get in touch with the Panini folk - www.paninionline.com - to see if you can order an album plus a full set of stickers. They're usually top notch like that, and will give them an indication of the market demand here, particularly in terms of NZ 2015, when we host the U-20 World Cup Finals.

Cheers,
