Davila should light the league up and carry us to top 6 (8 goal season from him)- provided Marinovic and Ball do mostly good (they are the biggest question marks for me). McCowatt and Cacace to be the best of the young guns. Waine/Elliot probably not ready to have too much impact (both will still play decent in limited minutes) at A-League level but I would love to be proved wrong. Final sticking point is if our center backs have good understanding and communication between themselves or just sh*t the bed every few games and cost us crucial points as I am thinking might happen. Rufer and Steinmann will impress from day one. Fenton might not have as much joy in the new formation but should still be decent. As some before me have said - Sail could well be our number one come seasons end and I really rate him. I have not watched any preseason games this year so could be off on these. Top scorer will be Davila with 8 and then 3 or 4 players with 5/6 goals. Hope Ball knocks in 10 though and I think a goal in the first game will go a longggg way for him.

Right back a worry for me

Takasaki/Mystery Striker - 10 goals

Davila - 6 goals

Ball - 6 goals

McCowatt - 5 goals

Piscopo - 3 goals

any of Devlin/Waine/Sotirio/Rufer/Steinmann - 4 goals

any of Cacace/DeVere/Taylor/Fenton - 4 goals

that gets us to 38 and I don't think any of those numbers look outrageous. There is scope for Piscopo, McCowatt and Waine getting many more than that too. Ball could also end up doing better. With how good Fenton and Libby are going forward, and how dangerous both Taylor and DeVere are from set pieces the defenders could well score more than that too (Sydney had some fantastic set pieces last year which they scored from, and all were masterminded by Uffie). I might be in the optimistic minority, but I think we have the cattle to achieve 40 goals.

That's a lot riding on Mystery striker

8th well ahead of Jest, CCM and WU.

Not enough goals to move up the table but solid in the other areas.

I also predict the kids to be alright.

This is my bold(er) prediction.

I predict Taylor and De Vere to not finish the season as the preferred CB pairing. TAHW will replace one of them due to a long term injury, or form/speed/ability (probably De Vere in that case). Or alternatively we go to 3 at the back due to the aforementioned speed issues.

Sydney Morning Herald have done a piece on their predictions for the season. No surprises they have us in 11th, Michael Lynch has always been in the Nix out journo brigade (as has his son Joey on DFS). Tried to see what the Daily Telegraph and the Herald Sun have in terms of predictions but they've got a paywall. I don't suppose anyone on here regularly pays money to read the Herald Sun's dribble?

Re Michael Lynch, not absolutely true. In fact he was pretty positive about the Nix for the first 3 or 4 years. Even Crazy Craig Foster was on the Nix bandwagon in those heady early days.

Really looking forward to seeing all our Kiwi guys on the pitch this season but with a brand new coach and that lack of squad depth Lynch's prediction is probably not so unrealistic. I'll be happy if we are at least somewhere in the mix for a finals spot with a few rounds to go just to keep the season interesting.

I didn't really get into following the Aussie football media until about 3 or 4 years ago so I just assumed Lynch had always been Nix out. Seems that all of them say they were pro Nix at the beginning, but then once some of the more reputable guys change their stance the rest follow suit.

Well in his latest bit with the press he stated he wants to be the best LB in the league, so I'd imagine it'd be hard to do that from midfield.

No we have Hooper I'm expecting a little less direct play by us, and hopefully a bit more width and creativity.

Now that we have a good striker in hooper we should be good for goals and we have a good defense with taylor cacace fenton and devere, also we have players like stienmann and davilla who can control the midfield, so i think we should be getting top 4.

As much as I admire your confidence in the squad, we haven't got the depth or quality of the Melbourne teams to push for top five. That being said, with Hooper on board, I'm a lot more confident about sixth spot rn.

Now we have hooper we can hopefully score now because without him i dont think mccowatt and ball are enough goals for a team.

Of the people (and anyone else) who've ranked the teams 1-11, did anyone take the uneven number of games into account?

Have the FFA?

A full season of 3 rounds against every team should take 33 rounds, not 29.

The Nix (of course), and 6 other teams will play 26 matches, and 4 teams will play 27.

Does anyone know how the league are addressing this?

Everyone plays 26 games. Two full rounds, and the remaining games picked based on commercial sensitivities.

Hopefully this situation is only for 1 season - another stupid decision by the FFA - how does that make it a fair draw for all teams

Congrats Bevan, the best table prediction that was posted here. Tho Sancho might have a case to be crowned the real winner here.
