hey guys, just before i slept last night it hit me
as things are going it doesnt look like we will get a farewell game.
and i know australia said they didnt want to play us.

but how does this sound

a local NZ team vs a local Aus team
presumably mostly a-league players
would be good to get a rivallry going again
and has positives for both sides
can work kind of like a trial game for both sides
and could be touted as a kinda of a-league all star game or something similar
pim will want to see more what his players have, i know got asian cup, but this could help to
and this can only help nz preperation to

thoughts?

maybe get breeze as the ref? lol
but in all seriousness what you guys think?
theres no place like home

We would love it but Aussie aren't interested. And to be fair from them, I don't think many (any?) of their WC squad are going to be coming from the A-League bar Culina.

Actually come to think of it, this has pretty much confirmed that we wont be getting a home game against anyone. Not so stoked right now.

Hack, from a busines point of view though, this game is not suited to the 100,000 capacity MCG. The Melbourne crowd is too sophisticated to be sold a pre-match, non-qualification warm up game such as this.

Play it at the new 30,000 Rectangular Stadium, play it in Perth, Adelaide, or NZ for that matter.

It's good for you guys, but the Melbourne crowd in particular won't be sold on it.

I'll leave it at that for now.

You've got no business sense have you? 'Bitching' fans as you put it means less ticket sales. Put aside the 'we wanna beat Australia mentality' for a tick, how would this game look on TV if there was 20,000 there?

The FFA is foolish to think that people will go to this game no matter what. The main NZ-related sporting team Melbourne wants to see is the All Blacks. This game should (from a business sense) be played in Perth, Adelaide, or NZ.

If you guys can fly in a few then good, but geez, there'll be a voter backlash against the FFA for this.

Why do I care if the FFA fill their coffers or not? I just want to see the All Whites live.

If Australian fans think that they are somehow above playing us because they got through their group at the last WC and ditched Oceania then bugger them. Will be a great game. We will step up 10 gears like all New Zealand teams against Australia in any sport.

Crowd will still be decent, you'd hope a fair few kiwi's will make the trip over plus there are plenty of us here already.
Really stoked with that news, couldn't be any better!

Australia playing NZ has always been indifferent for as long as I can remember. 9000 showed up to a Aus vs NZ World Cup match in Melbourne in June 1993. It's not about 'looking above NZ' but we know that beating New Zealand won't win us the World Cup. World game son, means you have to beat the WORLD to be the best in it.

For the record, the REAL action happens in South Africa in June and July, you want to make a REAL impression on the world, do it there, not at the MCG in a pre-tournament hit-out.

Concentrate on South Africa mate, this game is a pre-tournament match between 2 countries. Nothing more.

We lol'd at that comment here on the fact that Brumby is trying to pump it up. Seriously, we'd be happy to hand over hosting rights to NZ for this one.
