Thing is rather than being a finish to the season its more likely to be just a short   season. Doubt many of the teams are going to look like they did before the break. Going to be more of a case  who can get themselves in the best shape with the troops they have.

Lets hope we can sign Roy as a Hooper replacement and that Davilla wants to and can get back from Mexico. Wonder what border restrictions will be in place by kick off time.

Wonder what venues will be available to them

Great news. Sounds like whole tricky issue of player's contracts expiring end of May, still needs to be worked through.

Could be that a few NPL/Handy Prem guys get a short term contract - esp if some Visa players stuck overseas can't/don't want to return. If I was Clayton Lewis I'd be keeping myself fit for example. Won't be easy for Davila to return from Meckeco

Will this benefit teams like us, the Smurfs and the LOLry who have 7 games to play, or teams like Citeh who're almost done? I'd suspect the latter

Depends on the state of all the teams I guess. The top teams and us have been paying their players. I wonder how it will affect Roar who's one of the competitors for a top 4 finish with Fowler in the UK. Although, having a home final doesn't matter much - if we don't achieve the top 2 then it doesn't matter too much where in the top 6 we finish.

given our game in hand 2nd spot is very possible. Home finals are not gonna happen and it's likely everything will be played without fans.

No-one really knows what the teams are going to look like in August. The situation with contracts ending on 31 May is still very much unresolved, and how that gets sorted out will have a large bearing on the teams that the clubs will be able to put out.

Wellington Phoenix general manager David Dome says that the Nix are expecting a full contingent back in action following the A-League's resumption.

Wellington have one of the largest off-contracted contingents in the A-League, with eight players set to see their Phoenix contracts expire at the end of this month.

A player exodus, particularly involving the side's strong foreign presence, could spell disaster for the Kiwi club who were painstakingly close to registering their best ever A-League points total before the sports shutdown.

However, Dome believes not much will change.

"It will be largely the same for Wellington, given the number of players we have contracted," Dome has told Newshub.

"For us, it will just be a case of extending those contracts, but we have to understand the financials around that first.

"There are also some conversations [coach Ufuk Talay] needs to have with players about which ones he wants to keep for next season."

The A-League's future itself appears less certain, with a start date still awaiting and pressure over Fox Sports' future broadcasting the competition.

"The difference with us is that we'd already completed 80% of our season," Dome said.

"To be absolutely honest with you, we were waiting on what the drivers out of Australia were, especially with the broadcaster.

"They were obviously working through their own process for those codes and the A-League was looking at what the possible end of the season may look like.

"What gives me the most confidence is our players, they are chomping at the bit to get back into it.

"Steven Taylor is a magnificent leader of this team and I'm convinced he will lead the team back to Australia with all guns blazing."

I don't understand why the A-League is waiting until August to resume when the NRL resumes May 28.

While caution is warrented, this seems overly cautious.

The German Bundesliga resumes this weekend.

A NZ Super Rugby comp debuts June 13 with training starting this week.

All community sports are permitted in NZ from this Thursday.provided that contact tracing/health & safety compliance is assured.

Inter-club friendlies are even permitted as part of pre-season preparation for NZ domestic football sides.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12331100

If the Nix flew to Australia before the end of this month and went into two weeks of quarantine (training is permitted in quarantine as the Warriors are doing currently), then another few weeks training, the A-League could plausibly recommence by the end of June.

Dome has said that all the players remain committed, some contracts expiring at the end of May or not.

Few Nix players are not currently in NZ or Australia, so the majority of the squad is available immediately.

Must be a similar situation for other A-League clubs.

Don't really think its an issue given how long there is left of the season to play . Frankly I would much rather wait till we can hopefully assemble our team. Lets not kid ourselves we are not going to be the same threat if we cant get Davilla back. Would also think there could be some issues with ground availability with the other codes back.

Think there is work to be done on contracts think we only have 16 contracted at the moment sure that's what Domey said. Didn't some of the other teams stand their complete roster down.

Would rather they get things right than rush things through.

Maybe because of the reliance of the A-League on foreign players and coaches it takes more time to get teams back together than the NRL? I know Hooper and Davilla are overseas and, as you say, there's no reason to think other teams are different. We know that Fowler is back in the UK and Adelaide doesn't even have a coach right now.

It makes much more sense to finish the end of last season as part of preparation of the new season.

Normally training recommences in July. So playing in August makes sense.Players retain fitness ,prepare for FFA Cup and then the new season starts.

Unwanted players off contract will be cut, allowing new players to come in.All of which requires some time to bed down.

The point is when we get up and going, we keep going. This season will be finished and then four weeks later the new season starts

Bulls FC could turn up in August to stop the bye with friendly games.

Not so sure new season is going to kick off 4 weeks after the completion from some of the stuff I have seen. I have seen talk of a later start being a possibility apparently no decision on that has been made yet. Off season certainly wont be as long thank Christ.

I just hope that the FFA are cooking up some concrete plans right now and locking-in ground hire for specific dates before NRL, AFL & Union have snapped all the grounds.

To be honest, by August I will have lost interest in the completion of the season.

It will be a five month gap by then since the league was suspended in March.

It will feel more like a pre-season comp for next season.

Especially without the home-and-away factor and the completion within one month or whatever.

Also there won't be much live sport on TV in June or July and public interest in watching the A-League will be greater - even internationally. It would be broadcast internationally to fill the gaping holes in sports schedules.

The A-League is already broadcast live every week on BT Sports in the UK.

If they recommence at the end of June or early July, all clubs are in the same boat regarding player availability and will be able to bring in new players if necessary to fill holes in their squads.

Are Hooper and Davila the only Nix players currently outside of Australasia?

From the "How Good is Ulises Davila" thread, Nix supporter Andy Penfold in Peru on how to get him back:

Mainland FC wrote:

Although it is a longer trip he could fly from Mexico with Latam via Santiago to Auckland, avoiding the US altogether.

coochiee

Maybe he could but flight options within Latin America are also currently very limited. I’m in Peru, and Lima Airport is shutdown.

Santiago Airport I understand is still operating, but think the Mexico border is currently closed.

Though yeah by July will definitely be a few more flights happening, and some borders opening up.

If you use time line.

May/June:

Negotiate contract Renewals for 2020/21 with contracts ending 2020. Then extensions for player contracts ending May for 2019/20 finish.

Start assembling squad.

July:

Get players back together.  4 weeks training

August:

Win The League n Finals

It works well
