yeah makes a lot of sense.

club very similar to barca in terms of possession and philosophy with promoting youth.

Also think its unlikely to be a big fail - had he gone to england and not been given enough time then it really could have put a dent in the "pep"brand. Dont think he can really do as much bad in Germany

Agreed. Plus Budesliga/Bayern very strong financially vs Spain at present. Give him a bit of breathing space for couple of years and realistically he needed to move out of Spain, so I think a top move.

Also, the Pep brand does no harm at all for the Bundesliga.

I seem to recall Bayern have a local/German first player 'preference' though; similar to Atletico Bilbao. Can anyone confirm this?

Don't think Bayern operate a local talent preference more than any other club would, from what I recall the clubs in the Bundesligue's were required to build yooooffff Academies and they also have to have at least 10 or so players who are eligible to play for Germany. So, I guess, now you have their top tier having a massive talent pool to draw from for the national team. The rule probably still applies today?

Well done Bayern.

Pity you couldn't do that last year against the Chavs.

Schweinsteiger, Mueller, Kroos, Badstuber, Lahm are all coming from Bayern youth team.

They pre-select kids, teenagers early on in Germany, it's very organized, they scout them sometimes from nursery grade on, watch them over the years. I think it's actually a bit sick. They started the youth development program in early 1990, initiated by the National Coach at the time, Berti Vogts. It takes 10-20 years to have full impact. I guess, we have to be a bit more patient with the Nix Acedemy to produce results. The germans have also the advantage that they just have more players to select from, they play all year, and no one is wasting time for rugby and cricket.

Interesting article on some of the goings on at Bayern, Dortmund and the Bundesliga - sort of behind the euphoric scenes of the Champion League final.Bundesliga simmerings beyond Champions League final

Yeah true, no one in Germany knows about Cricket and Rugby let alone plays it.

The one thing they need to do in NZ is keep some goalposts up during summer so kits can go down to the park and improve

kicking techniques. Noticed that's one big weakness here, missing goalposts for half a year doesn't help.

Also need to build artificial 5 on 5 football courts around major cities.

Very important stuff this, keep kids playing during summer.
