CEO michael petrillo departs. He's overseen most of what is good about Adelaide for the last 10 years in DOF and CEO roles. Massive shock.

Tough for Adelaide with all those injuries. I guess they will be relying on a late season run again.

Adelaide United would like to make the following statement.

After the game last night a number of fans saw fit to express their views as to the team’s performance and the “lack of” investment this season in the Adelaide United playing squad.

Putting aside the totally inappropriate language used and directed to AUFC Board Members and family of our coaching staff, which will be dealt with, the Club believes it is important to correct the falsities in the minds of some fans regarding player spend this season.

The Club has spent 100 per cent of the Hyundai A-League’s salary cap and we have utilised our home-grown player allocation and marquee funds.

Our recruitment and retention decisions have not been made by a sole individual. The Club’s Football Sub-Committee, which includes owners, senior management, and all members of the coaching staff, have been aligned through this process.

We equally share the burden of our successes and failures.

The entire football community in South Australia has benefitted from the investment we have made in Hyundai A-League, Women's Football, and Youth Development. This is without mentioning the infrastructure costs associated with the setting up of the Playford Training Facility and the soon to be opened Northern Football Building at Elizabeth.

In addition to this, our January transfer window recruitment plan, which we are already implementing, has been in place since the start of the season. We are working feverishly to secure the further players we acknowledge are required to return the Club to its rightful position on the ladder.

We anticipate making positive announcements in this regard during the course of the transfer period which closes Saturday, 4 February.

Salmon & Ghost have made two comments in a good, clear and rational way imo. The Claws also made a fair comment and this is on the first page.

SUPERSTAR Gabriel Batistuta has been linked to Adelaide United’s coaching job.

As the club is seemingly running out of patience with Reds boss Guillermo Amor procrastinating about his future Batistuta, 48, is the second big name name to flag interest in days.

Amor’s Spanish international team-mate at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and EURO 96 Jose Molina exclusively confirmed to The Advertiser last weekend he is keen on coaching in Australia.

A-LEAGUE champion Adelaide United owes players three months unpaid superannuation and risks possible sanctions, including losing points, if it does not settle its debt.

The Advertiser can reveal the club has notified the Football Federation Australia of the outstanding entitlements covering October through December last year and which should have been paid by the end of January.

It is understood the debt is about $80,000, based on the club’s salary cap of $2.6 million.

ADELAIDE United chairman Greg Griffin confirmed the Reds are closing in on a European coach after negotiations with superstar Gabriel Batistuta became complicated.

Griffin is hoping the new Reds boss will agree to terms before the Socceroos host Saudi Arabia at Adelaide Oval for a FIFA World Cup qualifier at Adelaide Oval on June 8.

Griffin revealed Batistuta, the Argentine and Fiorentina legend who was in line for an assistant coaching role for Argentina’s national team in 2011 alongside Sergio Batista had hand-picked two-well credentialed coaches for his first senior coaching role.

But one of the proposed five-star coaches didn’t want to leave his current club which is on the verge of wining the title in a South American league.

“It wasn’t about the money, it was about the team he (Batistuta) was assembling and the timing,’’ Griffin said.

“That team had first rate experience but for a number of reasons different members of that team became unavailable.

“But it was all done in an incredibly professional and friendly way.

“But we have to moved on.”

With Adelaide’s most successful coach Guillermo Amor choosing to leave the club at the end of his two-year tenure Griffin said the Barcelona legend was given the first option to sign a new contract before the former Spanish international made the call to return home.

Amor left Adelaide about 10 days ago, flying beneath the radar three years after he shocked the football world by becoming United’s technical director, ending his long association with Barcelona’s La Masia (the club’s youth headquarters).

“We told Guillermo the job was his, but we just couldn’t be left standing without any options,’’ Griffin said.

“So we did talk to Batistuta but a very important component of that team chose to remain where he was.

“Batistuta wasn’t going to come to Adelaide without having serious people with him and his No. 1 choice, the very experienced coaching element is doing too well.

“It was a South American dream team.”

Adelaide’s proposed new boss has according to European sources coached at the top level in Germany in the Bundesliga which is rated by UEFA as the second best league in Europe. He will be expected to arrive in Adelaide next month.

The contracted Reds players are tipped to return to preseason training on June 26, about a month out from United’s first official match of the season — an FFA Cup match.

MARCO Kurz is the man Adelaide United has been craving for in a bid to secure a first class coach from Europe’s top five leagues but the club won’t know until the weekend.

Kurz, 48, left Adelaide on Monday night and returned to Munich after four days in SA telling club officials he will give them an answer by Friday night.

Shouldn't judge coaches by their records but looks like he's won 5 games in the last 5 years.
