Dan Morgan and Maritzburg part ways
https://www.kickoff.com/news/articles/south-africa-news/categories/news/premiership/morgan-parts-ways-with-maritzburg-united/700228

I'm surprised but looking at it now maybe not so much. There are consequences to being in a relegation battle and the financial hit from covid has not been easy on clubs. Dan's age (30) had a lot to do with it. Maritzburg United fans were really surprised that they released Miguel Timm (29) at the beginning of the season. The talented midfielder was ever-present in the United first team. He signed for TTM fc and was instrumental in them winning the Nedbank Cup and surviving the relegation battle.  The success of teams with younger squads (average age 25 and less) in the PSL has been amazing. Over the last few years teams have given a lot more opportunities to reserve league players and have found success especially Golden Arrows, Supersport United, TS Galaxy etc. Maritzburg has had success with Hlongwane (20), maybe they looking to move in that direction.

I'm sure he will find a club in the DSTV Premiership with that sweet left foot. He has done really well over the last 2 seasons. If McGarry heads back to Europe maybe theres an opening. What you think?

Danke for the South African football updates Saffa. Some stuff in there that I'm sure most of us knew very little about, though still feel you are rating the standard of the PSL too high.

Out of interest what sort of money was Morgan likely to be on, at AmaZulu? I guess if Mcgarry did leave for Europe, Nix could look at Morgan.

Thanks Coochiee. With regards to the PSL all I can do is show the evidence. All the actions are being taken by the European Clubs not me. It's that European coach who is saying, I need that player and he is going to be in my 1st team. We can all say but, but, but because our bias tells us so. It's not a knock we all have bias. But evidence is evidence and when it's continuously happening that's fact.

We all agree that EU teams can play as many EU players in their teams. FACT. PSL teams can only play 3 international players per game. So EU teams have a structural advantage. FACT

When a club buys a player and that player isn't ready for that level they loan him to a lower division like Sarpreet Singh. Bundesliga tough, creaking into Bayern is extremely tough. But when a new player is brought into a club and is ready, he plays. What is it saying about that player and his football pedigree.

Look at our bias below in a simple flow chart:

Ligue1 player > Premier League = top player, superstar
Eredivisie player > Ligue 1 team = Great, no problem, will do well
South African PSL > Ligue 1 team = fluke, will never make it, cheap

And yet there is evidence. Yes I know but, but, but, but

What Kiwi's should be asking is HOW. That is a lot me interesting topic.

PSL don't publish player salaries. Dan Morgan salary range could be about NZ$5000 - NZ$15500 per month. When the press do release a players salary because he has a dispute with the club, I'm always shocked at how much they get paid. It's always ridiculously high.

Saffa - no news on Morgan being signed up another PSL club?

See that pre season 8 Cup starts this weekend.

Hopefully De Jong can get some game time at AmaZulu. Looks like CAF Champions League has been cancelled?? Pandemic related no doubt.

Well Brockie who also left the PSL has landed at an even lower level in Aus (Nth NSW NPL) and they are both the wrong side of 30. Morgan about to turn 31.

Though Brocks (34) did cancel a higher level Victoria NPL gig.
