Weird An English Football Discussion thingy and no threads on the English Team.

England against Israel in a hour of so. Any ex-pats worried about qualifying? Or like many from Mother England are you jaded by the whole farcical mess that is our team? Players that don't want to play, (I can't really blame some of them), A manager loathed by everyone execpt the FA. The FA who the hell put these people in charge of it?

I never realistically expect England to go on and win the world cup, the European championships I think at least we should mount a serious challange. I don't seem to have the interest I did when I was younger, Keegan, Lineker, Butcher with his blood-stained head band. The handsome pin-up that was Beardsley, Waddle's hair, "Jumper's for goal-posts" etc...

I think its the lack of passion from the players and Steve Mclaren's gurning features that are killing it for me., I'm also sick to death hearing how concerned this player or that player is about England only to see them go to sleep when they hit the pitch.

What do others think?

good on you fortean, i thought about starting a thread last night but couldn't really muster the enthusiasm

watched it on vid, glad they won, but like you say it seems harder to relate players like ferdinand etc than it was to Keegan, marsh, lineker, even good old Gazza

enjoyed owens goal,

like el grap noted, thursday's the crunch - huddink is such a good coach that i'm a bit worried - he would have been my pick for the england job

anyway good to see a win, but i'd have traded it for a Nix win, this way tho I should see both!!!!!! (fingers. legs, eyes, ears and bollox crossed)

CMON YOU NIX!!!!!

Hopefully back on track.  To me the most disaapointing thing about England back to the last World Cup was that the senior players like Lampard and Gerrard just would not produce the goods for their country.  I think the problem is that they give it all for the premiership and have nothing kleft in the tank.

Novetherless, GO ENGLAND!!!

Celtic, I hope your loyalty to Scotland is greater than the your loyalty to the Phoenix, some of your negative posts about the Phoenix are tragic,

so instead of trying to just sl*g teams off, why don't you start a Scotland thread??

Yeah I always try and stop myself posting if I'm pissed as I normally end up sounding like an obnoxious fool.

Despite what some might think being an England fan is great. So much promised and not so much delivered...  what more could you ask for?

Like Fortean I never "realistically expect" I just go for the ride....

Sorta off topic - but what are the rules on a player naturalising to play for England?
I mean, I had a random thought - surely Carlo Cudicini could be an England keeper if he naturalised...

Another bloke on the internet sez this:

Answer
David,

Originally, you used to have to have some bloodline or family relation from a given country, or be born there or have a parent or relative born there. But these days, anyone can become a citizen of any country and play for that country, as long as they have not played for any other nation beforehand. But even then, there are exceptions, such as Tim Cahill, who played for Western Samoa, and was still allowed to play for Australia later. It is up to FIFA and the ruling body of the country in question.

Eduardo da Silva is a good example of this, Brazilian born player, star striker for Croatia. (2 goals on the weekend)

I should just put this all in one post but I'm a bit mad and wired after a night shift so Cudicini is not eligible under section 3(a) of the Fifa rules. BUT Section 5 says he can if he makes a written request so I hav'nt got a bastard clue. Right off to go mental in the garden like a 3 year old and then go to sleep.

But note that Eduardo came to Croatia as a 15-year old so it's a completely different situation to Cudicini's for example.
