A thread for people to give opinions and info on all the British football coverage now on numerous channels in NZ such as Sommet Sports (Freeview HD UHF channel 14), Sky TV and TV One.

Have got rid of Sky Sport for the time being myself until the A-League starts (although I still have Sky) and have been getting my football fix from Sommet Sports on Freeview the last month.

Really enjoyed the broadcast of Leicester v Leeds on Sommet Sports on Monday morning which I recorded on my DVD recorder hard drive and watched last night, even if it wasn't  a great game and Chris Wood only played the last 15 mins (but did very well and came closest to scoring of any player).

Seeing the Community Shield for free was also good and good commentary from Setanta Sports' UK feed. Some Van Persie magic!!!

England v Scotland International for 150th Anniversary of English FA : Sommet Sports 6.45am Thursday (replay 8pm)

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I've recently come across this website which streams Sky Sports UK  24/7 for free: EPL, lower leagues, cup ties, European games, whatever:

This awesome website streams all of Sky Sports UK's numerous channels (and some other good UK channels)  for free. It's the answer to a Kiwi football fan's dreams!!! Streams all the four Sky Sports channels (and Sky Sports News) direct from the UK 24 hours a day.

Sommet Sports (Freeview HD UHF channel 14) - Excellent coverage of the QPR V Sheffield Wednesday game. We've got Bolton & Leeds coming up. Hopefully I'll get to see them too.

Sommet Sports 1 Sky & Coluseum (or whatever they want to call themselves) 0

very happy. Shame I missed the Yeovil V Birmingham City game. I just love football in general and enjoy watching the lower league sides.

If you have a digital TV or a digital tuner on your DVD player, you won't need to buy a free view box.

My Security suite picked up a few things which i have previously warned you all about. However, my question is, has anyone else with solid security had any warning notifications? God knows what else you're downloading other than the game.

Agree mostly, Leicester v Leeds was still very enjoyable, but it would have been the first game for both sides, Woods definitely had the best chance -  beat the keeper but not the woodwork sadly.  The speed of the players and play seemed much superior to the A-league and definitely a better spectacle than Liverpool v Tards at the MCG (which was still a great experience).  I was impressed with Leicester, they dominated and their goalie looked awesome - well his kicks and throws anyway.  I think they'll end up being promoted this year.  Leeds away strip reminded me of the Beige Brigade days of NZ cricket - bloody awful.

Anyone know if I buy a Apple TV, I can watch live premier league? Don't want to lug the desktop PC out to the lounge every time I want to watch a game.

There was two hours of EPL on TV1 on Sunday if anyone missed it. One hour was a review of last season month by month and the second hour was best goals, best saves and worst misses. Started at 12pm. This may have been a pre cursor to their coverage on Sunday of one match with the highlights show on Monday.

Missed it due to their wonderful advertising campaign. Showing it must be a pain as that's when they usually have the Coro Street repeats.

I've just seen that the Highlights show is due to be shown on TVOne at 11pm after the news...WTF!!

What's wrong with a 'normal' time around 8 or 9pm?

How are they catering to families who's kids want to watch?

Yea that's not ideal is it. Guess they're not willing to budge on the prime  time slots.

You might have to get a recordable freeview box? Not sure how much they are

Sommet haven't officially announced they have the rights to Liverpool TV but they've been dropping pretty strong hints all week such as changing their Facebook cover photo as above and this notification of the weekend's EPL fixtures to be announced today, referencing "Stoked" as in Liverpool v Stoke on Sunday (in NZ):

We will announce this weekends EPL games on Thursday, we are sure some of you will be Stoked!

So, Sommet have Liverpool and Chelsea TV channels (and will be able to broadcast Cup ties and European games involving those clubs too I guess).

SOMMET SPORT FOOTBALL THE NEXT WEEK:

SUN. 10 am : Frankfurt v Bayern Munich

SUN. 9.30 pm : Liverpool v Stoke City

MON. 11 am : Chelsea v Hull

TUES. 5.30 am : BDL Monchengladbach v Hanover

TUES. 1 pm : Frankfurt v Bayern replay

TUES. 5.30pm : Monchengladbach v Hanover replay

WEDNES. 8 am : Leeds v Sheffield Wednesday - Championship

Meanwhile, of course, Sky TV have announced a three-year agreement to bring  Manchester United TV to New Zealand which will include delayed coverage of Manchester United Premier League matches.

Sky viewers can now watch delayed coverage of Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur EPL games - plus Cup ties and European fixtures involving these clubs I believe... "viewers can access MUTV and experience exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, documentaries as well as match coverage."

Much of Sommet Sports' coverage seems to be provided by Irish-based international broadcaster Setanta.

To see which Championship (and lower league) games Setanta are broadcasting on any week see here:

  http://www.setanta.com/au/our-sports/soccer/npower-Football-League-Championship/

Setanta's Capital One (League) Cup schedule here: http://www.setanta.com/au/our-sports/soccer/Capital-One-Cup/

Next round 28/8/13, 29/8/13 : Setanta are broadcasting Liverpool v Notts County; Morecombe v Newcastle

England internationals here:  http://www.setanta.com/au/our-sports/soccer/England-Internationals/

England v Moldova World cup qualifier 6/9/13

Links to all Setanta's football schedules here: http://www.setanta.com/au/our-sports/soccer/

Setanta's commentators make a nice change from the years of inane commentary from Mr Magoo (Tommy Smyth) and co. we've endured on ESPN.

Goodbye Mr Magoo!!!!

Mr. Magoo / a.k.a. Tommy Smyth
Born in 1949, already old, Mr. Magoo demonstrates the wonders of being over-the-hill. Anybody can complain about things, but a true curmudgeon gets out there in the world. Stuck in his own blindness, he travels at a speed slower than the rest of us, and Mr. Magoo is nothing if not safe. It's the confounded world around him that causes all the trouble....

SKY TV COVERAGE

Sky have announced this morning heaps of extra features will accompany each EPL broadcast:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/9048728/Sky-TV-signs-another-big-Premier-League-club

Taking coverage from the club TV channels of Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur,

"Sky director of sport Richard Last said the delayed rights for the four teams would provide subscribers with a different type of content.

Games would be shown in three-hour blocks, which would include pre- and post-match interviews Sky had otherwise been unable to show.

Delayed coverage of the respective teams' Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup games would also be available."

Although I have Sky TV, I think I'll hold off until the A-League starts in October before paying an extra $27 / month for Sky Sport.

We'll get three complete EPL games a week and a one hour highlights show for free from Sommet Sports and TV One between them, while you only get one more game from Sky....even if they will broadcast all the pre and post- match shows. And they're all delayed on all channels anyway.

TV One's broadcast of Man Utd v Swansea is actually a little earlier than Sky TV's (starting 12pm Sunday compared to 1pm on Sky)

I don't mind delayed coverage as I always watched games either recorded or delayed on Sky previously.

I don't intend to spend an extra $150 / season for Coliseum internet coverage.

Three EPL games a week is enough for me, considering there's plenty of other football on Sommet for free too...

Sommet Sport really have to stop stuffing fans about by changing their broadcast times all over the show -

originally they scheduled their two weekend EPL games as Liverpool v Stoke 9.30 pm Sun. and Chelsea v Hull 11 am Mon.

Then by Sunday morning they'd changed it to Liverpool v Stoke 8 pm Mon. and Chelsea v Hull 11 am Mon.

THIS MORNING: Now they've moved the Chelsea v Hull game to 5.30 pm tonight, while Liverpool v Stoke remains at 8 pm  tonight

JEEZ !!! SOMMET, SORT IT OUT !!!

Contact them via Facebook to ask them to not keep changing their EPL match broadcast times:

I found the ARSEnal TV commentators hilarious esp the comments guy. I watched about 15 mins at the start, 2-3 mins either side of all the goals and then the last 2 mins. To listen to the commentators talk about 'us', 'we' and 'them' was something new.

He also ripped into the ref for the penalties and then at these end said the Arse were very unlucky to lose, outplayed Villa and if Villa played like that all season they would finish in the bottom 6.

Will tape the Spurs one and see if I appreciate it more given im a Spurs fan!

Reply from Sommet Sport to me (and several others) on Facebook re: moving Chelski EPL broadcast to 5.30 pm tonight:

Sommet Sports Hi Peter, we have not received the game yet, that is why the game has been moved

JEEZ, CHELSEA FC - GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER YOU OBNOXIOUSLY WEALTHY TWATS !!!

Also must be that Liverpool FC failed to provide the Liverpool v Stoke game on time, hence re-scheduled to 8 pm tonight...
