Leon starting to get some game time, came on vs Helmond last week in 3-0 win, and played full 90 vs NEC last night. 4-1 loss, reserve game but Kevin Vermeulen played for Waalwijk (Excelsior last season and highest value player on RKC books right now) and Nijmegen were superb by all accounts. Mike den Heijer came on for NEC second half and the boys caught up post game to reminisce over old WYNRS days.

yep reserve team and pre 2nd half of the season non competition game. Team made up mostly first team players who didn't play Friday night, and Leon got a start & 90 minutes. this is relevant bit of match report;

'Jong RKC liet van zich spreken in de eerste helft. Alle drie de Waalwijkse doelpunten vielen namelijk in het eerste bedrijf. Ingo van Weert was trefzeker uit een hoekschop, waarna niet veel langer Leon van den Hoven de Gorinchemse doelman uittestte. Zijn schot was echter zo goed geraakt dat het afstandsschot binnenviel: 2-0. Jong RKC bleek uit standaardsituaties uiterst effectief. Nog voor het rustsignaal maakte de Geelblauwen hun derde goal van de avond. Jan Lammers vond het net uit weer een corner.'

rough translation of bold font; after which it wasn't much longer before Leon van den Hoven tested the Gorinchem Keeper. his shot from distance  was hit so well that it went in.

RKC 2 wins first game after winter break

Today

The second team of RKC made its first victory last night after the winter break. Sander Duits's team won 2-1 at home against NEC 2. Goalscorers on behalf of RKC were Leon van den Hoven and Hans Mulder. The only goal of NEC 2 was made by Brian Campman.

There was not much spectacle in the Mandemakers stadium last night. Both teams were somewhat reluctant and real big chances came only after the first goal was scored. This happened only in the 27th minute. Ezra Walian was launched after a long ball at Bilate. He gave a good cross, which was headed in hard by Leon van den Hoven. After this goal, NEC became more dangerous, but RKC managed to keep the lead and took a 1-0 lead.

Also in the second half, both teams remained equal to each other. After a few chances on both sides and a good save by Heemskerk on behalf of RKC, NEC managed to make the equalizer. A stabbing made Brian Campman one on one came with Kees Heemskerk and managed to take advantage of this opportunity: 1-1. After this it seemed to be a tie for a long time. Still, RKC managed to win the victory by a late goal by Hans Mulder, who managed to work in a pass in the 85th minute: 2-1.

With this RKC 2 achieves its first victory in the championship pool and climbs a number of places in the rankings. Next week, RKC 2 will play a home match against Heracles Almelo 2. This game starts at 14:00 and is free to visit.

Line-up RKC Waalwijk 2: Kees Heemskerk, Gigli Ndefe, Hans Mulder, Ingo van Weert, Tom Cappan © (69 'Daan van der Harst), Nikki Baggerman, Leon van den Hoven, Ezra Walian, Saïd Bakari, Mario Bilate (45' Najim Haddouchi) and Darren Maatsen.

NEC Nijmegen 2: Job Schuurman, Anass Achahbar, Lance Duijvenstijn (73 'Zilja Azizov), Steven Smulder, Denzel Budde, Bart Spierings ©, Hicham Haouat, Brian Campman, Christophe van Zutphen, Souffian Elkarouani and Morad El Haddouti.

Scorecourse:

1-0 27 'Leon van den Hoven
1-1 63' Brian Campman
2-1 85 'Hans Mulder

Wow, actually some names I recognise there - Mulder, Walian, Bilate, Achahbar. Can't be too bad a level of competition even though it's reserve level, stoked he's getting full games there

I see no Michael Den Heijer in match day squad for NEC II.

Presume he is still at Nijmegen?

Hasn't made a first team match day squad this season, when he was often on a large bench there last season.

Yeah, might have mentioned it in his thread but they sacked the manager last season and the new manager doesn’t rate Michael. Fairly sure he’s on the look out for a new gig while he waits out his contract. Hopefully he can pick something up in the Netherlands

RKC 2 registers second victory in the U23 competition

Today

RKC 2 succeeded yesterday in booking a victory in the Reserve Competition.ADO Den Haag 2 was defeated in its own Mandemakers Stadium, which up to that moment was without loss. Before the break, Darren Maatsen gave the home team the lead, where Mario Bilate set the final score 2-0 just after the break.

Where the NEC (2-1) promises had already been won, a draw against FC Emmen (1-1) and lost to PEC Zwolle and Fortuna Sittard (3-0 and 1-0), the second time last night won.

The team of Sander Duits and Erwin van Breugel started the race well. Still it had to wait for the opening goal. It came in the name of Darren Maatsen within the first half hour. The speedy winger benefited from an error in the defense of ADO and outcast goalie Indy Groothuizen: 1-0.

Where it was that one goal in the first half, RKC got a great opportunity to double the score in the first minute of the second company. Mario Bilate remained extremely cool for the goal and scored the 2-0. The early doubling of the backlog turned out to be ADO too much. Both teams created hardly any great and played opportunities afterwards, so that the Yellow-Blue achieved an important victory.

RKC 2 will play its next league match on April 8. It will then visit the promises of the current leader FC Twente (6.30 p.m.). The Yellow-Blue currently have seven points from six games.

Set up RKC Waalwijk 2: Jordy Zielschot, Noël de Graauw, Ingo van Weert, Kevin Nikolov ©, Gigli Ndefe, Najim Haddouchi, Leon van den Hoven, Saïd Bakari, Darren Maatsen, Mario Bilate, David Min.

ADO Den Haag 2 setup: Indy Groothuizen, Robin Polley, Dehninio Muringen, Jamal Amofa, Nadir Achahbar, John Aidan Reynolds, Kyle Ebecilio, Maarten Rieder, Chovanie Amatkaryo, Killian van Mil, Yahya Boussakou.

Score run
1-0 26 'Darren Maatsen
2-0 46' Mario Bilate

RKC Waalwijk, have made final round of playoffs, re promotion to Eredivisie.

Not bad for a club that that only finished 8th in Eereste Divisie.

They now need to beat Go Ahead Eagles over 2 legs to gain promotion.

So van den Hoven could end up the 4th Kiwi (after Thomas, Mcgarry & Woud) on the books at a top flight Dutch club.

Still yet to of course debut for the senior side.

In high drama Waalwijk get promoted. Go Head Eagles scored at 89th min to go 4-3 up at home (same score on aggregate), only for Waalwijk to equalise in 95th min. They then win it 5-4 in the 98th min with a pen. Pretty dramatic after a scoreless first leg.

So Eredivisie action next year for van den Hoven’s club. Might mean a bit harder for him to crack first team if they bring in some new players, but still a great experience when likes of Ajax and PSV pay a visit. Promotion a bit remarkable considering they only finished 8th in the regular season.
