A few players responded badly to a strategy of persistent fouling and niggle.

It quite clearly was Colombias game plan.

Kane seemed to get fouled every time he got the ball.

Are you saying Southgate told the players to go out and foul the Colombian team?

So its unimaginable that England would do it, but the Colombians definitely did?

I'm not saying England premeditated it (I will say that they reacted terribly) but the level of doublethink in that comment is impressive.

No. Read what I said before you break your 5th form English bank for insults.

I don't know where you get that I said it was unimaginable.

I said it was Colombias plan.

I don't think both teams were as bad as each other no. I didnt say England were angelic or fair play winners either, but hey, read what you want. Hating a team is a bias too .

"Are you saying Southgate told the players to go out and foul the Colombian team?" pretty heavily implies you don't think Southgate would do that. You think that Colombia did do that. That's pretty blatant bias showing through - you completely assume that your team is morally superior and refuse to consider another alternative. FWIW I don't think either team planned it and, if you had read what I wrote, you'd see that I think Colombia were worse offenders.

I don't hate England, I supported them over Colombia this morning and I'm glad they won. I also think you'll find that I studied 1984 in 6th form. 5th form was Animal Farm.

I don't think it was anyone's plan. The first 15-20 minutes were actually OK, and it all kicked off around the time of England's free kick about 20 minutes in where there was jostling in the wall, the Colombia head butt, the pathetic dive to get the headbutter sent off, and things then just continued in that vein for the rest of the game and made it almost unwatchable. Neither team covered themselves in glory with their behaviour, but if you think that Colombia were a comic book villain to England's valiant super hero, that's your prerogative, but don't get shocked when people call you out on it.

No it was my opinion based on what I watched that England were haphazard with Maguire, Henderson and Lingard culprits, but it felt to me like the Colombian team seemed to foul more consistently.

It's an opinion based on what I watched.

Avoided 84, but watched Brazil. Now that was a champion looking display

If you look at your anecdote: there was a foul for a free kick and a headbut. What should a headbutee do?

So, you're saying it's OK to simulate to try to get the opposing player sent off? It's OK when one of ours does it, but when that other cheating cody scum does it...

As for the actual response - rely on the officials to officiate the game in accordance with the Laws of the Game.

Absolutely. Colombia were a pack of complete idiots. This sort of behaviour turns football in to a game of cheating and deception and is why I cannot watch the Copa America.

Those scenes after the penalty were bloody disgraceful. Its way past time  FIFA showed some leadership and git stuck into that and Neymars behavior. Its that sort of rubbish that ruining the game and way past time some of these over paid prima donors  were made to pay.

Would love to see a ref have the guts to just walk off after players go at him like the Columbians did. .

We had an ITV stream this morning, and it showed some nobody Columbian assistant coach purposely shoulder barge Sterling when he was jogging back to the changing room. Then attempted to have a go at him.

The 4th official came and tried to sort him out before the Columbian manager turned up and him and the assistant coach had a good chuckle.

This behaviour is tolerated by the Columbian management and Columbian football.

That's the difference.

Seems like you have accurately described exactly how english management and the english fans have tolerated their teams behaviour too. Confirmation bias is alive and well.

Literally no one is claiming England were worse in those stakes but they certainly contributed their fair share to making that an embarrassing advertisement for the sport on the world stage. You don't have to go far to find neutrals that were well and truly turned off by that display from both teams.

England are through though and fingers crossed they can show off something better in the next round.

At the end of the day Colombia played a dirty game and this is nothing new: I watched all their other WC games and they were the same throughout.

Sure Engerland had a few tantys here and there but they were isolated events rather than the norm.

Bye bye Colombia enjoy your flight home! Hopefully Brazil and their hollywood actors join you soon!

Once again, i am an English fan but seemed like a pretty stonewall penalty to me but the way they were carrying on was about the worst I've seen in a long long time.

Ive seen teams complain less after conceding a penalty that in no way should have been.

I seen an argument made, which is perhaps what they were saying, that Kane actually committed a first foul as he drags the torso of the defender downwards, causing the defender to lose his balance.

From the end on replay, you can see the ref not watching the incident at the start and then he turns his head to it half way through to see them both falling to the ground.

Oh yea, fair point. Ill have to watch it again.

They certainbly have been cracking down on the grabbing/holding in the penalty area.

Nothing England "did" is even on a comparable scale to the Columbian assistant's action.

Shows like The Project are good examples of how prime time NZ TV has been dumbed down to the point it is nothing more than tabloid journalism; where TV presenters are no longer interested in presenting concise, objective news, but instead treat news as entertainment and the chance to share deliberately moronic opinions in the hope of boosting ratings and personal fame.
