Wonder where Wynne is at with Colorado. 5 times on the bench over this interrupted MLS season, but no mins.

Last in a Rapids match day squad, a month ago at the Orlando tourney.

Of course is almost certain Nix will very soon be needing a new LB!

Only problem with that is that his contract expires 31st of December. Though we'll get a fee for Cacace...

If he's on the outer at Colorado in a month or so (no idea if he is now or not), maybe he can negotiate an early release.

2 other factors also come to mind - is he pursing a Green Card (or does he already have one?) like so many other Kiwis in the MLS/USL, and his younger brother is now at College in Denver.

Rapids verus Dallas game postponed. US sporting codes all making a BLM statement.

Wynne was not named in Colorado's match day squad. I can find no mention of him being currently injured, so maybe is just on the outer. One to watch with his contract finishing late this year.

Mystery man Wynne returns to a Colorado match day squad.

Unused sub as Rapids (10th) draw 1-1 with San Jose (11th & 2nd last). Battle of Western Conference strugglers.

Shades of park football with the car toot to celebrate a goal.

Back on the outer again?

Not in match day squad as Rapids lose 0-1 at home to Houston.

Colorado 10th (3rd last) in the West.

With his contract finishing later this year, maybe Wynne needs to ring that club in NZ needing a new LB.

Not in match day squad as Rapids have a big 5-0 win, away to Real Salt Lake.

RSL with player sent off at 64 mins, but they were already 4-0 down at that point.

Win takes Colorado up to 9th in the Western Conference. RSL 7th.

Mystery man Wynne still absent from Colorado match day squads.

Rapids beat Seattle 3-1.

Socceroo Brad Smith subbed on at 64 mins for the Sounders.

Colorado now listed as 7th in the West (play off spot), with 2 regular season games left.

On actual points they would only sit 10th at best, but seems MLS is now operating a sort of pro rata ranking system to complete the season, as teams like Rapids have missed so many games due to Covid post postponements/cancellations.

Rapids have only played 16 games (will finish with 18 regular season games). All other teams in the West will likely complete 20-23 games.

Colorado (7th in the West) travel to Houston Dynamo (12th, last and out of the playoff hunt).

Neither Wynne (Rapids) or Kyle Adams (Houston) in the respective match day squads.

Between the 2 of them they have played exactly zero MLS minutes this year.

Wynne (25 years old) did make a few Rapids match day squads early on, and of course Adams (23 years) featured for USL affiliate side Rio Grande Valley.

Either would be a handy LB/CB pickup for the Nix.

Think Wynne is the most likely to be moving on somewhere. Maybe into Europe to join his younger bro.

2-1 win to Colorado and they finish 5th in the West. Looks like a Conference QF at Minnesota??

Probably a good thing Denver (Mile High City) not hosting a late November playoff game, given snowy scenes today in Salt Lake.

MLS playoffs in 2 weeks after the FIFA International break. So pity that England-All Whites game didn't happen. MLS contingent would have been available IF they could travel in & out of the UK freely (probably not)

Looks like MLS has some type of 'roster freeze' in place until next Monday (Dec 13th US time).

https://www.coloradorapids.com/post/2020/11/12/202...

Probably explains why has yet to be any update on Wynne's status at the Rapids. Given he didn't play a minute all of 2020, it would be a shock to see him stay in Denver. Off contract from memory now.

Would be handy pickup for the Nix. Maybe that's why they haven't tried to sign a visa CB/LB?  Optimistic view!

Confirmed now as a free agent. So leaves 4 Kiwis at MLS clubs in 2021 (Billingsley, Boxall, Tuiloma and Collier), Reid a maybe if SKC and Hammers can work out a new loan deal, and 3 cut loose - Wynne, Musa and Adams.

https://www.coloradorapids.com/post/2020/12/14/col...

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Colorado Rapids announced today several roster updates ahead of the 2021 Major League Soccer season. As much as it would be good to see another Kiwi in the mix in the A-League (Nix or otherwise) I think he just has to focus on getting some game time. Last played a competitive fixture in June 2019...

Maybe a drop down to the USL or pop over the border and look for a gig in the Canadian Premier League?

Too good for either of those leagues, though yes he just needs to be playing now.

Not much idea of his recent form or fitness, but 3 years ago he was the starting LB against Peru in 2 huge games with lots of pressure, and he looked okay. And yes I think he would be a handy pickup for the Nix as only McGarry is a specialist LB, plus Wynne would also be useful CB cover.

But suspect he’s looking to Europe. Younger bro Ronan is the Danish 3rd tier. Surely Deklan would go alright in their 2nd tier or above, if fit.

Would have thought he was better than USL level.

But I guess now he just needs to be playing. I don't think he played a minute for Rapids in 2020. Rising are one of the bigger clubs in the  USL.

Plus with Covid travel restrictions, probably a bit tricky to get to Europe (his little bro is in Denmark) for trials if that was ever on his radar.

Imagine getting a Green Card (if he doesn't already have one) is a goal now as well.

He might slip down the AW left back peaking order now, being out of the MLS. The backup role to Cacace is pretty open. Mcgarry, Wynne, maybe Dan Morgan. Mcgarry's to lock in you'd think, if he has a good A League season.

But again Wynne just needs to be playing regularly now.

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

"The USL signings are coming thick and fast now. Max Mata, then Kyle Adams, now Deklan Wynne (good chance of more to come too). Wynne initially signed with the Vancouver Whitecaps back in 2015 but only ever played for their reserve team in the USL outside of one Canadian Cup game in 2017. He seemed to be close to breaking through in the 2018 season but that was when Anthony Hudson took over the Colorado Rapids and swiftly moved to trade for Wynne.

There he played all across the backline, logging 36 MLS appearances – the same amount as another All Whites left back in Tony Lochhead – but a broken foot in 2019 held him back and then Uncle Tony got the sack and Wynne spent the entirety of 2020 on the periphery. Seven times he made the bench but never did he get out on the park. The last time he played a proper game was June 2019 so no surprises that he wasn’t re-signed when his contract expired and no surprises that he was happy to get the hell outta there.

Phoenix Rising is generally one of the top USL sides. James Musa played there for a couple years as they competed for championships and while this does mean a drop in tiers for Dekkers, it also much more importantly means he’ll be able to get back to the business of playing football. Fella played 35 times in the USL for VW2 too so he knows the league well. His signing was pretty immediately welcomed by fans too... seems they’ve been desperate for a left-back.

Rising head coach Rick Schantz: “Deklan is an experienced international left back who will definitely help our team. He is very versatile and has a high soccer IQ. Deklan’s defending, coupled with his quality on the ball will fit perfectly with our style of play.”

Deklan Wynne: “Obviously being left-footed, being at left back or left centre back, I feel really comfortable on the ball and playing out, especially at left back. Most of my career in Colorado I played centre back so that really got me used to playing different positions at the back. Obviously right back is a lot similar to left back but obviously my right foot isn’t as strong as my left. So that’s something I had to adapt to but I think I’m pretty comfortable playing all four positions — even in a back three, which I did quite a lot at Colorado the last couple years.”

Up Next: Still a wait and see prospect as to when the USL might begin"

The mystery man turns up on the bench for Phoenix Rising! Nice surprise.
Unused sub as the Rising (1st Western Conference Pacific) come back from 0-2 down at the 90th minute, to snatch 2 very late goals in a 2-2 draw against San Diego Loyal (7th same Conference).

Full game Musa. No Billingsley in match day squad for Phoenix, nor Hunter Ashworth for San Diego.

2 years since Wynne last played in a competitive match (June 2019 in MLS with Colorado), but hopefully gets some minutes for Phoenix soon. Hasn't played for the AWs since those Peru games in 2017. Still only 26.

Could there be a place for him in Wellington? Sutton and McGarry have been an excellent duo but it could allow Sutton to return to attacking mid, unless he’s become settled on LB that is.

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

"It’s now been two years since Wynne last played a proper club game – when he broke his foot for Colorado Rapids in June 2019. That injury only kept him out for a fraction of that time but he fell out of favour in Colorado and hadn’t been included yet this year down in the USL. Turns out it’s not even an injury thing – they just wanted more versatile options on the bench. Which, like, don’t tell Anthony Hudson. Huddo used Wynne all across the backline while he was the Rapids coach. He certainly didn’t see him as an inflexible left back. But getting back onto that bench this week means he’ll hopefully get to break his appearance drought soon.

Phoenix Rising coach Rick Schantz, a couple weeks ago: “For Deklan, he’s a specialist. Right now, Ryan Flood is playing very well, and I can’t take anything away from Ryan. His learning curve has been so steep and I’m very proud of him. I told Deklan he’s just got to fight for it and compete.”

Good on him for sticking at it. As a professional footballer, and being afforded zero playing time for two years must be extremely disheartening. Hopefully he makes every post a winner in the heart of tornado alley. Still only 26 too - thought he was 28-29.
