Can't we just get along and at least all agree on the fact that Malcomson is a clown.

Yes agreed he is a clown. The Project tossers are anti football. Since The World Cup  commenced they have been taking every opportunity to rubbish Football in the same way that we have come to expect from Rugby Heads who hate the fact that Rugby is only World famous in NZ.

Shows like The Project are good examples of how prime time NZ TV has been dumbed down to the point it is nothing more than tabloid journalism; where TV presenters are no longer interested in presenting concise, objective news, but instead treat news as entertainment and the chance to share deliberately moronic opinions in the hope of boosting ratings and personal fame.

Off topic guys, please take it too another thread so we can keep this one about the Knockout rounds now.

Well, it's gunna be France or Brazil isn't it, so ya bucket of vindaloo aint gunna do.

As good as Rashford or any of the England attack are there is nothing with the pace and genius that we've seen from Mbappe and co. so far. Not saying I wouldn't like to see some golden football from them, but it's just that they are far from peaking at the moment.

Kane is reliable and metronomic, but only as good as the service he gets, which at the moment is tepid.

Think your boy Sterling is a bit like Michael Campbell in golf for NZ- he doesn't always show up, but he is capable of doing something a step above when he does.

Which amounts to : we were fine, the ref is a crook.

No one asked him a follow up question regarding why 6 different players got yellows, and why no one player committed 2 bookable offences, but a spate of different players committed one each?

This behaviour is tolerated by the Columbian management and Columbian football.

That's the difference.

Seems like you have accurately described exactly how english management and the english fans have tolerated their teams behaviour too. Confirmation bias is alive and well.

Literally no one is claiming England were worse in those stakes but they certainly contributed their fair share to making that an embarrassing advertisement for the sport on the world stage. You don't have to go far to find neutrals that were well and truly turned off by that display from both teams.

England are through though and fingers crossed they can show off something better in the next round.

As a Dutch citizen, I couldn't care that much for England.

Nothing England "did" is even on a comparable scale to the Columbian assistant's action.

Ref for Eng v Sweden is Dutch. Bjorn Kuisters. Start caring.

Edit: Kuipers.

England have no midfield creativity whatsoever. The only player who could be described as creative at all is Alli and he has either been sharke or injured all tournament.

What England have is a striker who is scoring nearly every chance he gets on current form, a defence that is calm on the ball and capable of bringing it out from the back, and a huge threat from attacking set pieces. Put those things together and you have a decent tournament team.

We all know France, Brazil and Belgium have far more talented sides. No sane English fan would disagree either. That doesn't mean one of them is nailed on to win it though. Remember Portugal two years ago?

TBF most of us English I suspect are just happy to have progressed this far - anything else is icing on the cake.

I like Sweden, not the greatest but really well organised and absorbed the Swiss attack well. I was impressed by Forsberg and was surprised when the took him off as he was a real handful.

I think they also have a really good defensive set up. Have a look at how many layers the opposition have to get through to break them down. Keeping 3 back plus one in front has made them less susceptible to counter attacks too

Exactly. I really don't get the England hate fest on here; England have never been one of the tournaments favourites (no disrespect to England) so getting past Colombia was a pretty good achievement and had it been any other side that had won through I doubt the hate fest would have kicked in.

How many of you love watching the Premier League and/or follow an English team even though you are kiwi's?

So why the hate for England? Honestly it seems to be bordering on pathological. Curious stuff.

Very odd as my wife, (Kiwi), who supports England as she lived there was blown away by some of the hatred aimed at the English particularly by one of the mods.

Half the YF have some form of English connection and It wouldn't have existed without English expats supporting the Nix.

But the site has had an odd way of moderating things these days.

Not a fan of England at all but that dosnt make me a hater.Just because someone in my past came from there is no reason to support them. Think some of you may be misinterpreting some of the comments and confusing a dislike for a team to someones annoyance or dislike of another poster. The overreaction from some English fans to their teams progression really dosnt match what the team has done or the football they have played.

Good on them for getting this far but its certainly not an exciting watch.

Like some of the play in the world cup bit to much playing the man going on in this thread with some shoddy refereeing.

Not convinced they will, but If Sweden go all the way I'll at least have that perverse enjoyment just knowing it will annoy Zlatan, insofar as they will have done it without him.

Nobody is hating on England. Some people (myself included) have commented on England's obvious flaws as a team, and the England fans, while on their post win high, have taken this as hating.

Personally, I would like to see England do well.

But to me that's what makes England fans so endearing, and on a club level as well: they like living it large and they get totally over the top at the slightest glimmer of their team doing well.

Whether its the likes of Rochdale fans going bananas for knocking Leeds out of the FA Cup or England fans going mental because they have made it to the quarter finals, the passion and enthusiasm of English football fans cannot be questioned and if sometimes it seem out of proportion to whats going on on the pitch for me only makes it more enjoyable

In the same way that you're totally allowed to feel that way, others are totally allowed to be annoyed by that out of proportioned state. People can have different opinions on things and thats fine - it doesn't make them a "hater".

funny how this term "hater" is a moveable feast.

Call south american teams a bunch of cheating divers and you're a "hater" slag England off and hey, thats just having an opinion.

Of course people are entitled to different opinions and if in my opinion their opinion is an opinion fueled by some sort of pathological dislike rather than based on  anything tangible, then yes I am going to point it out!

Not sure about others, but here are the tangible reasons why I like watching England lose. Some of these also apply to other teams.

1) I enjoy watching teams have long losing streaks.

2) I enjoy watching teams that get hyped up lose (also see: Belgium)

3) The complete self awareness from some fans, media and pundits, that their team behave impeccably, when there is clear evidence they don't (see diving).

4) You gave us Martin and Hudson.

No see that is the problem the UK does not = England, the UK is England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland. 4 different countries.

I'm Scottish, England are our biggest rivals I want to see them lose and just because they have qualified for the world cup and we didn't again, that doesn't change, we don't magically transfer our allegiance to England, (some do transfer it to those that are playing England.)

We don't hate England, we just want to see them lose - pretty much how most proper English fans want to see us lose and take the mickey as we haven't qualified for 20 years and sing are you Scotland in disguise at teams like Panama!

but there is a general arrogance \ misunderstanding from a lot of English (many who probably don't realise it) and non english (like Kiwis) when they refer to UK \ Britain as England and that does piss a lot of non english british people off

that is completely not what I said. Considering my best mates are all scottish and irish I know the score (raped their children etc).

Point is 99% of OE is in England, and even if it wasn't then it will likely still apply.
