Not sure if there's another thread for this, but...

Sad to hear of the passing of Harry Gregg this morning - long-serving goalkeeper of Manchester United and Doncaster, who was named keeper of the tournament at the 1958 World Cup playing for Northern Ireland.  He was also well known for his role in saving people during the Munich air disaster.

Harry had a connection to New Zealand with the Otago youth team that travelled several times to the Milk Cup tournament in Northern Ireland - a connection on the back of his son John having a short but influential spell with Dunedin Tech in the National League in 2000.  I was fortunate to meet him a couple of times at those tournaments - he was absolutely brilliant company, so many incredible stories to tell, and an incredibly astute football brain.

Very sad that he's gone, but pleased for everyone who got to share in his company down the years.

Harry Gregg RIP

Some moving stories in recent weeks about Harry Gregg's bravery and compassion in twice returning to the burning wreck of the Munich air disaster to save victims.

I remember seeing Harry's son John, a handy midfielder in his thirties from the Northern Ireland league, when he came out to play in the Southern League for Dunedin Tech. .

Gained a bit of attention down here at the time with the Harry Gregg connection.

I seem to remember Harry Gregg coming out here to visit his son and see him play.

John talks about his dad at his funeral with photo:

Harry Gregg missed United's tour of NZ in 1967, having been sold to Stoke City months before and then retiring.

Alex Stepney was in goal for United when they beat an Auckland XI 8-1 and NZ 11-0

Brilliant article on the official Man United website last year about that NZ tour:
