This article http://www.yellowfever.co.nz/show-news.asp?ID=333 presents a nice novel way for football/ rugby and other codes to join forces and share costs and strengths.

This model is similar to tha emplyed my many German /European sports clubc. VfB Stuttgart (who won the Bundesliga this year) are a sports club, although their football team brings in most of the earnings. I think if this is successfull here in NZ, more local clubs will go this way.

This is really interesting and innovative sports management.  The great thing is that you can get cross over appeal in terms of fans and also sponsorship and avoid repeating structures for three organisations unnecessarily.  It will be interesting to see how it works going forward.

Greytown has been doing this sort of thing for a couple of years now and sparc is using it as a bit of a role model. Not just mainstream sports but karate, bowls etc are a part of it.

Basically all of the clubs have remained separate, but the sport& leisure society as it is known, helps out with all the admin and funding applications. This leaves the clubs to get on with all the coaching etc.

Works really well especially now less people have time to be secretaries etc

In ChCh this model is also already in existence with Rangers AFC having linked up with Linwood Rugby under the umbrella of Linfield Sports. Not sure how well it is working, have heard there is some disgruntlement from the football club but as I am not directly involved I can't really say. Maybe there are some other members who would know more about this. Seems to work well in some situations but I doubt whether it is a universal solution. Ronaldoknow2007-06-09 22:16:57
