About time we started a forum for this league.  Reasonable start to the season, after getting a reprive from relegation.  With a win on the road first up against Petone away (which took us a long time last year to get a win on the road), a draw against Wainui, a loss against University, a draw against Marist, and a draw yesterday, we are sitting 5th.  Good to see the Wairarapa teams doing well, with Wairarapa United setting the pace at the top and White Swan Greytown sitting in 4th.  Some interesting results are coming in especially the Warfies bouncing back form a 9-4 loss to Greytown, to sit in 3rd.  University are a good outfit, and are chasing Wairarapa United hard at the top. We have them next week at home, and hopefully should come away with the spoils.

Cap 3 is a hard grade to gauge this year. Due to a proliferation of second and third teams results could vary from week to week as players move between sides. Wainui are easily one of the weakest teams and should go straight back down, Wairarapa look sharp and should seal one promotion spot, University are reasonable but will suffer from the usual issues presented by Uni holidays and player movement.

Good effort getting a thread started for Cap 3!

Yeah we got off to a shocking start against Greytown but have bounced back nicely and won the last 3 scoring 13 and only conceding two.  Played the Armanis at the weekend and it was a pretty close game against a well organised side!  I had a shocker but toe-poked in the third so I count that as a succesful day!

Masterton away this week to look forward to.

Things have defintely improved for us (Karori Cougars) after I missed the first game. Felt sorry for the stand in keeper after hearing the scoreline. Cougars unbeaten in 4 which is a record for the team and now on the charge for promotion to Cap 2. Might have to take things very seriously if that happens.

Picks for this weekend?

Wanuiomata Vs Petone Armanis- I think Wanui are worth a draw here at home 1-1

Vic Uni Vs North Wellington- Uni

Petone Vs Wairarapa Utd- Wairarapa

Gardner Electrical Masterton AFC Vs Waterside Karori- Masterton with home advantage should be able to get all three!

Hullena park is a tough ground to play at at the best of times due to the supporters, and the grandstand, making it a great backdrop to a great pitch. Weather looking good for Saturday, and with us having a couple of players out, we will do it tough against Wharfies. Just make sure Wharfies pack their strip this time, as one of the teams that travelled over last year, had to play in the Wairarapa Evergreens strip and go and buy a full set of socks. Picking us to get up on this one, but I have to say that don't I. All the best to all teams on the weekend, especially White Swan Greytown who have Brooklyn Northern in the Chatham Cup.

Some tough picks this weekend. The Wainui game may come down to state of Richard Prouse, but still picking the Armanis to get home by a couple. Uni are on KP again which was a cow paddock last week, and could be a tight one. 'Rapa will take Petone comfortably. Uni will be hoping Masterton get up at home to give them a bit of breathing space. I'm picking a draw.

Greytown should pants BNU. They're rubbish.

There were two Wharfies teams last season. I'm guessing it was the Barcodes that forgot their kit as Cougars were fine apart from the poor performance on the day especially the doggy keeping.

If I was in charge of the strips that is definitely something I would do!  Probably by accident but possibly to freak the other team out by insisting we go skins!

Yeah tough round of fixtures.  I like that the league is shaping up to be quite tight.

Never played at Hullena Park so looking forward to it.

A mixture of results today. Fantastic result for University, with the 'Rapa somehow drawing 4-4 with Petone the Younger. The Cougars pumped Masterton; University deserved more than 3-1 against NW (who's older striker would have been busy devouring his foot after his pre-match banter); and the Gentleman's Petone predictably smashed Wainui.

Massive game next week on Karori Park.

Well put. Wharfies pumped Masterton. They came with every intention of playing footy, and that's what they done. Well deserved win to the Wharfies. We obviously relied on the home advantage, and perhaps the ref advantage too, but the latter was obviously wrong as he seemed to make some interesting calls, including calling the Wharfies first goal offside, when obviously it wasn't. If you don't appeal, you don't get the benefit of doubt. Although the deep discussion with the ref by the Gardner Electrical captain, after the game, cost him in his pocket. I don't think he was too bothered by the card, just making a point of a couple of decisions made, and the questions on why he made them. Onto next week, where we have North Wellington next week at home, so we will consolidate and train hard, and get into them next week

Picks for this weekend? Uni v Wharf should be a cracker, both sides bringing in some good form. Splitting hairs. Have a feeling Marist might struggle over the hill, Wainui to notch a win. Armanis are good enough to take points off any team, but Rapa should have a bit of fire in their bellies after drawing against Petone youth. Picking NW and Greytown in the other fixtures.

I think Uni will knock over Wharfies, Wainui to perhaps notch a first win against Marist, Masterton to get all three points against NW and Wai Utd and Petone to both win respectively.

Uni v Wharfies is hard to pick - but we should take it if we can last the 90, especially if Karori Park's a bit rough (we're used to it). Wainui are woeful, so Marist should grab all three of those points. NW are almost equally bad, and will struggle against Masterton. The 'Rapa will bounce back with a vengeance, and I'm picking the draw for Petone v Greytown.

Think that Uni's fitness and Wharfie's ability to break down what has comfortably been the stingiest defence will decide the match

Yeah looking forward to the game tomorrow.  Hopefully this rain doesnt affect the pitch too much.  Think it is going to be a case of who takes their chances really!  Both teams have a pretty solid defence it seems.  Take away our first game of the season in Greytown where we had an outfield player in goals and we have only conceded 3 goals in 5 games whilst scoring 18.

Hopefully both teams are going into this one confident and we get a cracking game out of it!

We have played our best football this season when the weather has been at its worst!  Being from Scotland I like to think the poor conditions give me home advantage!

Masterton to thump NW.  Gardner Electrical due for a performance after recognising we played badly last week against Wharfies, and with a strong turnout at training and the coaching staff running us ragged, I doubt the boys at MAFC want to perform like that again.

Greytown to stroll past Petone, by a few goals, with Chris Kirkham carrying his form from Masterton last year, scoring at will at the moment.

University to go down by 1 against the Wharfies, who as posted previously, have a great defence, and i dont rate the striking force of Uni at the moment

Wainui -Marist = Draw

Armanis have always enjoyed the trip over to the Rapa, but being on a sunday, it may be their downfall.  But experience will come out for Armanis, and with the Wairarapa United 1st team playing away to Napier, and the possible loss of a few experienced Central League players that the 2nds use, Petone may just sneak this one.  3-2 Petone

All the best everyone for tomorrow, and look forward to checking the results after the games tomorrow and veiwing the Wai 2nds v Petone Armanis game on Sunday

Huge result for Karori today. I thought we deserved a point, but a slow start and two mistakes cost us dearly. Karori were very physical which was always going to challenge us, and only really a couple of our guys stepped up. Their centre back, Eric, was a deserved MOM in what is a very strong defensive side. I thought we played the better of the attacking football but simply were unable to break them down. Well played Karori.

Ref got a 2 out of 10 from us. No consistency, except in foul throws. He was bloody lucky somebody didn't get injured.

Let's hope the 'Rapa get knocked over tomorrow. Looking forward already to the return fixture on the proper KP.

Ye Uni Wharf was a bloody good battle. IMO Karori had the better of the chances, and looked more likely to score, up until the last twenty minutes, with Uni's subs providing some good impact and camping us down in our own half.
Ref was better than some of the others we've had. Shaping up to be a tight three way tussle for promotion

Good result for Marist. I predicated a draw so that wasn't so bad.

Greytown went down to petone, didn't pick that.

Sounds like the wharf got up over Uni, so got the one right

We lost to NW, so got that wrong too.

Roll on tomorrow, it's Wairarapa vs Armanis

A fair assessment. The game was won and lost in the physical tussles and in the air.

This string seems to have died in the last week. A shame, because a raft of weekend results mean the league is alive. I'd love to hear a Wharfies perspective on the trip to the 'Rapa.

Uni played in some of the worst wind I've ever encountered last night in I-Bay. Fortunately the rain died out just after kickoff, so Marist's misery was not compounded. A couple of goals from our Captain early in the second half killed this as an encounter. Marist didn't want to be there (and to be honest, neither did we).

We're home to Greytown this weekend, but are missing a few players in key positions, so it could be interesting.

Karori were missing some key players going over to the Rapa and had no (usable) subs. No excuse for the first half though, Rapa completely dominant in possession and had plenty of chances going forward. Going with the wind we managed the odd scare but nothing of note. 2 nill at the break.

Second half we pulled finger and had a few golden opportunities that we didn't manage to put away. Could have really made a game of it there. But then Rapa scored their third and we nabbed a consolation on full time. Points went were they were deserved.

Looking to bounce back against Marist on Saturday.

Wharfies to beat Marist.  Wharfies a good team with good structure
Wainui to beat North Wellington - Home ground advantage may take this one
Masterton to beat Wairarapa - WU will be missing the key player in Mirek, as he will have 1st team duty with the Central Leaguers at the same time.  Masterton to squeeze a couple, and older heads to step up to the mark on this one, especially in front of the Hullena Park rowdys in the crowd
Uni to beat Greytown - Greytown missing some key players, including their towering centre back, who has left for the season, and a couple of poms, they had playing have gone home.  Still expect it to be high scoring, with uni taking it
Petone (youngins) have shown some form over the last few weeks, but i think Armanis will take it.  Great finisher in Liam up front with speed to burn

All the best to all those involved this weekend.  Oh and Rapa to lose to Olympic on Saturday, but beat Miramar on Monday in the Chatham Cup.
