Was pretty interesting if not exactly surprising Australia crashing out of the Asian Cup. Local (Aus) media are ripping them to shreds for not having decent strikers in the squad. They already had to resort to penalties to advance against Uzbekistan, and could not score against the mighty UAE and went down to a goal due to a pisspoor backpass to the keeper being intercepted. Expected more from Arnie to be honest.

Don't think Arnie coached Degenek to make that terrible back pass.

Socceroos goal scoring problems go way back, pre Arnold.

Some stat like when Cahill & Jedinak retired, they had scored basically 50% of Australia's goals for last 10 years or something. Neither was a striker.

Robbie Kruse has 5 goals in 75 appearances. Considering he burst onto the scenes with Victory as a goal scorer, he's been disappointing, at international level.

Mat Leckie a bit better with 9 goals in 61 games.

They would love to have the Woodsman.

Surprising they did not call up Troisi or even Goodwin seeing that Mooy was injured (OK so Mooy is not a striker), but Arzani was also out.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I know the U20 WC is on, and yes NZF are short of cash/resources - but still seems another lost opportunity for the AWs not to play Socceroos as their 2nd game in this window.

Marinovic, M Boxall, Tuiloma, Wynne, Smith, Lewis, Rufer, Ridenton, Rojas, Barba, Wood is still a very useful starting eleven.

bench - Sail, Kyle Adams, Roux, Brotherton, Payne, Mcgarry, Musa, WeeMac, de Jong, Brockie, Collier

water boys - Thomas & Reid

Being a FIFA window MLS clubs would be forced to release their NZ players. Just one game, and at the moment MLS clubs with Kiwis get a free ride re FIFA windows. They could have no real complaints.

Lewis, Rojas & Brockie have all just come off light club seasons. Of non A League guys, only Wood you could agrue needs a rest.

Being Australia, and being so long since we played them even the Woodsman I'm thinking would have been keen.

Alas. Sigh

Honestly think our  David Williams should be there rather than those other Williams fellas (well, at least Ryan - they need more cover upfront).

And the Socceroos B team lose 1-0. By the sounds of it, no one put their hands up to replace any of the normal players.

Oz were better team throughout, created more chances. Redmayne could have perhaps done better from the deflected cross.

Yeah seems was usual complaints that they lack a proven goal scorer. Mitch Duke did hit cross bar with a header.

Wow. That is big.  It will cost them a bit to attend, but in terms of testing yourself against top class opposition - priceless. Copa America is brutal, unlike Euro qualifiers, as there are very few "poor quality" teams.
