Given its the first real rumour I've heard about a new (sort of) player coming for next season I figure it's time for a new thread. Anyway, here's Rollo reporting about a potential Brockie return

Unlikely at the moment considering we don't have a coach and our license hasn't been extended yet. God I would love to see him back though

Exactly, he may be looking for a new gig given the lack of game time but why would he come back here for a 1 year deal - unless it was a loan deal.

Nothing will be happening until we have a coach for next year anyway.

Maybe bringing Brockie back is a way to entice a new coach.

Bring back a classic scape goat so fans don't go after the Coach.

Lia will be next.

I'd take one of the Ole boys over him but he would add some good experience to the squad if we don't keep Sheridan.

I’d probably prefer Brockie to Sheridan. As wouldn’t really lose anything at the position and would free up a foreign spot.

No guarantee that Brockie would perform for the Nix if he came back. And Sheridan looks the real deal, but maybe not getting enough support from Rudan.  I really hope we can get a new coach in asap and have him make these calls, not NIx backroom staff.

i feel sheridan offers more than brockie, he reads the game better and holds the ball up well can also put in a good pass. i like brockie but not sure he would add a lot to the team. i could be wrong as i have been wrong before.  also not sure sheridan will hang around past this season anyhow unless he was going to get a lot more game time.

1. People have short memories, Brockie did not perform for us immediately prior to the end of his contract - why would he now?

2. Unless we have a new coach within 2 weeks and he signs Sheridan for next year - he is gone. He can't afford to hang around witjout a contract anywhere.

Would prefer a coach over any player first so they can build the team around the strike force they want and believe in.

To free up a foreign spot with a like for like replacement I would be happy if Watto would be given another crack but I think he's been burnt too many times.

Last time Watto was around him and Roy Krishna were both shafted by Darije Kalezic.

Brockie is good but I get the feeling he could end up with form being stalled like Nathan Burns unless we have a coach willing to build a team around him like what Rudan done with Roy.

Then its a question of if building a team around Brockie will equal success in the A-league?

Is this the final year of clayton lewis contract? him, rufer and singh in midfield could be a dynamite partnership

Clayton Lewis has another year I think, almost certainly in League 2. He's only had a couple of starts so has hardly set League 1 on fire.

Bringing Brockie back would not exactly symbolise a club that hopefully has some ambitions above where they've been for the last ten years or so.

Only player I would want to see return is probably Rojas. To be fair I'd probably take Ridenton and Barba back if they wanted to as well but can't see either parties wanting a reunion.

As a comparable example, Burns performed very well under Ernie but is a shadow of his former self now under Rudan. Some of that is due to personal form and fitness but also age. In contrast, Brockie was already slow and lazy in his last season for us and I'm not sure he'd fit into a formation built on speed and passing which is what Rudan implemented. This was a successful system for us and I'd like to see a coach able to continue that if possible. I would need to see a proof of Brockie being able to do that.

Iirc his Girlfriend is making a good go at her football TV career over there, so he might be reluctant to come back to NZ any time soon.

Been starting in recent weeks, and has been one of the better players in the team iirc. Think he'll want to take his chances over there and put his Euro passport to good use

A bigger question is with no coach for next season if Brockie rumours are true who the fark is making these sorts of decision because they need to stop thinking they no any bloody thing. If this is the sort of thing they are deciding hope they are nowhere near the choice of who the next coach will be.

Kosta will not be back here, his wife did not enjoy life in Wlg, Riddenton, well he ran away thinking that we will be cellar dwellers and he would be better off somewhere else, would he do that again??

As for Rojas, I would love to see him back at the Nix.

To be fair, the article states that these were "informal discussions". Ie, Brockie was back for Dura's testimonial, journo spotted him chatting to a few of his old club mates, and put 2 and 2 together and got 16. I don't think anyone at club is making these decisions. It's good old fashioned rumour, dressed up as an early negotiation.

judging by the number of girl friends, wife's and children whom are horrrified by the thought of living in Wellington (even kiwis) we should be targeting single players

Or players like Steven Taylor

For imports I think we should keep Mandi, Taylor, Sheridan (if we lose one of Williams or Krishna) Let go of Kopa and Kurto seems like he's gone. Freeing up potentially two spots which I'd like to see us sign an import more defensive midfielder like Reira and another defender.

We really should have signed Jack Henry-Sinclair for the problematic RWB position a month ago, now we're going into the final using either Williams (RW/ST), Kopa (LCB) or Lowry (RCB) given its unlikely Gulley will be used there.

Now the Teedubs OFC campaign is finished could Rudan pull the signing and send him to the game in Melbourne?

Would take Tuiloma in a heartbeat, but surely there's no way he's coming to us. I would actually prefer if he stayed in Portland for now. According to the latest earnings from the MLS though he's not on a big contract ($75k USD) so maybe if some cash was thrown his way then who knows?

Boxall (assuming you mean Michael) I would also take, no questions asked. He's on a healthy $270k USD a year though, and he's still only 30 so I'm guessing he's probably happy where he is for now. Brother Nikko might be a worthy look though if Viborg fail to get promotion in Denmark this season. I'd imagine he'd be a bit cheaper too.

Think we need to work from the front on this though, and go off the basis that if Krishna doesn't re-sign with us, then we need to throw some stupid money at someone that is as close to a like for like player. For me that would be Rojas. Whether he'd want to come back and have a crack, I don't know.

Just my thoughts anyway.

Collier would be an interesting option, depending on how realistic he thinks his chances are of making it in the MLS.

Mandi has really disappointed me in the last couple of games...  does not appear to be working hard enough IMO off the ball to get back and win possession.

Would keep Sheridan.

I think someone covered this on the last page, but if the club is even considering signing Brockie, we may as well just throw away our A-League license now. He was abysmal in his final season for us.

We could have sheridan and brockie up front. Two donkeys.

Do people remember how crap brockie was? he was terrible on the ball, would be 1 step forward and 10 steps back. Fudge it, bring back Bertos at right back.

Girlfriend/Wife did not like it here. Pretty sure she moved to Sydney quite a while before Roly left for WSW.

Can't believe they would let him go, unless he's got an offer from offshore or back in the Netherlands. Thought he was one of the better players in a WSW shirt this season.

Yes Brockie was poor in his last season here, but he scored for fun both before and after that.

I think he'd be a fine signing as a depth striker who is a leader to younger lads in the side. If he's getting significant minutes it wouldn't be worth it but I can't help but feel he'd be far more impactful than Smeltz was on his return.

Was tweeting with RR and apparently he was a back up for them if Castro didn't re-sign. Latest rumour is Sydney.

This is the point where a certain quantity of forumites jump in yelling HOW VERY DARE YOU Wellington is the perfect little city for families and children and anyone who doesn't want to live here needs their head read.

Wonder if Marinovic will have his contract extended in the UK?

While I'd love to see him or Gleeson here, Sail hasn't exactly disgraced himself or anything...

Or maybe the wives, partners or girlfriends see the Male totti in the stands and feel they have to leave because they may not be able to control themselves.

Solution we need uglier fans....or at least we should keep our tops on after 80mins...to many abs
