Watched the game for 70mins, before the commentators mentioned that the final sub was being made and it wasn't Musa.

The two CB's used weren't great, tended to watch and play catch up as Liverpool ran them ragged.

To go from starting the last 6 to not even featuring... injury at a guess. Not good timing if his contract runs out at the end of the month and he still needs to impress.

What does that mean in terms of his future?  Is there an upside to it?

Chance to see how he goes in competitive games. I thought his contract was only until January, so maybe they extended it.

es Mus ON LOAN: James Musa will join Hereford United for a month on loan from his Fulham FC club. PHOTO/FILE

James Musa must have been standing in the offices of his Fulham FC club thinking he was still asleep on the plane as management was talking to him.

Less than 48 hours after talking to the Wanganui Chronicle at his parents' home and mentioning his goal was being loaned out by his Premier League club to get crucial game-time, Musa landed back in London to be told exactly that.

The 20-year-old soccer international would not have even had time to unpack before heading off again to the River Wye, near the border of Wales.

Fulham have used the transfer window of January to lend their Under-21 team prospect to Hereford United FC, who play in the Conference National league.

In an interview given to one of the club's supporter's websites Bulls News Hereford United chairman David Keyte confirmed on New Year's Day that Musa was on his way.

"He's from Fulham and he's coming in initially for a month.

"He's a left-sided defender, James Musa, a Kiwi. He's only a young lad.

"We've got so many games stacking up and Martin [Foyle] is keen to have enough cover."

Musa's mother, Mandy Musa, said while the level of competition was lower than Premier League, it would still be a hard challenge for her son.

Having just found his feet and acclimatised in the Fulham environment, thanks to forming a bond with his teammates, he now had to start again fresh straight on to the field as well.

Even coming from England herself, Mrs Musa was not familiar with Hereford, so could only imagine how her New Zealand-raised son would handle it.

"We knew that [loan] was on the cards and we were just waiting for James to call us.

"I think he was a bit shocked when he got back and was told he was going to Hereford.

"A month's loan is good for him and he's just got to be professional and see it through.

"It's more about him getting game time so he can strengthen. This is his opportunity to prove he can play week in, week out."

While it is true the Conference National league is some way down the English football league system fifth-highest behind Premier, Football League Championship and the Football League's 1-2 after eight matches in the last three months at Fulham it is still a good grounding for the Musa to really cut his teeth in the game over there.

Hereford FC, the "Bulls", were relegated from League Two in the 2011/12 season and are looking to climb up the ranks from their current competition, a mixture of both full and semi-professional clubs. On New Year's Day, Hereford earned their first win over the Kidderminster Harriers since 1998 beating them 1-0 away at Aggborough stadium.

Musa will also do well to pick the brain of Hereford's manager Martin Foyle, who played 533 league games in his 20-year career. Mirroring Musa's situation, Foyle started as a trainee for a glamour Premier League club, Southampton, and was loaned out twice in his four years there.

He later played for league clubs such as Aldershot and Oxford University before becoming a record signing with Port Vale, who paid £375,000 for him in 1991.

Foyle stayed with Port Vale for his remaining nine years as a player, collecting a post-WWII club record of 107 goals.

They could have just terminated his deal/not renewed it? This must be a positive sign, if they have chosen to keep him?

Good point. I hope it works out for him. He may not be Nix quality, but he might just scrape by one day in the EPL. ;)

Hereford is just up the road from me, might try and get up there for a Tuesday night game and compare his current form to how he played in the Olympics and for the Nix.

Another 80 minutes for Musa in a 3 - 3 draw.

Not sure where he played though. Hereford coughed up a two goal lead by letting in two soft goals, poor marking off a long throw and keepers error.

Shame about this illness thing because the lad was doing okay and appearing regularly for Hereford.

Glandular fever apparently. He'd be quarantined from other players and convalescing for some weeks:

Medical Dictionary: "As glandular fever is caused by a virus there is no specific treatment and antibiotics are of no benefit. It is considered to be a self-limiting infection which resolves with time.  Getting plenty of rest and drinking lots of fluid is very important during recovery...

An enlarged spleen can be easily damaged. For this reason it is recommended that strenuous activity and exercise, as well as contact sports, be avoided for at least four weeks after the first symptoms appear, or until the spleen returns to a normal size...
The virus remains in the mouth and throat for some time after a person has recovered. It is estimated that a person remains infectious for up to a year after contracting glandular fever..."

MUSA RETURNS TO FULHAM
By Organic Bull

James Musa has returned to Fulham and it's unlikely he will be seen in a Hereford United shirt again this season.
Musa recently contracted glandular fever and hasn't featured in the last couple of games.

Musa's loan spell had been due to end after the Easter weekend.

MUSA RETURNS TO FULHAM

Left-back James Musa has returned to parent club Fulham due to illness.

The Plymouth-born New Zealand international played in 15 league matches for the Bulls after joining the club on loan from Fulham in January, making his debut on the left side of midfield in a 1-1 draw at Grimsby Town on January 5th.

His loan spell was extended for a third and final month on March 1st, but he has now returned to Craven Cottage.

"We threw James into the deep end a bit, but he's quietly got on and done his job," Bulls boss Martin Foyle told the Official Hereford United Website on March 1st.

Musa suffered defeat in just four of his 15 Hereford games, against Wrexham, Ebbsfleet, Newport and Gateshead, and finished on the winning side on five occasions against Braintree, Lincoln, Cambridge, Stockport and Barrow.

Still in Scotland, Oly Whites defender James Musa is on trial at Hearts as the side look towards their 2013/14 campaign.  Musa is currently on the books at Fulham but spent most of this season on loan at National Conference side Hereford United.

Nothing conclusive from Musa's trial at Hearts at this stage:

http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/spl/gary-locke-wants-fresh-faces-at-hearts-1-2927058

"Fulham defender James Musa and Arsenal midfielder Josh Rees trained with Hearts last week and have now returned to their respective clubs. Locke revealed today that he intends to bring more players in on trial after spending several weeks scouting heavily in England.

“There might be another one or possibly two trialists arriving this week,” he told the Evening News. “I’d rather not discuss names at the moment. We’re looking all over the place at the minute because we want to bring a bit of freshness to the club. That would stand us in good stead for next season.”

On Musa and Rees, he continued: “They trained for a week and now they’ve gone home. I think it’s important at this stage of the season to have ?trialists coming in and get a wee look at players. A lot of clubs are in the same position as ?ourselves. We’re working very hard behind the scenes so ?hopefully we can get one or two new faces in.”

Released by Fulham, hope his trial at Hearts goes well. However the club have many other issues going on at the moment.

Whilst I know this will incur the disapproval of all the football heavies on here, I wouldn't mind him getting a run with us again.

Admittedly this is based purely on what I saw in the Jordan game but jeez he looked like a different player compared to his earlier stint.

Whether or not he would be keen is another story

The time he was here he was young and behind siggy and dura who were in great form. He'd definitely be welcome back if he hasn't moved on to bigger things.

He never really got a real go - he was chucked in the deep end at left back (which obviously isn't his position)

He looks to have filled out a lot. I would not be adverse to him coming back to cover both CB and LB (being left footed) but he is behind Boxall in the pecking order

I don't think if the owners decide to run with a slim squad of 20 once more that we can afford to have four centre backs. Saying that if manny plays at right back and assuming that no Ausi/Kiwi of any quality is signed for the holding midfield role, perhaps Ernie may follow rickis lead and play Durante in midfield. Personally I have always been a big Musa fan and I hope he lands on his feet at a pro club somewhere

I agree with you Hamezilla, he seemed to run and move a lot like Winston Reid, arms at side, chest up and moving the attacker where he wanted them to go. I was also impressed with what I saw of him. Maybe worth another shot with Ricki gone
