Having it not count toward their cap is also unfair.
Either action encourages clubs to take stupid chances on players, then having there be no consequences when it all goes predictably wrong.

It is a Croatian name, and to him your name is probably strange.

They take a risk and sign an injured player without insurance (presumably they knew the risks involved with that), they then sack him because of hsi injury, then ask the governing body to rectify their mistake by ignoring the deal, and then sack his old man the coach for good measure - you do have to have sympathy for the Culinas because I don't actually understand what they have done wrong.
They could have easily tried to keep the seriousness of the injury undercover.

But if the club couldn't get insurance on it then surely they knew the risk they were taking.  That's what a medical is for anyway.

Plus, wouldn't it be odd for a coach to sign a player on $1m a season he knew was injured, even if it was his son?  Surely he'd much rather sign someone who was fit and could help him be succesful - what would Branko have to gain from hiding the injury?

So why exactly did Branko get the axe? I've looked on the net and there is only 1 story I have found that was basically around him being involved with the signing of his boy but not being fully fit.

Surely if this was the deal, there would be a bit more story to it?

It's funny isn't it, the players voluntarily agree to cap their own wages but coaches can be paid anything

It is set for a dispute in this arena

"Football Federation Australia has wiped its hands of any direct involvement in the Culina dispute, confirming on Wednesday it had no authority to set aside a player contract as the Jets had asked it to do. The matter is now set to go to the National Dispute Resolution Chamber, which makes binding decisions over contract disputes between clubs and players."

From the SMH:
IN OFF THE POST

Branko and Jason Culina have a tendency to polarise opinion, but it's hard to find anyone who sides with the manner of their demise. Football Federation Australia officials won't go on the record, but to say they're shaking their head at Nathan Tinkler's axe-swinging is an understatement. Players and coaches at other clubs are even more astonished. The consensus is this is the ugliest, nastiest sacking in memory. Tinkler's stock in the business world is at an all-time high, but his stock in the football world just hit a record low.

My thoughts:
a) if the extent of Jason's injury wasn't fully disclosed, then the Jets have a case
b) otherwise, I don't see why FFA should step in and help the Jets just because they went and threw a whole pile of cash out the window.
If they're really trying to make the league sustainable the last thing we need is for them to bail clubs out when they make silly mistakes - especially if they're rich clubs - or rather clubs owned by rich people!
Like it's been said above, I feel sorry for Culina cause it sounds like he really hurt himself, but don't really care about Brank. Don't like the guy and at the end of the day that's what happens to coaches all the time - they get sacked. In the Seria A this year 2 coaches lost their job before a ball was kicked. So Branko suck it up

Only one week into the A-League season, the Newcastle Jets have today reached 10,000 Members, a target that was set earlier in the year.

Since first launching the 2010/11 Membership campaign, the Jets have been thrilled with the response from the community in making Membership a priority.

We have been delighted with the success of our Membership campaign, CEO Robbie Middleby said.

To have the second highest Membership count across the A-League is a huge achievement for our Club.

People still wanting to secure a Jets Membership should not worry as Membership packages are still available with access to the remaining 12 home games.

Thank you to everyone who has gotten behind the team by purchasing a Membership package, Middleby added.

Membership is the best way to support our Club I hope we will continue to see our Membership count climb in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to them  Massive achievement, especially considering the recent Culina drama.
