I watched the replay last night at 7pm I don't really think it was
a bad time to have it on. But without a doubt the media coverage is
a problem. The Phoenix are going to have to be successful and
reasonably fast if we want football to be big in NZ.
maybe it's time they gave football fans their own 24hr channel they've 505 channels now whats one more
Trouble is if they created a separate football channel, they'd probably make us pay extra for it
on the subject of Manu Vatuvei, I felt sorry for him. He had a bad
game yes, but he is a quality player who just needs to get his
confidence up.
Man that guy needs a pair of hands to start off with - we all go through patches but this guys trains as a professional - catching a ball in league is a basic skill...like taking a touch and pass in football is a basic skill....

Have seen some professional footballers over the years who you
would swear never even had any of those skills and that includes
keepers who cant bloody catch.

Has Football got any chance of being a a success here in New
Zealand.
It would seem unlikely judging by the coverage given to
The All Whites excellent international game against Wales on
Saturday night.
Shown once at some unearthly hour when most television
sets are pushing out the ZZZ's.
However the "Other Game" played with the odd shaped ball
is on all sides at all times, why would a true Kiwi want to
watch 2 teams of Ozzy thugs play a game of rugby league, then
see it repeated 4 times.
If our national squad can't get airtime, what chance
have The Nix got ? (kiss good bye to your millions
Terry)
It's a national disgrace! so can I suggest that as
a starter the membership of Yellow Fever, get the ball rolling and
bombard TV NZ, Prime, Maori, Sky & Fox, with letters,
emails, faxes etc, complaining and strongly demanding that more air
time be devoted to NZ FOOTBALL, otherwise The
Nix are going to go the same was as The
Knights.
The TV networks find the space for English,
Spanish, Italian & German leagues, but will not promote home
grown talent.

AKA Skaman
agreed, let the bombarding begin.

The Nix are also going to need a crowd, to show the media
that there is a following for Football, but then the media are
going to have to help promote the games.
CATCH 22
You can turn them around, but you need to get crowds! And in
numbers that the media just can't ignore anymore.
Here in Melbourne we were getting smashed by the Murdoch
press, Packer TV and right-wing talkback radio after a non-insident
was beaten up into a "Sokkah riot!!" and we said "f**k THAT!!!" and
staged a wee protest.
Know exactly how you feel KP, I've supported Millwall for decades
and we have always had the media on our back.
i've just seen the third replay of the eels versus manu vativi
(thank god i support the sharks) since monday night
and since the live feed of the all whites only 1 replay at 7.00pm that sunday which does suck a little
but all in all they show a fair heap of football on sky and they show more all whites games than tvnz ever did
maybe it's time they gave football fans their own 24hr channel they've 505 channels now whats one more

Agreed (about needing a football channel), and on the subject of
Manu Vatuvei, I felt sorry for him. He had a bad game yes, but he
is a quality player who just needs to get his confidence up.

That's why it's good to live with your parents.

But if there was a football channel it would only show the
usual Premier, Spanish & Italian pap, helping to line the big
boys pockets - driving the wedge further between real grass roots
footy and chelski fantisy football.
A mate of mine had a Soccer AM DVD sent over from England. Great
show, covers all leagues (and even non-league), funny, special
guests, and Helen has a great set.
Something like that would be great for a football channel.
Maybe some recent ex-pat poms could advise if there's anything else
similar?
Soccer AM is one great show and as you say Ms Chamberlin has
luverly puppies.
ITV in England also does another programme on Sundays showing
all the goals from the proper English leagues and features a
different club every week.
The all white game was replayed many a times guys. As for
Vatuvei.....way to lose me money...I had Eels 12 and under. Cant
see why crockett wasnt there anyway.....scores lots of
tries...thats what they want isisnt it???? P.S go the titans
A football show on a terrestrial channel. Even if it is a
week behind.
A precursor to the next round of NZFC, A-League, Premiership,
European games.
Although the All Whites created a popularity all of their own
in 1981 - 1982. Imagine a couple of thousand turning out to
welcome them home from Singapore. Media reports every couple
of nights. Front page news, the whole of the front page, when
we qualfied, special edition!!!
England were close to being knocked out of qualifying for the
World Cup, so the BBC sent out a crew to follow them around, they
adopted the All Whites for a bit, even sent out their best
commentators to do our games.
TV3 Sport seems to be making a bit of a play for the football
market (not too difficult given TV1's attitude).
TV3 covered the Phoenix warm up game v the U20s in the weekend
and then tonight had a clip on the 25th anniversary of the All
Whites in Spain -

Good on them. Let's hope they keep it up.
I agree. I've seen lots of good, positive football coverage
on TV3 recently. Except for the fact that TVNZ might show the
U20s World Cup matches, I would be giving up on them all together.
The game does have a chance. That chance is is in our hands not the media. The success of the Phoenix will be measured by our commitment. If we are at the games in numbers, and create a proper football atmosphere, the Nix will attract sponsors, and the sponsors will attract the media. The numbers are there. If all everyone who plays, and everyone whose kids play turn out for matches, the numbers will be astonishing.
You can show your commitment in a number of ways. Make sure
potential partners have birthdays in the off-season. If your
current partner has a birthday during the season, you know what to
do. Or anniversaries, no more summer weddings. If your already
married, consider renewing your vows, or if you must divorce. The
same with children, plan these things. Try not to have summer
babies. If you already have children born in the seaon, make them
fans or adopt them out. If a loved one dies during the season,
consider cryogenics. There should be no excuses.
And the least acceptable excuse, is if we are losing. If you
only support a team that wins your not a supporter. I've followed
Spurs for 30 years, which has meant mostly 30 years of
dissappointment. It doesn't matter, I still love, and now I love
the Phoenix.
I hope that are not as pitiful as the Knights. But if they are
we must all still be there at the last home game. That's what
supporters do.
Finally what supported don't do is turn up to matchs wearing
someone elses shirt. It's football adultery. We should present a
mass of yellow and black at our home.
the boys from Spam United will be standing right there with you
slimshaney. Och aye the noo!
