Phoenix Football Fund

Really ?????????

Surely there are better ways for a multimillion dollar company to raise funds!

Will the players & staff be paying any of their money for games that they lose?

Where is the incentive for anyone to donate to this?

My money will be going towards Fever Dreams.

I guess its a way for the fans to feel like they are part of the success. If you go a $1 a game it isn't much really but if every member did it, then could raise a bit.

Club might be a multimillion company but to be honest the A-league isn't a sustainable league the way it is at the moment and you just have to look at troubles in the other clubs, we need to remember that the WelNix lose millions every year to keep the Nix alive yet they put it in anyway and have increased the opportunity for development in this country with Wellington United, WeeNix and the Football Schools.

Surely being a season ticket holder, wearing the merchandise & seeing the team win makes you feel part of the success?

Mmmm i thought being a club member should give us some of those things. So they are looking for other ways of getting even more money out of those same people who have supported them so far. Because thats about the only people likely to take part in this, cant really see Joe Bloggs being interested. sorry not one of their good ideas. They want to raise money let the fans take part in ownership that might raise some.

In fact reading it again am a little insulted that they seem to have forgotten they have people who have brought season tickets and are club members already. Many of them having done so for a number of seasons.

Memory might be fading but pretty sure the figure wasnt millions that was mentioned at the fan night.

"The Wellington Phoenix Football Club invites you to join our family of players, coaches, officials, and corporate partners in personally contributing to the continued growth of our high performance football program."

So as a current (not to mention previous years) member, viewer, and buyer of merchandise the inference is I'm not currently part of the "family".

Be very careful Nix marketing peeps.

Hmmm not sure how to feel about this. Screams desperation to me. Doubt they will get much out of it and anything they do will be coming out of the pockets of those that already pledged hundreds of dollars to the club through memberships, merch, travel etc. In saying that will probably sign up but only out of pure adoration for this club.

The build up to the opening game of the season & OUR marketing team tell 3000+ of us, that we aren't part of the family yet!

I have purchased 5 season tickets this year, but unless I sponsor the club for $1 per win, I'm not part of the family!

You want us to invest but you can't even invest the time to proof-read the website?

...Phoenix Football Fund to engter the team change rooms...

If this is the first genius scheme from our new marketing bloke who has come from AFL the jury is still out on his work.

... but I'll tell you what.  You be top 2 in the league halfway through the season and convince me that more money will stop us failing in the 2nd half (like the last 2 seasons) and I might be keen.

For now that money is going to be saved to buy a Spikey which at least gives me something tangible for my investment in the club.

"The Phoenix Football Fund means you can support the team even if you can’t make it to a game."

Key to the whole thing IMO.  Members, Season ticket holders and individual game tickets are contributing, the club acknowledges this regularly. But to compete with SaidKnee on equal footing more Supporters are better.

Basically the online equivalent of having Dome sitting on Lambton Quay wrapped in a mangy blanket with an upturned baseball cap in front of him and a poorly spelled cardboard sign asking for money.

So can we expect a "Aren't We Family Too?" banner on Sunday?

By the way, I've signed up for it. I'm not offended by it, and I'm one of those marketer's wet dreams who will buy into shark like this. If it helps the Club in some way, then all good. If it doesn't take off, or we don't win a game all season, and they don't get the return they expected, c'est la vie. I'd like to think I can see both sides and can understand some of the angst though.

I don't really see how people are getting worked up.

I GUESS they could have added "season members to this sentence

But they did recognise those who go to games in the opening sentence.

It's not the greatest or most clever initiative in the world, generally people expect something more in return for their pledge than a very loose and vague promise to enter the changing rooms if we win the A league (how would that work if a large number pledge, or we are playing in Australia). But I don't understand the outrage about it.

I chuck it in the 'could do better' pile rather than the 'LETS RIP OUR SEASON TICKETS UP' pile others seem to be heading toward.

I don't have a problem with the general concept but the way it's been presented is a bit amateur. Not mentioning club memberships etc , and misspellings and grammatical errors  doesn't refect well on the club IMO. It makes the club look like its desperate for cash and doesn't appreciate its preexisting supporters who have already paid money to the club.

Think you fit in here, "Members, Season ticket holders and individual game tickets are contributing, the club acknowledges this regularly."

I have 6 foundation Season tickets and 3 memberships (Members) and I'm in no way upset by this. (only Me and Amy in Wgtn so take guests)

Whilst there may be merit in the concept, it's execution is poorly considered and amateur.

Which is ironic for NZ's "only" professional football club.

well I'm chucking in $1 per win. Would do $5 but I'm broke after purchasing season tickets and all other nix/YF related activities. Am sure others could do more. It all helps and I'm happy to have another way to contribute, even if it isn't the perfect initiative.

I also think this would be more effective if launched following, or alongside, a licence extension announcement.

Let's face it - you'll probably only be forking out $4-6 over the season.

I don't think there's much extra money to be milked by the Phoenix from season-ticket holders, club members, attending fans, sofa fans or the wider NZ population but a Supporters Scheme to buy a 'share' in the Phoenix is probably the best method, rather than this give-a-little approach.

Yeah, I like being a season ticket holder and its not a lot of money , but you do wonder why you bother when you see adult tickets on GrabOne for $10. Yeah I know its aisle 33 but we also now that that makes no difference to where anyone is actually going to sit.

This is something I could get behind.

If you got to own 0.00000000000001% (random guess number) per dollar spent then I'd be keen as punch, as even though you wouldn't make any money out of it, you would be able to be proud as punch that you own your little slice of the club.

It's kind of a clever way to get distance supporters behind the club and garner interest.  Give you a little reason to give a shark, and then you aren't donating money to watch them lose.

It does seem like a slap int he face when the club members aren't included in the family list "players, coaches, officials, and corporate partners" though.  but thats just sour grapes, if this helps the club stay alive then fudge it, more power to them.

I'll put $20 into the fund, it will be the money they gave me back for lowering the price for the Kids season ticket.

That is also my season prediction: 20 wins!

It is per win? $20 with 20 wins would cost you $400

To clarify. $1 x 20 wins.

I'm in Hamilton and try to make it down at least twice a year and always go to any Auckland game. Personally I ve always wanted to be more involved so I'm happy to do $5 per win. Maybe this is aimed at others more like myself rather than you fans at the coal face already making great contributions.
