Liberato Cacace — 8

"Cacace has presented himself as one of the Phoenix’s stronger options when in attack and a handy intelligent option defensively. Liberated his teammates often with his sweet cut ins and quick ball movement."   Football Insider

He is quickly presenting himself as a great All Rounder

For a 17yr old kid who presented as a CB option he has developed into a quality LB/LWB option, shows a lot of smarts and football talent.

I was waiting for the yet again unbiased Australian referee to book him for that. How that never happened, I don't know, he gave our guys cards but but only one to theirs despite their cynical fouling. Having said that, 2ndbest you are spot on, this lad has shown where his balls are!

Not flashy on the left but uses the ball really well. Nicely weighted crosses, excellent interplay with team mates

Played really well in the game the other day. Living up to some of the flashes of potential he showed last season. Chuffed for him

Wellington Phoenix defender Liberato Cacace believes he has taken his game to a new level, now that he no longer has to rush back to school after training or study on the flight to away games.

Gets a mention on Roma's twitter. I just say this comes as a surprise to me. I thought he was a Napoli boy and his idol was Hamsik or someone like that.
Still, great to hear if true.

That made me picture him running around with a massive Hamsik style Mohawk. Personally hope he opts for this in the future, we don't have enough ridiculous hairstyles on the team currently

His Dad is a big Roma fan. If you go to Bella Italia Restaurant which his parents operate in Petone you will see plenty of Roma merchandise.

Exactly, I've known Antonio for 14 years and this is news to me... Plenty of Napoli shirts and flags in his restaurant from memory...the family hail from the Naples hinterland and asa far as I know they're Napoli through and through. Perhaps Libby admires Totti (how could he not... Best Italian player since after second World War...) the way I think Mertens or Insigne are terrific players and I'd have them in yellow and red in a flash!

Liberato is one of nine players highlighted by World Soccer magazine in their July issue (p.61) as stars of the u-20 World Cup.

"Talent Scout: Under-20 Stars":

Liberato CACACE: "The Junior All White left-back of Italian heritage was much to the fore as New Zealand surprisingly reached the last 16 of the competition. Still only 18, his high-energy style, sumptuous technique and sense of adventure were there for all to see, and he has reportedly been scouted by a number of European clubs. He currently plays his club football at home with Wellington Phoenix and insists that he is in no rush to move on. And despite his tender years, he played more minutes last season than any other Phoenix player."

Same issue of the mag mentions Nelson Suburbs in an article about Solomons footballers.

And has stats on Tyler Boyd's appearance for the USA in the recent Gold Cup.

And Roly Bonevacia is mentioned in the results scoring for Curacao in the semi of the Kings Cup in Thailand vs. India.

Really bad timing if he does have to go before the completion of the league but that's outside of anyone's control really. Also I think both Belgium and Holland would be a great stepping stones for him, much better than say Serie A which has been talked about before but which I believe wouldn't help with his development

It could all happen pretty quick, if Nix get a substantial offer.

And if he does leave for Europe soon, I guess it would be direct from Australia.

2 weeks quarantining in a NZ hotel room, would be very inconvenient.

Just hope he is getting some sound advice and ends up somewhere decent. Would certainly hope he is able to get a gig the equivalent of what Sing was able to get as he  surely has as much if not more potential. Especially given where he plays there arnt that many of quality become available.

Would hope it's a big club in either league if he does go. Anderlecht or Club Brugge for Belgium or Ajax/PSV/Feyenoord for Holland. Despite being the unlikeliest, Ajax would be the best possible move for him. Ajax only really have one left full back at the moment now that Blind has fully transitioned to centre back, and that's Tagliafico. The guy is an absolute gun and either will get sold to a bigger club or would be a perfect guy for Libby to learn under. Make it happen, Erik ten Hag.

Yep, I too would hope that if he is moving the Beligum or Holland, he moves to one of the bigger clubs. Obv different positions, and difficult to compares apples with oranges but imo Libby is more developed and well rounded than Sarpreet. And look where he is.

yeah, he's been a pretty big point of discussion in foreign scouting circles from what i've seen on the internet, and many are recommending Ajax. Him behind Tagliafico (or even thrown into the first XI if he leaves) would be fantastic. I 100% support the idea that he can reach higher than either of those leagues very quickly

I hope he has sensible advice and does not even look towards the English comp - his style and footballing brain seems to be more suited for the Continental style. Quality of Belgian football has improved markedly over the past few years and would not be a bad option if Ajax does not pan out for Libby.

Feyenoord would indeed be a conflict of interest, and i thought begrudgingly supporting Thomas at Eindhoven was bad enough!

Sour grapes. He's just envious cause he is doomed to follow Hansa Rostock, a once proud club.

"F.C. Hansa Rostock [is a German association football club based in the city of Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. They have emerged as one of the most successful clubs from the former East Germany and have made several appearances in the top-flight Bundesliga.

After being in the Bundesliga for ten years, from 1995 to 2005, Rostock suffered a steady decline. In 2012, the club was relegated to the 3. Liga for the second time and is now playing there for the eighth consecutive season."

Really hope your sauce is wrong (or overcooked). Much as I enjoy following Kiwi players in Italy, I think that would not be a great move for him at this stage. Continental Europe would be much better in my opinion (Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France in this order)
