I believe that SKY should invest or create a footballing channel, the market is surely there.

I remember when they created a Channel 16 back in the day to show the 2002 World Cup. This was brilliant all the games at your fingertips, replays and everything.. This would be great to see SKY invest and create this channel.

Showing
  • English Premiership Games
  • Championship Games
  • Spain - La Liga
  • MLS
  • A-League
  • NZFC (Maybe)
  • Italy - Serie A
  • Germany - Bundesliga 1
  • France - Ligue 1
  • Scotland Premier League
  • Champions League
  • FA Cup
  • Uefa Cup
  • Also Others that i haven't covered

It may cost alot of money to get these TV rights, but if the demand is there then SKY will get benefits in the long run.. Just my thoughts, what you think??

Not sure if this is in the right section but please move it if it isn't.

never ever happen. each and every one of those competitions sell its broadcasting rights regionally, and the cost would be prohibitive even if the charged $50 a month and everyone in NZ subscribed. They get serie A, La liga, and UEFA CL & UEFA Cup, + MLS coverage via ESPN at $0 extra cost. Sky only pays for EPL & A league coverage. the demand for other leagues wouldn't justify the cost. Plus advertising revenue would be limited as most of the live coverage would be in the middle of the night and attracts limited interest to advertisers as it has become more common for games to be digitally recorded and advertising skipped.
Our best bet is to pick up another sports channel similar to ESPN that covers most of this content. The most obvious options being Setanta, Fox sports, or Fox soccer channel (US).
This topic has been covered numerous times before. have a search for TV coverage for more info.

as mentioned in another thread ESPN have lost the TV rights to the UEFA competitions for next season in north America, how this will affect us is unsure as Sky are looking into other options for broadcast rights.

Sky sport have 2 more channels available  since the 2002 WC. if i remember correctly the last 2 world cups sky showed every single game live with differant games being shown on 2 channels at the same time. Same for the Euros  last year. we actually get quite a lot of football coverage for such a small country.

Edit: thanks el g. i thought 2000 sounded wrong.

I refuse to watch a football channel that doesn't have live HNL on.

And please note, there was NO World Cup in 2000. There was one in 1998 and another in 2002 though...

I read somewhere the other day that Sky get the A-League games not involving the Phoenix free, part of a contra deal when they pay for the Nix rights. So that brings the list down to EPL and Nix games

I'm pretty sure we get more EPL than most other countries, Footy channel would be a waste of time tbh

In Australia every EPL game is live. You get viewers choice and you can pick your game and also can change anytime you want.

I think sky do a good job with the football but i just want sky to put the replays(especially midweek games) on at a decent time slot, like the other morning they had wigan v utd live 7am awesome stuff but i missed it  because i was at work and i'm sure others were either at work or on their way to work so why put the replay on at midday ? why not put it on in the evening say 6pm or something

Yep you've got a fair point - $15 extra a month made me think and delay it a while... but once i got it i instantly forgot the old way of watching tv.

People commented that "f*ck you dont wanna end up watching that much tv, that's bad" but in reality you now watch less - instead of 'surfing' watching nothing you watch only things you want to see, and nothing you dont. Quality not quantity becomes the norm...

With rumours of SKY getting the EPL back, should a dedicated channel be on the cards? Plenty of football around the world that could get live or delayed showing.

Well if they do create a channel they will likely put it behind a paywall and could put all football coverage they have access to, behind it. How would A-league and nix supporters feel about this?

They do it with the egg ball channel. Would not have to subscribe to sky sports as such but just the footie channel would be nice.

And lo, it has come to pass, as fans have been calling for since last decade on this thread.

Sky TV now finally have a dedicated 24 hour football channel.

Available at no extra cost as part of the new Sky Sport package.

Part of a revamp of Sky Sport commencing today.

Nine permanent Sky Sport channels plus a Sports News channel and ESPN 1 & 2.

Just looking at the schedule for the new Sky Sport 7 football channel which commenced broadcasting today, they seem to have taken over everything that was on the one BeIn Sport channel that was left on Sky.

English Championship & EFL, Bundesliga, la Liga, MLS, Copa Libertadores etc.

No doubt the A-League will be carried there too, along with internationals

https://www.sky.co.nz/tvguide

So it seems BeIn no longer has a seperate channel carried on Sky.

Better value for football followers now that they don't have to pay extra for the BeIn Sport content but get it as part of their Sky Sport package.

Most people would have been subscribing to BeIn Sport on Sky for the EPL coverage.

Now they've lost the rights, I suspect too many people stopped subscribing, so Sky have taken the BeIn coverage under their umbrella.

A very positive move by Sky in my book.

All nine Sky Sport channels will be available from mid-August on Sky's new sports steaming service Sky Sport Now for $49.95 per month.

yes looks like the bein sports channel has just moved over to sky sport 7 (57) and any sky subscriber can now log onto the bein connect app and watch on demand content and extra games being streamed.

Since this just seems to be the bein sports channel, any other content (fa cup, champions league, serie a) May not be on “sky sport 7 - football 24/7” which I find interesting...

All football SKY has will first and foremost be put on SKY Sport 7.

I only have fanpass. I'm really excited about this though because you only get Sport 1 - 4 on fanpass, no pop ups, so I miss a ton of stuff.

Now I'll apparently get the 9 channels, the new news channel, and ESPN 1 and 2. Huge difference.

However all the info so far is mostly set top box targeted, aside from the brief mention that the FanPass app will be replaced by "Sky Sports Now", which carries all the channels.

I can't find that app in the app store, and I have not had any comms from Sky.

I've contacted them via twitter but that has generated nothing but "we'll check your email and get back to you". No emails yet.

Is anyone else on FanPass only? Does anyone know what the deal is i.e. when the app is coming? Apparently there's an email "with all the details" that has gone out to FanPass subscribers, but that's the email I still don't have. If anyone does have it, please paste!

The new app launches on the 14th

OMG one post and I got what I needed, thank you very much sir.

I've tweeted sky 4 times, DM'd them twice, they have sent me 4 responses in total, and yet have still not told me that simple piece of information.

Do they still have Serie A rights? Have only seen the Bein stable (La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, South American stuff) advertised thus far.

Quite generous of them to not charge for it the past few months, I thought.
