Hey the Philly franchise is releasing the name colours and kit this week. Ay ideas... I hope its not another red white and blue kit. Enough of them in the MLS already....

Just checked out the new stadium being built for the Philadelphia Union.

Looks fantastic, seating for 18,500 ad right by the river. I like how these new soccer stadiums in the states (except the sounders stadium) are smaller grounds and designed for soccer, must have great atmosphere.

Got a black Sounders shirt from the USL1 days and met a kiwi guy who works in the "new" Sounders Marketing back here - he sent me the new shirt - quality

Awesome wont be many Sounders shirts in NZ.
I hope jarrod Smith gets a run with the All Whites, then the sounders may take him off the injured list and play him. The Sounders need a win to get of thier recent streak of draws.

TFC second in the east at the mo...not doing too well for the Canadian Championship though. Need to win by at least four goals to win it.

I'm watching DC v Columbus at the moment and in the crowd there is a large home-made banner with a big yellow kiwi on it. Anyone know the story behind that?
Edit: Just answered my own question
I didn't realise Duncan was so popular there

Except he wasn't playing today. Their fans are pretty hardcore, as far as Americans go.

was a good game... happy my Sounders are on form at the right end of the season.
I have to say the red card send off was a bit sad as the DC keeper was the only guy keeping them in the game.

This thread's been dead for a while.
Currently watching the NY Red Bulls final game at Giant Stadium v Toronto, Bulls up 2 nil. It's a swimming pool! Been pissing down all day.
Boyens got a nice rap from the commentary team saying he had "really come along nicely during the season" , "was even in with a goood chance to go to S.A" & even mentioned the game on Nov 14.

I am stoked the SOunders made the second round of the playoffs. Great year for the 'new' club. Shows how you can do things right in an expansion team.

Looking forward to the NW road trips when the sounders play the Whitecaps and the Timbers.

I am a bit worried that the continual expansion will keep watering the league down. Dont want to have 32-40 teams like the NHL,NBA,NFL&MLB.

Whitecaps will be interesting. Rumour has it they won't be playing in USL1 next year. That could give Portland the advantage when they get "promoted" to MLS.

Agree on the expansion, I'd say 20 max. Going any further would also prevent MLS from ditching the conference system, which IMO should have been gone a long time ago.

Although my TFC are out of the playoffs, I'm supporting the Galaxy - only cause I've been to a game at Home Depot and have family there.  But I wouldn't mind if Chicago take it out cause Obama is from there!

Yeah, Barry Soetoro is from here . . . but we don't want to be associated with him, look what he did for the Chicago Olympic bid.

He loves this banner BTW.

Guess someone didn't like the Obama banner . . . free speech is tough sh*t sometimes.

Adios to the pantywaist who has an eggshell skin and can't believe someone would have anything bad to say about the weakest POS leader my country has had since Carter.

Good luck during the World Cup to everyone else here.

Looks who does it again in PK's after 120 minutes of play . . .

Real Salt Lake beat the top two teams in the Eastern Conference to get to MLS Cup and then beat the top team in the Western Conference to win the championship.

RSL earned their title for sure.

Latest on MLS labour dispute

It's a fairly good write-up, although some of the editorialising seems to have been written on Mars.  Such as:

for the rest of America, the thinking surely goes something like this:

Lockout? Strike? In pro soccer? And in this economic climate? These guys can't be serious.

Needless to say, for the rest of America, strikes and lockouts are very much part of the economic climate!  Note also the remarks about sinister 'outside interests' and the efforts to keep them out by holding secret talks.  (That's a long established code for the union negotiating behind the backs of its membership.)

It should be stated firmly that the players' are perfectly entitled to employ their right to strike in pursuit of a fair contract.  The financial situation of MLS is entirely the responsibility of its owners and directors - that is to say, the people who have made the decisions about its development. If the heads of MLS continue to issue the threat of the game failing, the players ought to respond by saying, "Well, then, let us organise the League!"
