From a purely selfish view, this is potentially very good for the Nix and NZ football. With an independently run A League a very slim chance that they would want to oust the Nix for the same reasons the FFA put forward. Additionally, a good chance of expansion that would be large enough [whether just by an expanded A League or a 2nd division] to have a 2nd NZ team enetered.

Most comments are that the private club owner are just after the money and the 2 rouge states just want their old NSL teams in the A-League.

I see it as trying to get the main income earners a say in how the money is spent on football and don't think Star Wars is the answer.

Pretty much this. Nix will be happy if it leads to an independent A-League. More security and probably more money.

Sense from former Soccer Australia Boss

"But no reasonable person would say that FFA can permanently have so little representation and democracy and turn over the directors without there being genuine involvement and voting by the real stakeholders of the game: the federation and the A-League clubs."

So, with the FFA failing to get the votes it needed this week, it seems certain now that FIFA will step in and suspend the FFA, appointing  a FIFA "normalisation committee" to run football in Australia for several months until the normalisation committee eventually appoints a new FFA board.

http://www.news.com.au/sport/football/what-the-hell-is-really-going-on-at-ffa/news-story/bc01aaf80f16bf6741873acb82d4a167

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/world-game/99422170/fifa-set-to-take-over-australian-football-after-push-for-a-new-congress-fails

FFA chairman Steven Lowy has been threatening legal action against FIFA if this happens.

Legal action would simply prolong the governance vacuum and possibly have consequences like Australia being kicked out of the World Cup and all FIFA competitions indefinitely. There have been suggestions that Aussie sports minister Steve Hunt has attempted to interfere in the FFA AGM this week by making threats about funding etc. and if FIFA find this to have been true, Australia will immediately be suspended from all FIFA competitions.

FIFA are always going to win in a situation like this.

So the question relevant to the Phoenix is, will a FIFA normalisation committee and the new FFA board appointed by them be good for the Phoenix?

Will  they look more positively on increased A-League representation on the FFA board and allow an A-League run by the A-League clubs?

Or will the new FFA continue in the same direction as before regarding the A-League?

STEVEN Lowy and his FFA board have been left to sweat on their potential dismissal, with FIFA yet to make a decision about whether it would seize control of the game in Australia.

http://www.news.com.au/sport/football/fifa-is-yet-...

(I found this bit interesting...)

'More than four months ago, Lowy shut down joint talks on the matter in retaliation to the clubs’ threats of legal action seeking to force FFA to reveal its finances.

But on Monday, after learning of a joint 300-page document compiled by the clubs and the players’ union containing their extensive draft for an independent and expanded A-League, Lowy wrote to the clubs requesting “discussions to commence as soon as possible and for the previously established working group to reconvene”.'

Craig Foster Review

Lowy View

This could go pear shaped for the NIX if AFC/FIFA  are persuaded the improve congress narrowly beaten, on a 7 out of 10 vote, is OK. (not reaching current 75% requirement)

The APFCA also condemned an earlier statement released by FFA in which Lowy said: "FIFA's ruling gives all of us a chance to take a fresh look at how the congress can best represent the Australian football community, with the direct involvement of FIFA and AFC officials in that process.

"In a wider sense, it will enable all Australian stakeholders to work together on a shared vision for our game at every level."

But a dismissive APFCA, which has joined forces with the PFA, and the Victoria and NSW State Federations to reject Lowy's version of reform, said it was "surprised and disappointed by the FFA Press statement issued today on this matter.

"Its misleading nature and disconnect from the information clearly communicated by the FIFA Deputy Secretary General in his correspondence, is indicative of the approach the FFA board and senior management has exhibited consistently with regard to the Congress Reform matter."

Slowy and Gallops 75% is pure corporate bullshark. It would represent maybe 20% of the stakeholder participants. FFA #gerrymander

They may well have the Disney W-League next year depending on how long Westfield signed on as sponsors (Lowy Cluase)

true, they could also have the Amazon W-League or any other company that decides to sponsor them it's how football works - if the Team Wellington "award winning BBQ" made decent money they could sponsor them too! :-)

The comment was in no way was aimed at belittling the W-League but more along the link between Westfield sponsorship and the FFA battle.
