What is the management of the Phoenix thinking letting Fenton be available for an interview after the match considering the circumstances? His reaction to the handball call in the first instance was not appropriate, but then to let him speak to the media? Not cool at all.

Protect the player, don't let him be put in front of a firing squad with his emotions white hot.

had nothing to do with the club, Fenton was literally grabbed by Archie after the whistle had blown. No chance for media manager to intervene.

And seconds after he'd been discussing it with the ref.

As Fenton walks off you can see that Rufer is waiting for him, and likely trying to stop him talking to Archie.

Not the clubs fault. Entirely Fox Sports and their TV coverage fault with the stupid half time and full time interviews as players walk off the field.

I disagree, it's not Fox/Broadcasters role to protect players, it's to get content.  Any producer/interviewer not trying to get Fenton isn't doing their job.  If the club has a media manager pitch side they haven't done their duty, otherwise, it's on the senior players to intervene and make sure Louis isn't put in that spot by keeping him away.  If it's true Rufer did that and Louis still went there, it's on him (not that I care what he said, as he is completely right.)

The commentators said they were trying to get a Phoenix player to talk about the incident and they encouraged Archie to talk to Fenton. Not really sure how it could have been avoided unless someone sprinted out and shielded the players from the field. If that happened the A League would probably fine the Phoenix for not talking to Fox. One of those no win situations, not sure i could have restricted myself to only 3/4 F bombs had a mic ever been shoved in my face if i was in Fentons position.

Fox Sports definitely targeted Fenton to get content. Should we forward any fines onto them?

Pretty naive for a team of experienced and professional broadcasters and producers (Thompson excluded) to not expect the guy who was penalized unfairly to hold his tongue.

That will be exactly why they targeted him hoping for just what they got.

There is no way our media person would have had the ability to get to Fenton before the broadcasters could. They knew what they were doing and doing it for the sound bite.

Captain could have got to him immediately after the incident and at the full-time whistle. Other players couldve been in his ear too and helped him refocus. Remember responsibility, leadership and no excuses coming up a lot in recent times. Success in the a-league is often squad/ dressing room dynamics as much as talent. It goes beyond recruitment.

As some were saying too, he's gotta wear some of it- he's one of our senior pros.

Seriously? These guys are paid to wear their hearts on their sleeves (no one can question Louis giving his all for this club) and deliver results/performances for the club and the fan's in the stand and back at home.

He wouldn't be that irate if it was a deadset & obvious penalty and he has every right to feel aggrieved over it. Even after the final whistle he was agitated - All he's probably thinking is 'That penalty against me cost us the game...' That said I would rather see that outpouring of emotion and anger straight up, not because it's the professional way to go about it, but because it's raw and it get's people's attention. Think back to post match a few seasons back and Durante calling an Adelaide player a diving cheat - Well he didn't swear so you probably don't recall that...

And if your worried about a few F bombs being dropped on live TV by a player in the heat of the moment, that's nothing compared to what was being shouted in my living room after it happened.

As for the pitch side interviews that they do, not a fan of them, and it does leave it open to targeting players involved in contentious moments. My disdain for these interviews/snippets & player interactions is still superseded by my loathing of the whole VAR setup...

Rufer was moving towards him as soon as he saw the interview, but it was such a short one liner that no one could have stopped it once it had started. Fenton said fudge - big whoop. Was at directed at anyone - nope, was it directly related to a fudgeed up situation where the player feels robber - yep, was fenton targeted by Archie and the studio crew, knowing full well he was upset - yep

Also, as people pointed out, there is one media manager - and how many players, coaching staff, officials?

How do we know the media manager wasn't trying to prevent someone else, eg Marinovic (who mouthed off at the ref rather vocally at full time) to talk to the media?

The only thing the club could do is to do more media training (they already do) to teach the players how to behave in similar situations.

Also, I think this is getting blown out of proportions. How often do we hear players swearing on the touchline thanks to the pitch side mics? How many people swear loudly at the stadium? Fenton dropped two F-bombs, the earth is still rotating on its axis and around the sun...

Dome said in an interview that Louis was just coming off the pitch when someone threw a microphone in his face.

Seems like it happened so quickly they didn't have a chance to manage it.

He also said that while they don't condone the language part of the drive this year has been to get access to players and what Louis said is better than bland comment that you normally get.

Dome gets a lot of criticism on this site, but I thought his response to this incident was perfect.  Said he didn't condone the language, but other than that he fully backed Fenton.

Even if they still stand by the terrible penalty call. Still for the life of me can't see it!

At least they didn't go the extra step and rub salt in the proverbial wound and fine the lad.

That's what I meant. I don't know what else they could do at this stage. It's disgraceful they haven't admitted any responsibility with what happened, but I don't think the incident was severe enough to warrant voiding the result or replaying the match.

The media manager never travels with the team.

They're likely thinking they'd like to have said it themselves and that it's great he got away with it.
