Kicks off in Ghana next month. Egypt are the defending champions.
In all likelihood won't be on TV here (despite the excellent quality of football on offer ), but we should hopefully get the highlights on EUROSPORT news (in the mornings on Sky Sport 3) and CNN World Sport.

Group A

Ghana
Namibia
Guinea
Morocco

Group B

Nigeria
Benin
Mali
Ivory Coast

Group C

Egypt
Sudan
Zambia
Cameroon

Group D

Tunisia
Angola
South Africa
Senegal

Group B is easily the group of death, and group D looks pretty tough too. The favourites for the title will be the likes of Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon, while Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco should also not be underestimated. Mali and Guinea could both potentially be quite good, although Mali is in a very tough group. el grapadura2007-12-06 17:43:37

Ghana will win it.  Nigeria? Mmm... hard for me not to champion them when they may well field THREE Evertonians.... but NO, c'mon Ghana.

Guinea will get to semis. (and before you know who says anything - Yes I want to be banned I want to be banned is a Guinean international!!)

Morocco will fail!

I agree Ghana are a good bet but every time there is a surprise team that gets through to the final stages. Who will it be this time?

Inconvenient(sp?) timing really. Toure will be missed and with the injuries we have right now so will Eboue. Just glad Togo didn't make it.

Egypt 4 Cameroon 2

Two goals each from Mohamed Zidan and Hosni Abd Rabou gave Egypt a fine start in their defence of the Nations Cup.

Yep, two stunning long range goals from Egypt. Eto'o scored for Cameroon, but not enough for Indomitable Lions.

It was Eto's 13th Nations Cup goal, leaving him just one behind the record held by Laurent Pokou of the Ivory Coast.<!-- E BO -->

Oh YES!!!

Purely as FYI: My friend Brian, in New York, comments "good result for Guinea but feindouno's straight red probably kills their chance of winning the quarterfinal... esp. since it'll probably be vs Cote d'Ivoire." Brian was involved with a Guinean second division title winning team Niandan FC in 1996.

He says "I was their fourth string goalkeeper (ie: translator for the Liberian players"

Highlights: http://www.footytube.com/category/videos/african-cup-of-nations-2008/

Ghana haven't looked the goods and could run into trouble with Morocco. If Morocco and Guinea get a win, Ghana could be out on goal difference as they didn't cash in on Namibia. Stoked about Namibia's performance.

Was happy to see South Africa at least get a point out of the Angola game, by all accounts it sounds like they are playing a nice fluid attacking game, hopefully bodes well for the future, and just lacking penetration up front. Not sure on the logic in not picking Benni. GO BAFANA BAFANA!!

Also would like to see Zambia do well and get into the quarters, hopefully over Cameroon.

Some cracking goals so far

Benin's coach and match fixing.
"I stand by what I've said and I will give Caf the name and number of the person who offered the bribe. That's all I can do."

( If Nigeria carry on like this Everton get Aiyegbeni and Yobo back eariler...)

It is out of their hands though - a point for Mali in the last game, and the Super Eagles are out. That'd be sad to see, but I'd also like to see Mali do well so I'm kind of torn.

FULL-TIME Senegal 1-3 Angola
A great win for Angola. It's only their second ever victory at the Africa Nations Cup and it's fully deserved. I suppose you could say that was your typical game of two halves.

Senegal were the better side in the first period and went in 1-0 up, but cue Manucho and Angola's fight back after the break.

2119: FULL-TIME Tunisia 3-1 South Africa
Tunisia really did the damage in the first half with those three goals. Better performance from the South Africans in the second-half but they were lacking a bit of spark upfront and never really looked like getting themselves back into it.

Well that sucks. South Africa need to a big win against Senegal now and hope that Angola or Tunisia loose by 2 or more. Highly unlikely when Angola and Tunisia just need to draw their game to guarantee qualification.

Is anyone getting coverage of these games, I am so far relying on highlights on youtube/footytube.

Today's results:
1851: Full-time Ghana 2-0 Morocco
With seconds left Youssef Hadji finally forced a save from Richard Kingston in the Ghana goal.

But you have to say this match was all about Ghana, who have won all three of their group games. If they were disappointing in their first two games they were superb today and fully deserved their win. Could they respond to the pressure? Look at the scoreline.

1850: Full-time Guinea 1-1 Namibia
With Morocco losing, the draw is enough for Guinea to reach the last eight for the third successive tournament.
