Stadium inspection happening tomorrow morning. Playing surface itself is fine - but need to check damage to the stadium itself to make sure it is safe for people to be in.

I'd imagine the inspection would happen pretty quickly and we should know by tomorrow, engineers are pretty bloody fast at opening structures, and the stadium was engineered by one of the top firms in the country.

fudge I understand that it may have to be cancelled, but I will be absolutely distraught, been saving up for weeks for the trip down, 12 pubs and the game, (student flying down from Auckland) if it's postponed I will have to miss it
I feel for you Jaickin, you could talk to the airline you're flying with and explain the situation (once you know if it will be postponed) and see if you can get a credit or swap the flights and waive the change fee. Worth a shot to ask. Same goes with accommodation if you've booked somewhere. There might be some victory fans who will be making the trip and will be in the same boat as you.
I'll personally be gutted if the game is postponed since it's the last one at Westpac for 2016, and I'm unsure if I'll be making the home away from home trips. Safety of the patrons will be paramount.

They would postpone. They've done so for weather affected games in the past, can't see them moving the game but still playing it on Saturday. Far too hard to organise TV etc with just 72 hours notice.

A postponement is a good outcome for the Phoenix from the point of view that it means we don't suffer from players coming back out of an international windows and they get an extra week of rest. It is not necessarily a bad thing.

You can never be 100% certain until a proper engineering inspection is done but the strength of the earthquake as it impacted Wellington in terms of significant factors like ground acceleration etc. was much less than experienced in Canterbury in February 2011 - you were a long way from the epicentre of Sunday midnight's quake in Wellington. We were much closer in Christchurch and the Sunday midnight quake was not strong enough to cause any significant damage here.
I'd think that the stadium should be built (and the ground beneath it prepared) to withstand much larger impact quakes.
A really major damaging quake is quite a different thing to what you experienced in Wellington this week.
Maybe that can be our tactic in the future when the All Whites are playing at the same time...saying our stadium is unsafe after an earthquake, flood, etc so we don't have to play without our international players...get the games postponed ??

You can never be 100% certain until a proper engineering inspection is done but the strength of the earthquake as it impacted Wellington in terms of significant factors like ground acceleration etc. was much less than experienced in Canterbury in February 2011 - you were a long way from the epicentre of Sunday midnight's quake in Wellington. We were much closer in Christchurch and the Sunday midnight quake was not strong enough to cause any significant damage here.
