We have a thread for TV shows that we each think a good so how a out a thread for shit shows?

For example there's a new season of that sasquatch show coming up on Discovery. WTF, if it existed how come they never find it, photograph it?. All you hear is a few noises in the distance and they all claim that it is one. How do they know? Have they ever actually met one? Forest creatures expecially Owls can come out with some interesting noises.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Following, which is the biggest pile of Lia I have ever seen on television, but I have to watch it through to the conclusion.  Sometimes (usually when I am really drunk) I find that I am actually enjoying it. One episode to go in season 2 and I am really hoping (for the sake of my sanity) that they make no more.

Anyone watched "Steven Seagal - Lawman? Just how bad is it? Worse than an episode of Shortland Street. Well, nearly. He's a part time deputy and walking around like he's the main man.

Everyone wears a standard uniform except for our Steven, he has to wear Desert Storm camos whilst everyone else is in white shirts, blue trousers and bullett proof vests. And sadly, our man has stuck on so much weight he's very fat, not just fat but very fat.

Re: Sasquatch - there are many cultures around the world that have legends and sightings of large ape-like cyrptids . America  has truck loads with all sorts of names but so does Russia, Nepal, (Yeti), Mongolia, South America, Africa, Australia, (Yowie), even New Zealand has the Moehau.

So why haven't we filmed them? Most countries that they are supposed to inhabit are vast beyond belief. If you've ever flown over Mongolia on the way to NZ overnight it is awe-inspiring how few people live out there and how vast the country is. America has large unpopulated areas also. Mind you, LG you are correct of course,  many sightings are simply misidentified bears or other animals.

Other folk I think it was Paul Devereux believe that these cryptids exist outside or apart from our world so can only be seen, heard etc at rare times when their world co-exists briefly with ours. This sort of phenomenon might include those accounts of cafes, petrol stations, etc that people visit only to find once they left and returned no cafe or petrol station was ever there. It might also explain how some people just vanish off the face of the earth.

It is also possible that people are experiencing some sort of temporary psychotic state or perhaps a temporal lobe event. Sleep paralysis is often characterized by an individual being visited by a hag-like being during sleep and being unable to move. Every culture has it's version of this "entity" and it was considered a supernatural event but now has a perfectly scientifically acceptable diagnosis.

My take is there that if we keep on looking we will eventually find an explanation, but in the meantime it makes the world a weird and interesting place.

The TV show is bloody awful though

I love that show! Well that's a bit strong, I watched it a couple of times and enjoyed it for it's totally unintentional comedy. Saw (fat) Steve teaching his deputies how to take a gun off someone and it was brilliant. He's quite quick for a unit but was out of breath in no time. Comedy gold!

Is "In the Night Garden" still on?  I swear the writers were doing some line of hallucinogen.

On the flipside I really enjoyed Hi-5 with Kathleen.

First it was Dancing with the Not Stars on TV 3 which js very bad but just when you thought it could not get any worse, TV 3 surpassed it with Come Dine With Me NZ which specializes in showing us 5 disfuntional Aucklanders having dinner and the very unfunny Guy Williams trying to be funny - which he isn't.

Si & Gary's Now that's NOT Funny show. Is there a New Zealand made TV show that Simon Barnett has not ever been on? Talk about over exposed and Gary McCormack, the most cynical unfunny commentator. The man whom manipulated and made Chloe a house hold name for all the wrong reasons and made Wainui cringe.

I didn't expect to be proved right so quickly but thanks Si & Gary, you've given me another excuse to not watch TV 3. Paul Henry is rapidly becoming the last saving grace of a toilet channel with much of the kudos to go to Julie Christie and the CEO for TV 3. Credit where it is due.

Blaspheme! One of the newer iterations, Mystery Incorporated, was pretty top notch. But if you don't like talking dogs I'm guessing you're not going to be on board with a talking Parrot with a German accent.

The problem with NZ TV right now is the love affair with Reality shows displayed by the broadcasters. I am so over them it isn't funny, Cooking shows, Home renovation shows, Dancing, Singing, Surviving, and Bachorling type crap have been forced onto us via TV 1 , 2 and especially TV 3 and Julie Christie. Why the hell can't she emigrate to Argentina?

The problem is they are cheap to make and probably get a good return with sponsor deals/advertising. Unfortunately that makes them  appealing to TV execs.

The good thing is we have pretty good choice of programmes available to us thru various means, it's just most of it is not NZ content.

“Medium” is my favourite. Aside from the fact they’re making up bullshark, it annoys me to no end how they are ripping off vulnerable people.

Without giving specifics for privacy reasons, my job allows me to see the income of self-employed and contractor customers, and one of the “psychics” from that show is doing ludicrously well.

So on friday night I just happened to come across "Heartbreak island uncut" and thought I'd see what all the fuss was about.

Well, crikey, I don't know what to say. But how did we as a society go from worshipping the likes of Chopin,Bach and Sir Ed to end up being this dumbed down and sexed up all in the name of entertainment?

Would appear to me that NZ has done something I thought not possible after the Bachelor and has hit a new low.

Speaking of new lows I saw Coronation Street 2018 and my gran would be rolling in her grave if she could see how ridiculous that programme has become.

Seems every TV company is trying to outdo the other in a race for the bottom

I just found it. It appears that it is 18 months behind but they are going to jump up to a week or so behind the UK.

In Oz they are about a week behind but they have 6 episodes a week

Don't know much about these other shows but my missus watches Shortland Street, always has, so I see a bit of it.

I must say I'm very impressed with their writers. The issues they address in their storylines are usually current issues in NZ society, I feel they are very brave with what they take on. They're currently going through a domestic violence theme for example, every side of it too - the struggles of both the victim and the abuser and their relationship, the secrecy side of things, the whole lot. They do this time and again. They've addressed the housing crisis, medicinal cannabis, domestic violence, p*rn addiction, drug addiction, underage drinking, depression and teen suicide, just to name a few, all in the last couple of seasons

I'm not going to vouch for the level of acting or anything else to do with the show, but their constant attention to NZ society and the real issues people face here is impressive, brave, and worthy of praise in my opinion.

I heard that the cast of Shortland Street auditions for roles in the Thunderbirds TV series remake but missed out because the producers felt that the "puppets" gave off  a better "human emotion" than the Shortland Street actors.

Their technique with new actors is interesting. I've noticed they tend to bring them in on seemingly short-term storylines, and then it seems as if they see how they go first, and then expand their role if they're any good, or write them out if they're not.

It's very common for a new person to be a terrible actor in their first few appearances, but then improve really quickly, you see it time and again.

For example I remember when that KJ Apa came on, his acting was just about the worst I've seen, he was all over the place. Improved out of sight really quickly though, and now he's on a big series in Hollywood. Mental.
