I’ll be going, but I shall refuse to acknowledge any goals being scored, just in case there are any supporters from other teams that get offended by the superiority being displayed by the team that has breached the defences of the team trying really hard!!!

Imo he was the best striker on show today. The thought of a McCowatt/Davila/Fenton right side is rather exciting.

McCowatt was excellent when he came on, he really should be a starter already. I actually thought Sotirio had a pretty good outing, while Davila was largely anonymous aside from the goal, which was well-taken though. Steinman and Rufer were very good in the middle. Was surprised to see how advanced the full-backs played, may not be the wisest tactic against A-league opposition.

Overall comfortable win for the Nix, could have been one or two more, but at the same time I can't escape the feeling that it was an underwhelming performance, especially considering that the Nix have been playing regularly the last few weeks in preparation for the start of the league next week, while the TeeDubs have just started pre-season, their league starts in a month's time, and there's still same faces missing. I really thought the gap between the sides in the game would be a lot bigger than it was in reality.

To me it felt like we were still in second gear. Well I hope that is the case cuz if that was our best, we will be in trouble.

This. Most of our guys never broke out of a jog, and Taylor more or less walked the match. Looked very much like a 'tapering' performance from our guys.

I believe these are all of our pre-season results maybe a couple of scores slightly wrong (Wests one)

I know most of the fixtures were pretty easy but only conceding 8 goals does look very promising imo.

vs Team Wellington 2-0

vs Melbourne Victory 1-1

vs Western Sydney 1-1

vs Sydney FC 0-0

vs Wollongong Wolves 4-0

vs Brisbane Strikers 2-2

vs Wests 2-0

vs Kapti 3-0

vs Miralympic 6-2

vs Capital Select 3-0

vs Wairarapa 7-0

P: 11 GS: 31 GC: 8 GD: +23

Pretty good. Davila was fantastic, especially in the first half. McCowatt did really add something when he came on, hunger. I'm yet to be convinced on David Ball.

At the back Taylor was all class, as we expect I guess. Fenton looked good out wide, especially linking with Davila.

Nice meeting you too, LGM.

Overall the team seemed a bit too comfortable to retain possession, and a bit hesitant to shoot.

I thought there was some confusion between Fenton and Davila on the right - they both seemed to be trying to do the same thing.

Didn't think much of Piscopo - seems pretty similar to Leo Bertos with stepovers and such. He got on the ball but didn't create much.

Davila looked comfortable.

Walter Scott made a few mistakes in attack - getting towards the corner but losing the ball.

Everyone else looked pretty good.

Agree McCowatt should start ahead of Sotirio.

Feels like there is lot of potential to confuse the name "Davila" with "De Vere" - at least when you're talking in a kiwi accent!

Still doing short corners which seems a waste of time.

There were a couple of goalmouth scrambles where TeeDubs might have got a shot away if they'd been luckier.

I think TeeDubs only had 2 or 3 shots altogether.

Apologies if I've slagged off any Nix players unfairly.

Particularly in the second half the team went down a notch and seemed just happy to be in position.

Wasn't impressed with Piscopo but I haven't rated Scott from what I've seen so hopefully he'll get more opportunity when he has Cacace doing his freight train impression on the outside. The CAMs and FBs were really working as a double team with the CAM coming deep to receive the ball from the CBs.

McCowatt is no doubt class but drops a lot deeper which is what Ball seems to want to do. Lack of an out and out striker was pretty glaring. Hard to see any A-league CBs waking up in a cold sweat afraid of the Ball and Sotirio combo.

Also worth noting that you pronounce the 'L' in Davila so shouldn't be too difficult.

while the Tee Dubs may have only started pre season, the majority of their players are coming off the back of the winter season whether it be in Wellington or Australia so don't think them being in "pre-season" can really be used as an excuse - its more of a worry for TW's than the Nix . Nix looked comfortable but nothing special, which is what you expect from a pre season game.

I have said before and will say again McCowatt is the one to watch

How did Piscopo go?

Maybe I had too higher expectations of him going into today but I wasn't overly impressed. He wasn't bad but he wasn't 100k transfer fee good. Looked a bit daft when he tries the step overs only to turn the ball over straight away. If we do end up signing Lewis before the transfer window closes, I think Lewis would be ahead of him right now.

Which sort of makes sense right? As far as I can tell we have a full squad and no injuries, which is fantastic. The last thing anyone wants is to get injured playing a friendly against low level opposition, 1 week out from the start of the competition.

I think overall the team looks tidy, but not spectacular. We've probably got enough quality in the side to grind out a few results and maybe worry a few more of the lower placed sides but it's not going to be pretty watching.

Can definitely see us struggling to score goals though. We just don't have enough presence up top and I'm not even talking in a physical manner. At some points it was almost like we were playing a 4-6 formation.

There were moments when we lifted our pace getting forwards, especially with Davila, and there was a lot of movement up front. Didn't totally gel, but maybe some potential. Can see Davila getting targeted, so how we manage around that will be important.  Rufer could have a monster season, because we probably need it.

If we play like we did for those quicker breaks in this game much more consistently (and produce) and with Cacace also, then we may be OK.  If we play at the pace we did for most of the game we'd be absolutely stuffed lols but it looks like that every preseason.

I felt I saw a few hints from Davilla, McCowatt, Piscopo in this game and Waine otherwise preseason, that when they go full noise we could be quite fun. Throw in Cacace and a bit of Rufer coming of age and scoring some goals and it could get interesting.  And if Fenton can get some aggressive form going as well. Main issue for me is Ball.  Just haven't seen enough from him yet for an import.  But early days and he could be a very good link and score a few.  Sign a decent extra striker and we shouldn't be too embarassing.

Like every one says , it all depends on how well we defend, given goals may be a worry, and the CBs not being a liability for pace, and injuries, but the Rufer, Steinman screen looks pretty good.  Albeit maybe could do with a bit more mongrel.  Who's going to put the stuff up a few strikers?  I was thinking with Steinman, Rufer,Taylor and Devere we have some big units, so it will be interesting if we can monster a few sides for a change.

I thought Devere looked more assured this game, maybe has looked rusty and clumsy before, but there wasn't much pressure too often. Taylor looks like a big grinning twenty year old again.

Looking forward to this season.  So many young players with potential.  Davila.  A new system.  Possibly, possibly, possibly a hard side to break down. Wanting to see Rufer really come of age and a few more kiwis shine.

I thought Taylor was disappointingly well behaved for the free kicks in this game. Maybe the weight of the captain's arm band holding him back, or just saving it for the season proper?

Jason Pine said for what it’s worth the behind closed doors pre-season game between WPX and MVC a couple of weeks ago ended 1-1. Reno Piscopo scored for the Nix (top corner apparently) and Victory’s goal was a penalty.
