And that's the problem with having a global economy which will crash and impoverish people if we don't keep buying useless stuff and putting our health in danger.

Sorry, off topic.

That makes zero sense. Let's see how everyone's living standards are after 6 weeks with the global economy shut down. Buying useless stuff makes the world go round

Really want to join the critiques of the global capitalist economy, but also so off topic. Tough times.

Absolutely fantastic news that all our players are going over, was really worried that a few may pull out. And we can train! We're still a chance!

It's over. Get them home to their families. The fact people are encouraging this charade means we're really in danger of focussing on the wrong things here. For perspective, the US stock market is down 30% in a month. Think of the flow on effects of that through the economy, kiwisaver, retirees. NZ has shut down it's entire foreign tourism industry (effectively). That's 5% of GDP gone overnight, thousands of jobs. That's the stuff people should be worried about solving, not whether the phoenix can complete a season behind closed doors to keep Fox Sports from having to refund customers because there's no sport on.

Its so bitter sweet. On won hand I am pleased we have won a battle against FFA/AU to train in iso and play in Australia. On the other hand I am apoplectic that this circus is going ahead and we are a part of it.

Can see your point, but welcome to football - where money rules and common sense often comes to die, where nothing is ever straight forward and things coming out of left field might as well be the norm.

Still, we love to see it.

Really cant believe they trust the Aussies.About 3/4 days ago they told the  Victory players they were good to come to NZ. I wish the lads well and hope they stay safe and healthy. Given what's happening in the world sad money is thought of before players safety

Dome and the nix have worked miracles here, I have no doubt it was a tremendous amount of work. As for them playing, everyone has jobs, being isolated and with dedicated medical staff the phoenix players are safer than someone working hospitality. As they say, we all have a mortgage and these are the sorts of events that really drive steel into a team, if they do well it will be all the more sweeter.

Ultimately the players are adults, they can make their own decisions

Also you can have socialism and a global economy

If someone in the government made that statement they should be sacked, anyone could see it was a changing situation and only the prime minister can make those sorts of promises.

pretty sure it was the FFA that told them that but the government then brought in the 14 day isolation when entering australia

Not from the reports I saw they sought assurances from the government. Whatever I wish the lads well not an easy decision to make and good to see them stick together. Shows they are a tight group. Just sad none of us can be there when they go all the way.

best wishes to all that have committed to this. My conversations with some impacted people is that they want to see this through and get as far into finals football as they can for this player group and others who have gone before. Kia kaha

More countries are closing their borders. What happens to the Nix' international players if NZ follows suit and they are over in Sydney?

I think FOX Sport deserve a special mention in all this. The pressure they have put on the FFA to continue etc. It's a crazy world at the moment. I don't want the Nix to go but I am no one important. I feel for all the staff and their families.

I was hoping that FIFA would have stepped in and canned the whole thing. postponed it for 2 months. Yes, I can appreciate player contracts etc ending and all that but this is a special situation and stuff like that can be dealt with. The FFA  are not innocent either but it sounds like Domey & the club have achieved some form of victory in some respects.

I note rugby here in NZ is now on hold at almost all levels. the reality it, time to batten down the hatches and let this thing run it's course. I wonder how close to finding an Anti Virus situation is going.

Stay healthy and well you lot.

Ps: Dale, nice dress ;)

FFA chief executive James Johnson has admitted he is relieved Wellington Phoenix are heading to Australia to complete the A-League season.

Wellington Phoenix's decision to go-ahead with their travel to Australia has left FFA chief executive James Johnson a relieved man.

So Perth need to head to NSW.

To be on the safe side maybe all other teams should join them in NSW.

Farce.

Apparently if that happens FFA will call it off as they have 4 home games left. As you said a farce so if called off after our guys have left they will have 4 weeks of self isolation for nothing.I would be well pissed off

The government is calling on all New Zealanders overseas to come back home and advising against all non-essential travel overseas. Sounds like we're about the properly shut the borders. If the team leave today, who knows when they might be able to get back home.

Things are changing so quickly there is no way I would be risking anything for a game of football. Actually think its irresponsible to even be asking the team to make that sort of decision.

If this is going to happen I hope they give a few days notice. Even if they close the borders, Immigration can't stop NZers returning here, all be it into isolation or what ever measures are in place. But for the Nix I don't know where that would leave our import players, Australians etc. Some of them might prefer to be in Aus. But what a total shambles if it comes to this. Which is looking more likely every day.

Everyone who is surprised by all of this is naive, they never should have agreed to fly over. I would have salute the team for saying: No. I'm not sure when they fly today, I hope there's still time to stop this non sense.

The season is over.

It's very naïve to be making any longish-term plans right now - I mean, all you have to do is see where we were this time last week to now to appreciate how fast and fluid the situation is.

Yep yet some of us were abused when we said it should have been all off.Think there must be more than a few who just don't look at what has been happening in other parts of the world. Think they must think because we are so far away we arnt as vunerable. As you said "very naïve".

If we want to finish the competition off this season, I think have to do it now. I'm not seeing much expert opinion that is saying in a month or two things will be better.

Make sure the squads are isolated from general public so they don't contract it, and go on in empty stadiums.

Otherwise realistically could be not finishing the season, or could try finish it with different squads down the track which would be a farce.
