Playing for Onehunga Sports' 2nd team this year. We've got an absolute whiz playing in goal for the Conference team but she's carrying a few injuries so I might get a couple of games in the big league, who can tell. Got a former Football Fern for coach which is always good. Will post little stories here as and when appropriate.

Georgia's cool, as an ex keeper she understands the epic nature of my daily struggle

Ana's injured this weekend and my team have a bye so I'll be playing for the 1st (Conference) team against Ellerslie at Waikaraka.

(Chopah, your ladies are going to get one heck of a beating ;) )

should be a good game - couple of ex ellerslie players in the first team squad at Onehunga, so look forward to seeing them play again.

I'm trapped on Waiheke at the moment but trying to get back in time to watch - pity the game is not on #1 so I can have a beer on the balcony and watch.

3-4 to Chopah's ladies. Three of the Ellerslie goals came from set pieces, which is embarrassing. Our ladies had about 90% of the chances, but the German lady playing up front for Ellerslie was scarily clinical, and we weren't. :(

Here's the video. I remember the third Ellerslie goal as an embarrassing howler from yours truly, but it looks more like I was confused by the wind catching the ball in the air.

I am really enjoying the amount of keeper training that I'm getting at OneSports. In fact, that's why I insist on keeping pushing myself to play as high a level as I possibly can, and me about ready for the retirement home - I've been looking for a club where I might actually get some keeper training. I got a little bit at Metro a couple of years ago, but last year I was at a club which had two (or three?) former FF keepers on the books and I got half a session on keeper skills all season.

I honestly think there's a gap in the market for skills coaching for adult women. There seems to be a huge divorce between all the hothousing of young women who have a shot of going pro or playing for their country, whereas older women (who are never going to be elite but still want to be as good as they can get) are expected to be satisfied with the "mums' coffee group" social leagues where even turning up to 1 practice a week is seen as a huge commitment. That's not for me.

First win today after 3 straight losses. 5-3 is okay, but considering we were 4-0 up at one point it was slightly dicey.

2-2 draw against the league leaders. They scored in the 2nd and 88th minute and we played all the football in between, very frustrating. I saved a penalty (okay, it went wide, but I dived the right way so would have saved it anyway)

I thought you played Onehunga Mangere not Beachlands?

Ha ha, shows how well I know how to read a league table :D It was of course OMUFC.

(Played Beachlands a couple of weeks back, lost 3-1. I was subbed in the second half and coach said he enjoyed having me on the sideline yelling at players. I pointed out that I do that on the field as well.)

GAAH, second game in a row where the opposition scored in the first 5 and last 5 minutes. We've got to work on our concentration.

Still, 2-1 loss to ESub's 3rd team is not too bad given that last year this team were going down 13-0 some weeks.

Our first team going on a KS cup mission to Hamilton next weekend. I believe Katie's family live there so they'll get a good feed at least.

KATIE D: Well done D., you're really improving.

ME: Thanks! I'm doing a lot of fitness work in my own time.

KATIE D: Yeah, it shows!

... ha ha, I didn't improve quite enough to make the grade for Prems Reserves this year. A shame because I really liked Katie's coaching.
