That was one thing I really liked about the recent World Cup: as soon as time added on was up the whistle was blown, no matter what the state of play. None of this 'keep on playing until the ball goes out' stuff that we get in the A League.

It's your typical early season game. They are generally pretty ho hum for the first 3-4 weeks before the teams start to gel. Unfortunately we will be no different on Sunday.

Just iriitates me in a grumpy old man way that A League refs let the game go on and on and on past the allotted extra minutes. I think I've got a chip on my shoulder about this from the game when Ben Williams(?) played an extra 30 seconds past 2 minutes added time allowing Australia to score a last gasp winner against the All Whites. Man the coffee table took a pounding that day!

I agree it sucks when they keep playing due to what is happening in the game. They often keep playing to let a corner happen etc when it should be blown up full time, tough luck.
But if it's constantly getting blown up 'on the dot' of the minute ticking over, that's probably not the right time to blow it either,

Yeah fudge I remembered being absolutely furious at that, and Nelsen giving him an earful after. Couple of ridiculous straight reds not given too.

Craig Goodwin is one of those slappable, yet highly dangerous players who you always feel could pull out something special any second. Really hoping Nichols can be this player for us this season.
Of course it's always about that word 'hope' with the Nix!

Galloway the best player according to sofascore... I liked Halloran and Goodwin up front too.
Elsey got a good rating but looked like a potential weakness to me - lots of good strong defensive work, but some bad unforced errors, same in the FFA cup.
Izzo's feet not great.
Adelaide marked Ninkovic closely, probably a good idea.
Sydney seemed to lack spirit; Adelaide wanted it more. Scrappy game, unpleasant to watch.
No Toivonen for the Victory, other than that its pretty much their strongest line up.
Not the greatest start to the new season, that game but early days and all that. Adelaide looked stronger defensively but didn't really offer much finishing wise. Sydney were shark for 75 minutes but looked like they were getting into their groove by the end of the match and Adelaide wouldn't have wanted to play another 10 minutes after that good defensively pressing tired them out.
Melbourne derby should be good tonight.
