That crowd for the Newy game, my goodness. This is before my time as a Nix supporter, but I remember watching the Perth game from a hotel room in Perth. Always liked the Nix since that moment, caught the second half and the penalty shootout. Good stuff. The first final I had watched as a fan was the Melbourne City final, so, looking forward to what's to come from the Nix!

what an away turnout that was from us in sydney - shocking home crowd tho. was there any reason no sydney fans turned up?

Watching the 2010 games makes me realise how good the team we have now is. I don't know how many of the 2010 team would be starters in the current squad. Back then we had T Hearfield at RB for crying out loud! Ifill obviously would be a starter, maybe Leo instead of Sotirio, but that midfields 3 of Lia, Brown and Muscat I'm not sure any of them would beat Steinman or Devlin to a starting spot..

The skill and quality of the league has vastly improved in the last 10 years, and we have been a huge part of that.

Yet again Brown underrated took ages for us to replace him after he retired like others that have played for us he was for some reason never given the credit due apart from a few. Two very different teams and I would suggest some in todays team would really struggle to handle the physical nature of the 2010 team. That 2010 team was more than capable of playing some nice football and yes Hearfield didn't turn out to be the footballer many thought he would but it cant be denied that he turned in some good performances. If Devlin and Steinman can deliver the same level of performance for as long as Muscat gave us I will be happy to agree.

Given we started this season as we did its only a very short period of time this years team has shown us what they can do. Even then read the match day threads many of those performances were being criticized for not being as complete as some wanted. Yes potential wise this years team is ahead of others and has sadly been cut short.

Surprises me how quickly some seem prepared to under value  previous teams also not convinced the overall quality in todays league is so much better than in some previous years.

That was unsurprisingly his last of 3 appearances for them.  My word he was a limited player.

Hard to compare teams, but both squads suited the styles they played. Hard physical prowess was key to the 2010 side. Dura was a great leader at the back in those days. Love the footballing style of this years team, they are quality all round.

Siggie and Manny tenacious, and McKain not playing for that game, but also not one to mess with.

Had forgotten Brown had a hand in both goals- think I was a little pissed- only really remembered Ifill's strike.

We sent in great crosses- Daniel, Lockie, Leo and someone else sent in delivery that Hooper would have probably made more of.

Our current passing is 1000x more crisp.

That said some passing- Daniel to Ifill was amazing. We really didn't play through the midfield much. We haven't had a player to replace Daniel either!

Who would you have put Kosta on for?

Ricki encouraged this team to keep pressing and Daniel, Dadi, Caceres and Kosta on the bench is a lot of excitement.

Uffie at this stage would seem likely to be our best coach if he stays with us, but this was a team of winners.

Possibly this team was a more exciting watch than this years?

Daniels passing was superb, Leo might have had pace but his crossing was crap. Kept hitting the defenders. Was a great game with great atmosphere. The first time I took my shirt off for the lads and there it was on TV as I was bending over to pick up my coke drink. The shame :(

wouldn't mind some of the pundits/analysts putting some time weighing up strengths or weaknesses of different Nix teams, with excess graphics, comparisons etc. Be keen for a decent hardback book with articles, pictures and analysis, maybe for the first decade or whatever.

Ricki v Ernie v Rudan v Uffie

A real honest look at Kalezic time.

Surely that'd be a project worth getting a couple of journos together for?

Why was Westpac a fortress and then it wasn't? Are we less one footed now than we were? At what point timewise were we strongest in games coach v coach and why? IE scoring late, early, possession, territory etc.

A breakdown of some classic games, with interviews, graphics etc.

Breakdown of grounds, fan experience, away fans.  So many possible topics that could be covered.

oh man, just watched the last of the games this morning......firstly that crowd was average from Sydney. and the pitch looked horrid.

At 1-1 we were looking pretty good, VAR would have ruled their second goal out and may even have seen a yellow issued to Payne. We were good value to finish the half at 1-1. Their 3rd (second proper) was a decent piece of play and the 4th was just due to us pushing for an equaliser and defence being way too high. 3-2 was the fair result on the night, but had we had VAR in play things could have been so different.

They're also showing the first win and first home win as well I think. First win was away at Sydney FC. Is this where the Shirts Off tradition was invented?

Yes, then suggested  it became something we do every win. Were some friggen cold shirts off in the early days. One infamous game a few of us ended up sick as. Good days when there was much pre match singing and a packed out BB

Yeah that was the first ever home win against Perth. Half the zone ended up with various flus/colds/infections after it. I know I did.

Away against a Sydney FC team containing Mark Rudan and Ufuk Talay. Who would've thought that they would go on to coach the Phoenix. Also in Sydney team is their current coach Steve Corica and Perth Glory coach Tony Popovic.

bloody hell Broxham was playing in that game!

I guess in theory Old could still be playing for us. That is better than Giggsian though from Broxham tbh.

Great game. Schmeltz on fire in his debut. Aloisi puffed at 65. Brazilian stars playing in NZ.

From this game I didn't think Old and Cleberson were as bad as they'd become in Fever lore.

So excited. I was relatively new to NZ and football starved. Went to a few TeeDubs game before and had a massive man-crush on Raf (whom I saw in the stands the day of the game).

One day driving home I hear the Nix had signed a "Ferrante" - I thought it was MARCO Ferrante, a fairly decent Italian striker (to be fair Michael and Marco sounds quite similar, especially if you factor in how Kiwis pronounce Marco...).

I was very excited. Got a season pass straight away and hooked my wife to football in the process. Good times!

And that game was pretty awesome - the start of it all really!

I enjoyed that game last night.Couple of things stand out.

Cleberson was super bad. Won a tonne of headers and was throwing himself around a lot, but his positioning was terrible.  I wish we had Opta stats back then because his average position wouldn't have been anywhere near Dodd. Rush out of the line needlessly which caused huge gaps in behind. Should have been send off for a second yellow when he bought Allsopp down. Is he still living on the Kapiti Coast.

Ferrante also very poor. Don't think he made a successful pass.

Felipe made a difference when he came on. My memory of him is that was up and down that season, but then I see he played in Saudi Arabia so perhaps he was better than I remember. I'd completely forgotten that he signed for the Fury at one stage.

Mark Elrick was poor doing sideline commentators. Called Carlos Fernandos at one stage. Then he interviewed a Victory staff member without mentioning who he was.
