Chicago were scheduled to play in a few days against Nashville, so Collier could have been the first Kiwi in action stateside.

But game postponed as 5 Nashville players return positive test for Covid.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/07/07/nashville-sc-vs-chicago-fire-fc-game-postponed-two-other-mls-back-tournament-games

Also FC Dallas has withdrawn from the MLS Orlando tourney completely, with 10 positive tests in their squad..

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/07/06/fc-dallas-withdrawn-mls-back-tournament

Sporting KC (Reid) v Minnestota (Boxall, Musa & Billingsley) this weekend is now first game likely to have a Kiwi involvement.

But yeah whole tourney could end up being canned.

MLS comp is underway as Orlando beat Beckham's Inter Miami 2-1.

Be interesting to see if they can keep it going, given FC Dallas have already pulled out and Nashville with a number of players tested positive.

Obviously toasty warm in Orlando in summer, and see there is a smattering of games with early morning kick offs scheduled for this tourney.

Comes on at 61 mins in a 3-0 loss at Columbus. Fire down 1-0 when he came on.

Beautiful technique the 2nd goal.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/08/20/highlights-columbus-crew-sc-vs-chicago-fire-fc-august-20-2020?autoplay=true

Columbus were one of the form teams in the Orlando tourney, losing on pens to Minnesota in the last 16, after 3 wins in pool play.

Collier could be one to keep an eye on during the remainder of the MLS season.

He is under contract with Chicago for 2020, with options for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Typically American.

But if it doesn't really work for him this MLS season (limited minutes), he maybe looking for a move. Doubt he would want to go back to the USL.

And who knows the Nix may need a host of new signings up front, for the start of season 2020/2021. MSL regular season to finish November.

I guess fact he now has his Green Card (so treated as a local) will also come into any future decision on staying Stateside, if it comes to that.

Subbed on in 62nd min in a 0-0 draw at Cincinnati.

Features nicely a couple of times in the highlights, including a well worked cut back assist for a goal that is unfortunately ruled out for a hand ball in the lead up.

Fire are struggling being 13th of 14th teams in Eastern Conference, but from short match highlights last few weeks, Collier has looked impressive coming off the bench.

New England with a 2-1 win.

Same score when Collier subbed off at 69 mins.

Had a header saved by the keeper, really he had a bit of time to better direct it. But good to see him get a start. Bit of bad luck with both goals that Chicago conceded.

Back to the bench as last placed Chicago, host Eastern Conference leaders Columbus, at the cavernous Soldier Field.

But comes on early at 22nd minute, replacing injured goal scorer Mihailovic. Fire 2-0 up after only 14 mins.

Finishes 2-2. 2nd Columbus goal lucky. Chicago definitely not getting rub of the green, the last few weeks.

Collier (no 28) has a deflected shot saved, and later with some clever footwork sets up a perfect assist, but somehow his team mate butchers an almost open goal by shooting straight at the keeper.

Prepare for some grating commentary.

really happy to see his recent development - went from being a bit of a meme player that Fire fans weren't too happy to see on the teamsheet, to being one of the only guys on the team willing to play with heart and take people on 1v1. Seems to quickly be endearing himself

Agree. He plays with confidence and is exciting to watch on the ball. He's been unlucky to not score a few this MLS season..

Chicago's rotten luck continues. 2 goals ruled out by VAR, and a pen saved all before Collier was subbed at 65 mins!

The 4th goal they conceded was at 95 mins. So alot closer it seems than the 4-1 scoreline. Orlando keeper Gallese (Peru keeper against AWs a few years ago) with some big saves.

He has a late chance to grab a winner but his header, smashes back off the upright. Lots of promising cameos but still not that goal this MLS season.

Fire stay 10th in the East, which is good enough for the last playoff spot, with 2 regular season games still to go.

On the bench as Chicago host New York City (5th in the East).

Last regular season game and Fire currently sit 10th in the East, last playoff spot.

But they have 3 teams below them (Atlanta, Inter Miami & DC United) only 1-2 points behind, so likely will need a win/draw to make it through to the playoffs - as at least one of 3 teams below is likely to grab some points in their last game.

All 14 teams in the East are kicking off at the same time in this last round. Later today all 12 MLS teams in the West kick off at the same time.

Unfortunately New York score soon after for a 4-3 win.

Fire miss out of the playoffs, as Inter Miami with a 2-1 win over bottom Cincinnati leap over Chicago to grab the 10th & final playoff spot.

From this week’s Flying Kiwis

Chicago Fire
: “The Fire exercised the 2021 contract options on the following four players: forward Elliot Collier, midfielder Djordje Mihailović, defender Wyatt Omsberg and defender Nicholas Slonina.”

The Fire didn’t make the playoffs, missing out in agonising fashion, but at least that means Collier’s future is sorted a little quicker. Collier will be back in the MLS next year as the club have picked up his contract option. Plenty more mazy runs and lanky sprints where that came from.

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

"Meanwhile Elliot Collier, who also has a goal in preseason, is expected to miss some time for the Chicago Fire thanks to an ankle injury picked up in the most recent friendly. He’s one of a number of Fire attackers out injured at the moment though appears to be the least serious of the knocks. Fingers crossed."

Rare start in a 0-2 loss to Philadelphia Union (10th). Subbed off at 57 mins (score 0-1). Collier's first MLS start since September last year (he had 2 starts last season).

From memory in Flying Kiwis last week, it was mentioned Chicago seem a pretty average MLS side (2nd last in Eastern Conference already), so hopefully he can get a run of starts and a goal. His goal on debut a few years ago, remains his only MLS goal from 39 MLS appearances (12 starts).

You won't learn anything about he's going from match highlights!
