the annual clear out at WHL is well underways. The speculation linking spurs with every player in europe is part of the smoke screen that is modern football management in the off season and also gaurantees paper sales during the off season. Most worrying rumour that Robbie wants to play for scousers why? when u can play UEFA cup again - who needs Champions league!!! ( Rafa's rotation wou ldn't gaurantee he played). Looking forward to seeing Dos Santos running at and bambouslying defences.

Tottenham want Dimitar Berbatov to decide on his future by mid-July.

The Bulgarian striker has been the subject of speculation since the end of the season with Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid linked with him.

Spurs are tiring of the uncertainty, with manager Juande Ramos keen to complete his squad rebuilding plans.

Ramos will want time to sign a successor to Berbatov, 27 - and now Tottenham are ready to act.

Most of the squad report back next month for pre-season and if Berbatov's future is not sorted out by then, Spurs - determined not to be left in limbo - are set to call his bluff and ask him to see out the remaining two years of his contract..

might not have any new info for those spurs fans with their finger on the pulse but this from the "Lancashire Eveneing Post"

>>The Spurs team that could face the chop, and the club they are linked with:

Robinson (Aston Villa), Chimbonda (Pompey and Newcastle), Dawson (Newcastle and Hull), Lee (PSV), Malbranque (Aston Villa), Keane (Liverpool), Boateng (Real Betis), Tainio (Hamburg), Bent (Sunderland) and Ghaley (Blackburn).  <<

I can't argue with any of those except Keane - he's been one of our best for last 3 years. I would feel exceptionally sorry to see Michael Dawson go (mostly for sentimental reasons), as during rough patches (and let's face it, we've had a few) he's rolled up his sleaves, when far more experienced players have disappeared. Clearly dawson was shown up a few times in the last couple of years, but until the signing of Woodgate, and with Ledley a crock, Dawson was in effect our 'senior' defender as all those around him (most much older) were crap. If Hull end up with him, Ed, you should consider your defence vastly improved!

Very interesting to read the bitter Palace camp speak of the Tribunal's valuation of Bostock at 700 K. Does seem rather justified if they knocked back a purported bid from Chelsea for 900 000 when he was 14!     As usual Spurs look to youth, but I can't remember too many coming through that successfully at Spurs to make a huge impact.

I'm not even going to mutter anything about being higher than mid table obscurity...the wins against Chelski feel a long way away...HarryHotspur2008-07-12 19:50:50

you are welcome to mid-table and above, just please stay out of our way in the dogfight - it might not be pretty

if you can't spare Daws ("part two, return of the brother"), perhaps we could have Tainio in-case the Boateng deal falls over !

meanwhile, not long til both hemispheres start their seasons!! - good job, since the end of euro Sky is pretty pointless - almost sucumbed to watching the rugby munters!  - but not quite that bad yet - ha ha

Levy's comments on the Spurs website make it absolutey clear that keane and Berba are wishing to bail. Just hope we get a hatfull of cash for them...jeepers, Bent in the starting xi, perhaps?

It was a bit of a weird statement really. First he says there is no way they are going to sell then says he dosn't want them there because they are disruptive.Would be nice to see them both playing infront of Modric.

From Soccernet.com

Tottenham have lodged an official complaint to the Premier League over the conduct of Manchester United and Liverpool in their pursuit of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane.

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed United have made a bid for Berbatov and eventually expects the deal to go through.

Spurs have also been angered by the comments of Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, who went public last week by revealing the Republic of Ireland captain as a target.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy tonight issued the following statement on his club's official website: 'Today's public comments by Manchester United's manager, announcing that he has made an offer for Dimitar and is confident that the deal will go through with time working in their favour, is a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players. 'It is also probably one of the worst offences by any manager in the Premier League to date and is unbelievably hypocritical given his recent comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid. 'This comes after a series of events, dating back to last summer, which have shown Manchester United to be in breach of Premier League rules. 'As a result, we have today made an official complaint to the Premier League about the conduct of Manchester United.

'Benitez made similar comments in respect of Robbie recently and we made an official complaint to the Premier League about the conduct of Liverpool earlier this week.

'The behaviour of both clubs has been disgraceful. We told both clubs very early on that we had no interest in selling Robbie or Dimitar, respectively, and that they should refrain from pursuing the player.

'Both clubs arrogantly chose to ignore this request and we now have evidence that both clubs have systematically been working to prise the players away from us, outside of Premier League rules of conduct.

'Our subsequent position has been severely compromised by both clubs making their intentions widely known and indeed making contact with the players and their agents, without the club's permission.

'I have absolutely no wish to sell either player and to date we have not accepted any offer for either.

'However, when a player's head is turned and their commitment is absent, particularly when they occupy key positions such as that of striker, they become a negative influence in a team dressing room in which they were once a positive addition and influence.

'This is the situation we now have on our hands, with both Dimitar and Robbie having made it clear that they wish to leave for Manchester Utd and Liverpool respectively.

'Irrespective of the outcome and futures of Robbie and Dimitar, we are continuing to seek to bring in quality, talented players for the future, who want to play in a Spurs shirt.'

Benitez and Spurs have clashed before, in March 2006, when the Liverpool boss claimed Spurs were 'desperate' to sell Jermain Defoe and take Djibril Cisse.

It led to Benitez's professionalism being questioned by Spurs officials, and the latest fall-out is unlikely to help the relationship between the clubs.

Aston Villa had already been upset this summer by Benitez's comments regarding Gareth Barry's potential move to Anfield. However, Ferguson believes it will be 'very embarrassing' for Tottenham if they decide to carry out their threat to report Manchester United to the Premier League. Old Trafford boss Ferguson maintains he never mentioned anyone by name when he revealed they had tabled a bid for a player. Ferguson claims his remarks were misreported by a national newspaper and that United may now bring in their legal team. Speaking after the 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs in the Vodacom Challenge in South Africa, he said: 'It is going to be very embarrassing for them (Tottenham). 'But you know what Daniel Levy is like. He is different.'

Ferguson has chucked it back in Levy's face saying that the report of man utd by Spurs is based on Newspaper speculation rather than an unofficial approach by him. Thus, he opines, Levy is a twatfor not checking his sources.

Another way of looking at it might be that Ferguson has now got fleet street doing his undermining work for him!!

Have Spurs strengthened there defence at all? I mean we know they were rather apt at attacking last season but produced the kind of defending only seen during kids matches in the streets on a warm summers evening. Not sure bringing in Gomes counts either as there is only so much a keeper can do.

As you know kind sir, THFC have many fine traditions..

freeflowing football...insulting people like yourself...oddball managers....but clearly at the top of the list is the tradition of a back four like a sieve. And, no, I don't expect it to change any time soon! If you think the Nix have a problem with the rightback position, THFC seem to double up with right back and left back problems for decades.

Bring back Graeme Roberts!

Well, Spurs sold Stephen Kelly didn't they and he was a great RWB. We had him on loan for a season and would have bought him but at that stage we could not compete for wages.

wont be 8.5 mil, still quite a bit tho, was rumoured to be 50% of anything above the 3 mil Rovers paid for him. So prob closer to 6.

But im glad to see him go, he was becoming a pain in the arse tbh, after telling people to leave the large clubs to play first team rather than sit in the reserves, he does an about face and forces a transfer to a bigger club once he got called into the England set up.

Makes you wonder tho, both Bentley and Barry were happy and very settled in their respective teams, untill they got England call ups, and then they decided they wanted to move.

good work on signing bentley, we can't listen to the doomsayers from arsenal, spurs are looking like a good team. if ramos can bring all these players together with a solid team ethic and a determination to win we will be great.
Darren Bent with 9 goals in 3 games, maybe he will make up some of that 16.5mil this season.
ahh arsenal supporters are great to banter with though it must be said

I've been saying for a while that Bent deserves another chance. He has been written off by so many after his first season and admittedly he found it tough but he finished the season looking like the player Spurs had wanted him to be and I think he'll be a big success this season. And being out of Keane's (and maybe Berbatov's) shadow will do him a lot of good too.

But I think Spurs could have a good year, some good buys, got rid of some of the squad players. Guess it really depends on what happens with Berbatov that will determine how good their off season has been.

I think spurs will have a great season this year. Have purchased 3 outstanding players in modric, dos santos and gomes. And if you add bently and ashravin like the media suggests that a quality team. The only problem could be the back line and weather or not if modric, dos santos and ashravin will be able to handle the pace and physicality of the prem.

DARN IT! I'd made a pact with myself not to get excited about the forthcoming season...so many false dawns. But, heck, I just can't help it..this could be an interesting one.

Perhaps Bent will kick on now...we all know he has the potential to be great, just hasn't shown it yet. If Hutton and Bale can keep fit, with Woodgate & King/Dawson as a back four it is as complete a side as i can remember. I look forward to seeing Lochead mark Lennon - then we'll see what quick really means.

A reminder that only one London club came away with a Pot last season, my Gooner people.

at least its never boring being a spurs supporter.
has anyone seen the goals from the orient win? they're superb, bent is looking the goods as a goal-getter. personally i think thats something that keane and berba lacked, the ability to consistently poach ala van nistelrooy. bent may have that ability.
was having a discussion with some arsenal mates r.e defensive stocks and i dont think we are any worse off than they are. king, woody, dawson, hutton, bale, gilberto, gunter.
vs gallas, toure, sagna, clichy, senderos, song, hoyte.
were we to be blessed with an injury free season i think our backline could get a few more clean sheets.

Arsenal have the two best fullbacks in the league. With all due respect, I don't think the Spurs backline is anywhere near that quality (admitting our CB partnership can be weak at times, just like yours).

Theres nothing like the signing of new talent to get a yido excited about the new season. How easily we forget the dull lacklustre performances put in by spurs post lifting the Carling Cup. But like you HH i had promised myself that i wouldn't get excited about the start of the season. i just hope the flamboyant boys we have purchased can roll up their sleeves come the winter months and contribute on the wellingtonesc type pitches.
