No matter how much Gazidis may come out with, like every year we'll still be desperately scrambling for Kalou or Ba or Darren Bent or someone like that at 11.55pm on deadline day and be told it was impossible to do anything earlier because of the World Cup. In the mean time Liverpool decided they wanted more depth up front so they've signed Lambert already. Boom. Done. Chelsea wanted a top class starting striker so they've signed Costa. Done. Fabregas looks likely to be wrapped up before the World Cup too. Players going to the World Cup and sorted at the start of June.

I, for one, am glad we did not sign Lambert.

Balotelli rumours gaining a bit of momentum, I'd have him in a heart beat. I'm hoping the Remy rumours disappate the way the Ashley Williams ones do.

Quotes from Ancelotti that they've agreed to let Morata leave for more game time. Sign him up. Mandzukic has also confirmed he's leaving. I'd take them both, giving us development and depth & send Sanogo off on loan.

foal made the point that we cant on-sell him immediately due to the rule that players can't play for more than 2 clubs per year

so if we do this it's for real, he's coming to play for  us

Feels a bit weird as he was considered not good enough last time, but then wasn't really given much of a chance outside of cup games. Plus there were various different stories about his poor attitude and things like turning up to the airport for European away games without his passport etc. Still who are Arsenal to turn down the chance of a bargain bin signing? Feels very much like a typical Arsenal bargain bin maintaining 4th place signing instead of having a go for Cavani/Benzema/Balotelli/whoever. At least he's not going to the World Cup so would be fresh. Guess that's the striker signing so now onto RB.

Disappointed if this is true

Not sure it's completely fair to be disappointed just yet. I'd hold that until we end the summer with only him as a signing.

If he's brought back to add depth and width on the left wing, then good deal I reckon.

So much this. I think he'll add some diversity up front, imagine a faster Podolski. You all wanted pace, he'll bring that, maybe not Walcott/Ox levels but enough to freak out defenders.
Speak of pacing I'm still looking forward to seeing Joel Campbell playing for us in pre-season, I think he'll bring more to the table than Sanogo or Bendtner did.

Some reports say he wants to stay in San Sebastian. If so then we should hold. Otherwise it's good business and IMO highly unlikely to be the end all of summer attacking purchases.

Remy talk is humorous, agreed terms with Cocks, but waiting on us as would prefer to be here.

Im inclined to agree with Arseblog on this one. We shouldn't be looking to Vela to solve our left wing problems.

I think I can relate to you on that point Uber, and proabably goes some way to explain kwlap's disappointment. It would be disappointing if he was it, but with a big forward (ideally) coming in, that edge in the bigger games, the person to really change a game, then Vela can just come in as a squad player. I don't know why he would though (as the squads player he certainly would be).

There's a good point raised about his ability at a higher level, goals against higher teams in Spain, and why he was primarily used in the carling cup in England. But they are the same sentiments I share below. If he wasn't up to it, Wenger wouldn't bring him back. And if Wenger does bring him back, we've added some depth. Then when players like Cazorla, Ox, Podolski etc are red lining, we have someone else, instead of injuring someone because we don't have the personel.

The article questions who he would replace, I don't really think anyone. Just added depth. But there is a part of the article I would agree with, and have only personally dismissed because, well, if arsenal were buying him, and/or he wanted to come back, then none of it would be true. It was this part:

I’ve written before why I think that is but to clarify: Spanish football suits him; playing in a team in which he’s got more responsibility suits him; playing at a club where there’s less pressure than Arsenal suits him; and the culture, climate and lifestyle in Spain suits him.

Not saying I wouldn't prefer a, say, Draxler instead! Just overly optimistic.

And supposed to be studying. So doing everything but.

i dont mind the gamble on Vela, if he fails we will still be about to flick him off for 7/8 million i reckon. As long as we get a DMF, Striker and RB......doesnt bother me too much whoelse we get on the side

Maybe no need to worry:

Real Sociedad president Jokin Apperibay insists Carlos Vela wants to stay at the club rather than return to Arsenal.

Apperibay travelled to London earlier this week to negotiate a deal with Arsenal, who still own 50 per cent of Vela's rights and can activate a buy-out clause included in his sale to the Basque club in 2012.

Although Apperibay has admitted that Arsenal are keen to activate the clause, he revealed at a dinner with reporters that the Mexican striker, who scored 16 goals last term, does not want to move back to the Gunners.

"We are fortunate that the player is keen to stay in San Sebastian with us and that's an important factor for Real Sociedad," said Apperibay.

While I think it's good there seems to be some sort of transfer window rationality, and we're not buying players just because, I think Cesc should have been an exception, and think we'll see that this year.

Also, how does Chelsea sign Cesc and Costa when 'it's impossible to buy players before the world cup'?

It is indeed a dark day.

Because it's not "impossible." Liverpool also managed to sign Lambert, another player who is at the World Cup. Like any other time, you have to actually make a bid and then it becomes possible. However when the season starts and we've still not signed anyone no doubt we'll told by Wenger that we couldn't do anything because of the World Cup.

Anyway hopefully this will now put to bed any worship Arsenal fans still have for Fabregas. Won't be long until he comes out with something about having "London DNA." So much for that Barcelona DNA. Didn't last long did it? Twice.

Also is it possible that Wenger turned it down because he doesn't want to spend on that much on anyone rather than because he didn't want the player which we all assmume?

out of the top 4 last season, City have deals in place to bring in players, Chelsea have got costa and cesc, liver have signed lambert, emre and made bid for mornea. All 3 are already stronger teams then they were last season. It's shit like this that pisses me off about our transfers. for the love of god i hope cesc doesnt hit good form

If you told me in 2011 that in 3 years time, Nasri, van Persie and Fabregas would be playing for Man City, Man United and Chelsea, I might've gone out the back and shot myself.

I guess to be fair if you'd also told me we'd win another FA Cup, sign Ozil, and Ramsey would become a world class player, I may have lowered the pistol and thought for a second...

Barcelona continuing to show their class I see.

A statement on the club's official website said: 'Despite glowing starts to each campaign, Cesc’s contributions to the cause gradually decreased as each season drew to a close.

'From being someone who joined in with the attack, supplying and scoring goals, the magic tended to fade later on in each season. He only scored one, six and one goals in the last 24 games of each season.

Can't imagine any other big club embarrassing themselves like that. Usually it would be "he joined the club in ... and scored this many goals and made this many assists in this many games. We thank him for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future."

True that. And in fairness, if we don't make the required signings and continue to battle for 4th every season the same will probably be able to be said of Ramsey, Ozil and Koscielny in 3 years.

Wow can't believe that statement from Barca! Something went down there between him and management I reckon, that's a nasty little stab in the back.

That's awful isn't it. I recently read the segment of Ibra's book where he talks about leave Barca, and how he was forced out of it because Pep didn't like him, the management basically forced him out. Seems similar to this, although have just one mans version in Ibra's case, and speculation in this case.

Link to Zlatan story here.
