Barcelona claim they have agreed a 16million fee for Thierry Henry.

Reports in Spain have emerged suggesting the Arsenal striker has signed a four-year deal with Barcelona.

Cadena Ser radio, the station that broke the news of David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane's moves to Real Madrid, have stated that Barcelona will pay 24million (16million) for the Arsenal forward.

The station, which quotes Barcelona officials, says Henry has already put pen-to-paper on a contract spanning until 2011.

Spanish newspapers have also reported the story, but a spokesman from Barcelona has told Sky Sports News that the deal is not yet finalised.

The spokesman claims Henry's move is 'not totally done and dusted' and has insisted that discussions are still ongoing between Arsene Wenger and his Barcelona counterparts.

Barcelona have been tracking Henry for over 12 months, despite the Frenchman signing a long-term deal with The Gunners last summer.

The Catalan giants are looking to strengthen this summer after losing out to Real Madrid in the Spanish title race.

And after Arsenal's disappointing season in the Premiership it appears Henry has made the decision to continue his career at Camp Nou.

Speculation about his future has continued to mount in recent weeks, especially since the departure of David Dein.

I don't believe this.

There have been all sorts of 'developed' stories about his leaving. Until it's on the Barca or Arsenal site, I'm calling speculation.

Reminds me a bit of Gerrard going/not going to Chelsea. Looked a certainty at one point. So there is still hope he will stay at Arsenal. But it doesn`t look good.

i can't agree more, a pathetic price, what are they thinking. the board has alot to answer for. whats the point in spending 3-4 years developing a young squad if they have no-one to lead them.
all i cna say is they better have a plan to use the money wisely and keep arsenal alive. if wenger follows, we're screwed.

Yeah he's leaving because he wants to try new things, and Wenger doesn't look like staying on much longer.

Wenger has one year left on his contract but there is a rumour that he may replace Rijkaard.

In a perfect world I would like to see Bergkamp come back and manage the club - but its not a perfect world, so we will probably get Tony Adams or something. Also as replacements for Henry the rumor mill suggests Anelka or a move for Ajax stars Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Ryan Babel.

I hate to sound alarmist but the Arsenal board also released Vieira on a cut price deal remember? And they have suffered ever since failing to replace the irreplacacble.
So in the space of a couple seasons they have lost (At the time) the best centre mid in the game but now also IMHO the best striker...
NO such thing as a replacement for that kinda quality...

Wenger will see out the final year of his contract - he prides himself on never having broken a contract, so he will not start now.

He will not sign a new one, though, so this time next year, he will be heading off to Barca or Real.  My outside bet is for George Graham to replace him, and bring Keown, Dixon, Winterburn and Adams back from retirement

Fantastic news!  Hopefully he will setlle in well at Barca and I'm sure he will be a real boost to the team.  The question now is, with Samuel Eto'o and Ronaldinho, will there be space in the starting 11 for them, Henry and the new talents of Barca - Gio Dos Santos and Bojan Krkric.  If there is, Barca really have a dream team now.

Commiserations to Arsenal, but the way - but maybe this is what they need to start the painful process of rebuilding.  Five years ago Barca were in the dumps, almost missing out on European qualification, problems with managers, players  and directors.  Pretty much the same situation as Arsenal now.  Arsenal should see this as a sign that they need to take a fresh look at everything and start again.  With the resources they have, with the new stadium and their history, they will do just fine.

How do you replace a guy that has been the arses leading scorer every season he's played for them.

And with the mountain of debt from the stadium can they afford another marquee player? And any such player is probably from outside the premiership so he's probably gonna take a season to adjust to the English game.

Then the danger is you spend a season rebuilding, miss out on getting past the group stage in Europe and lose the cash that goes with it. Doesn't look like such a good deal if that happens.

Sorry, not trying to gloat. I mean L'pool went thru the same thing when they sold Owen. How many years ago was that and we still don't have a 20 goal a season striker.

I think gunners fans have a right to be pissed off.

I am tired of hearing that Arsenal are in a mountain of debt, they are currently alot more profitable, and more valuable than most teams in the world. The new stadium didnt cripple us financialy, we financed it over 25 years at low interest, with the increased gate takings cover more than twice the annual repayments, leaving half that money free to be invested where we see fit. We will also have a huge cash injection once the redevelopment of Highbury is complete. Frankly we are the only club in the top 4 in England that hasnt had the need for multi millionaire sugar daddy to back our success (man u didnt need one, but they got one against thier will )

I know heaps of people will disagree with me on this, but it would be great to see Arsenal sign Patrick Kluivert. He was absolutely phenomenal at Euro 2000 and many people probably think he's past it but I think he deserves a chance.

If Arsenal's finances are so bad they wouldve demanded a much higher fee for Henry. The fact that they did'nt seems to indicate they are alright money wise.

Bring on Fernando Torres or David Villa

Yeah mistake me if im wrong but a couple years back a club, i think Barcelona, wanted to make henry the most expensive transfer ahead of Zidanse (50mill) i think it was close to 70mill, so Arsenal do not ave money problems ATM, its internal.

Patrick Kluivert?!
Thats probably the worst suggestion ever.
He was rubbish at Newcastle, he was rubbish at Valencia, and now he can't even get a look in at PSV. And on top of that he turns 31 in a week, when does Arsenal ever sign anyone older then about 25?

Henry should have gone last year, Real and Barca were both prepared to pay world record transfers then, and we could really have used that money to buy Torres!

did someone mention Kluivert as an answer?? hahahaha, well if you wanna take a step back in time and see if any of those young legs from the Ajax days are still left in him then by all means go ahead, but that would be a bigger tragedy than letting henry go!

I don't think Arsenal are in such a bad shape. they still have Adebeyor and van persie and whoever other young wonderkids they got hiding away somwhere. if they're gonna rebuild they mighht as well do it now while they can still get 16mil for henry, babel coming in a season or two will be good, and the talk of tevez being keen would also be a positive step forward.

we will just have to wait and see. I mean how many games did henry play last season anyways???

I think I am the first person in the world to discover how Thierry Henry decides who to play for (and I did actually think of this myself).

It revolves around bums, or should I say arse,

He started of at ArSe Monaco, then when to Juventarse, then Arsenal, now it bARSEalona.

Where to next. mARSEeille?

Makes you think.

if the Arse are so not in the sh*t financially why haven't they been spending? Surely if they're as healthy financially as you make out then they'd be competeing for the signatures of the likes of Torres and Malouda but we have seen much movement in the transfer market at all. Does Wenger normally make big money purchases?
