Yea midfield should be pretty well covered you would think.

As a squad we seemed pretty injury free for much of the season (no long terms injuries I recall apart from the Griff). This probably contributed to lack of game time for Rufer, Riddenton, 50 Shades, Appiah, JBS, Doyle which is a bit of a shame as I would liked to have seen some of them kick on a bit more this season. I also wonder whether Ernie's apparent leaning towards tried and trusted in the final run-in (Muscat, Lia) curbed opportunities for Next Gen, to our detriment. Gotta love hindsight. With all the imminent transfer speculation, I'd be interested in Ernie's thoughts (Final Pod?) on the matter of giving Next Gen game time. My transfer speculation is a wish: that Chris Wood is sick and tired of being loaned out all over the place, homesick and has fallen in love with a lass from the windy city!

Based on what? If he doesn't want out of his contract why would we want to release him?

Apparently clubs have been sniffing around for a while. If Nix get a decent offer, take it I say.

And spend it on what? Have you heard a certain saying about the relative value of birds, in the hand and in the bush?

Taller and stronger in the air and on the ball than any of our current attackers, but could fit in the current system as well

I looked at Ibini when he was CCM (3 years ago?) and thought he would be worth a sniff. Now I don't feel that way. Same as Kennedy. I don't think he offers anything except offside repetition drills.

Or, much more likely: Burns was marked out of the game by opposition coaches and there wasn't a plan B (without Nutpuncher). Now's the time to organise a proper Plan B.

See you can contribute good points. This is one of them.

I think that as much as our football was nice to watch and it worked for the majority of the season, teams did stop us playing that way in the back half of the season and our style does not work against negative teams that bus park. I think about us v Brisbane at Dunedin where we parked it for 80 mins. Eventually, people figured out that if you locked it up, you could stop Brisbane.

The key for Ernie is to keep the focus on the main style cause it works. He is also generally viewed as being good in game at adjusting the tactics. What I would like to do is in further advancement of the team, is to see him a genuine plan B for when teams lock us up. What the plan B is, I don't know. I don't think its hoofing aerial balls into the box Ricki style though so would be interested in what Ernie thinks, and others think that an alternative playing style would be for when teams bus park cause thats the style we struggle to play against.

Yeah I think Ernie got this one badly wrong. It worked in one game against one team that were ordinary. WE also had a couple of set pieces go in on 2 occasions too.....

To be fair to Fenton, (and I think someone else made this point) he has turned up and done as he is told every week. I think he has started to make the RB position his own where I could see Manny on the bench next year if we find a LB that will do a job better than Manny and whatever Doyle was not doing right. I think its now time for Ernie to really say to Fenton 'yes we see you as a RB'. I am sure he has said that but then don't fudge with the kid and move him up field for a couple of games. Its the wrong message and didn't work. In Fentons favour as well, its not like he has had time playing back in the midfield.

Agreed, but needs to work on one-on-one defence a LOT in the off-season.

Was interesting to see them make a switch to Siggy and Riera staying back for the corners this week (as opposed to Fenton & Riera), in a clear reaction to the Ibini goal last week.

I think Ernie did that because Fenton is quite good on attacking. I think one of our last goals scored was his beating his man to the by-line and delivering a ball. He's done that several times. Did it last night. And then he produced the drive that had Kenny score against CCM.

I don't think we should ignore that possibility in Fenton's game. But clearly it wasn't quite working.... And some of his good attacking has been from left back too, including that assist. I would like to see Fenton have a break out season, but I don't think he has to lose his utility possibilities, just that he has to either be better supported or improve at them.

I wouldn't mind seeing him further up the field...

But can that happen? It seems we are losing: Boyd, Hicks, JBS who would be earning the minimum. Griffiths was an injury replacement so wouldn't be on that much. Ibini is almost certainly worth more than Cunningham and Georgievski is probably worth more than Boxall. I don't see where the money is coming from.

Griffiths was the Brockie replacement, methinks.  So there should be money from Cunningham and Brocks/Grif for two senior signings.  Then you have Hicks/JBS/Boyd to replace, as far as we know/understand.  Then the uncertains with Burns and Boxall, but both possibly still here.

Things would be very interesting if Lia and Manny did not have another year.

Doesn't really make sense does it? Very unlikely to find that sort of player who fits our system, and an alternative attacking option really doesn't need to be going long or swinging in crosses.

Wynne had those trials over in the UK, would think he will pick up a deal over there. Not sure Howieson is what Ernie has said he is going to look for.

We have 17 players on the books for next season atm, so 6 spots (1 visa) to fill. People on here have said Blake & Rogerson have been offered deals, so 4 spots to fill. We need 2-3 quality players if we are to compete, hope Ernie can find us them.

Pffft... reality. I prefer to live in fantasy-land thanks.

Maybe we could just offer them a minimum contract but tell them about the wonderful lifestyle that they'll never want to leave (winky emoticon).
