George Barbarouses, brother of Kosta, won the Brisbane Premier League last night with Redlands, coached by a Kiwi, former Hawkes Bay coach Matt Chandler. Beat Eastern Suburbs 3-1 to take the title.

George rated one of best players in the league.

Redlands edged 5-4 by Brisbane Roar in a mid-week friendly:

http://www.thefootballsack.com/2012/08/roar-edge-redlands-in-nine-goal-thriller.html

"...Graham Fyfe and George Barbarouses looking particularly dangerous in attack...

... They were back on level terms two minutes later when Meredith secured his hat-trick. Again it started with Fyfe, this time the midfielder played Barbarouses in behind Roar's line and, despite heavily jostling, the plucky number eight eventually struck a low ball across the face of goal that was directed home by the lunging Meredith."

Galbraith's playing a full day by the look of it. Last home game for Apia at their dustbowl of a ground.

Bevan's left for a US scholarship?

Sydney Fc were supposed to play apia at Leichhardt Oval this Wed but it got canceled by Sydney yesterday. In return Tony P has promised to make it up to the club in a "special" way. Del Piero?

Well, Zola did put on an APIA shirt once...

Galbraith (2:24) has a goal up for the goal of the season award . Along with one by Tsattalios (0:27) and one which Pavlovic (0:05) set up.

Don't think any of them will win, I would vote for Harris Gaitatzis (2:03)

APIA Tigers pick up their first win of season, with a 3-1 win against the CCM Academy side.

The ‘go to’ man for APIA-Leichhardt’s penalty was debutant Aaron Clapham who’s unconvincing effort sent David Bradasevic early, however the shot lacked power which allowed the shot-stopper to flail his left glove in the opposite direction and make a save which was followed up by a secondary save with his legs.

Despite being a man down the Mariners still pushed the final third however it was a defensive lapse that gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead as Clapham made no mistake this time and tucked the opportunity away from just inside the penalty-area on the 57’ minute.

Aaron Clapham was filled with mixed emotions after the game which saw him score a goal and miss a penalty in his first match for the club:

“That was my first game here so it was good to get a win, the boys were a bit down after the start of the season so to come in and get a win straight up was really good.

“They [Central Coast] had a couple of good players in the middle of the park and played a nice style of football with some short passing so it was an enjoyable game to play in on a good surface, so it was fun.

“Being my first game I can’t speak too much of how it was going before but it’s a good bunch of boys, we all worked hard and created a few good chances.

“I missed a penalty and they broke to the other end and scored which wasn’t ideal but we kept our head up and kept going.

“We play them again on Wednesday (Waratah Cup quarterfinal) which will be a good battle. “The hardest thing is breaking that rut which I think we have done now so hopefully we can kick on from here.”

APIA Tigers progress to the Semi Final of the Waratah Cup, with a 4-3 win over CCM Academy in extra time.

APIA looked to hit back and Aaron Clapham headed straight at David Bradasevic, an effort that served as a warning shot.

A long range shot from Clapham was touched in by the lively Oswell and the scores were level.

Clapham is a good footballer. He is not rubbish. Its just he is not good enough for A League and in my opinion, needs to simplify his game down. He has some nice touches but he should use those to create space for himself when markers rush him, not in trying to make the clever pass. If he fixed that and stopped coughing the ball up, he would fit in ok. I somehow don't think he will.

4-2 loss for the APIA Tigers against the Sutherland Sharks.

Clapham was again instrumental in setting up APIA-Leichhardt’s next attack when slipping Jason Oswell in down the right with his whipped over cross sent wide from the advancing Tigers support who now well and truly had their tails up.

Clapham, who until now had been running the show for the Tigers with a very lively performance, found himself in the book for ‘simulation’ in the 39’ minute.

Clapham, such a livewire during the first 45’, was finally shackled in the second-half although still producing the odd moment of excitement

just a personal opinion, but i really do think that clapham needed to reinvent himself as a right sided midfielder some time ago.  for me, he is not technically good enough to be effective in the central attacking third areas at international or a-league level.

I'd just like people to remember that Pav is a quality striker at this level who bangs them in.

If you are looking for new players in australasia, this is where you're going to find them isn't it? ASB and Aussie State Leagues. Without them first playing A League, its going to be a bit of a punt on whether they are going to do the job for us or not. Look at the Nix examples - success with Manny, Royas, Siggy, Fenton, Boyd, failures with Totori, Pav - probably not an exhaustive list but really the only sure way to tell is to give em a go. Sign them up on a low insentive based contract - if they bomb - gone, if they shine - upgrade contract and keep.

wasn't really lack of ability/potential ability that caused him to bomb for us was it?

I mean if we are talking about ability Pav showed enough to be judged worthy of getting an A league contract over several years at two different clubs.

I'm not cheerleading for Clapham- in fact apart from the last Jordan game- I don't think I've watched him play a full game. But really this does seem like a last throw of the dice in his AW/professional career. Not making the AW squad for this season would suggest he's done. He's getting more good mentions than say Boxall, who I think has looked ok at A league level.

Unless a defender makes a horrible mistake, they don't seem to get many mentions in match reports. But it does seem like Clapham is doing well over in the NSWPL, the question would be can he step up even higher than that.

It also depends who you are up against too. Do you have more chance of success running at a K Muscat or Zwaanswijk or running at a Boxall or Musa. That needs to be remembered

Funny you should mention that, I was just thinking about that. Every time I saw Pav play against Musa (mainly when Musa was in the U20 squad), he was absolutely tearing him apart. Not sure whether that says more about Pav or Musa.
