Hi all, thought I'd start a pointless debate as to which team has been the best in the Premier League.

Pretty open ended question, depends how one defines the best.

Some ideas I was thinking of was;

Most wins: 29, Chelsea (2004/05 and 2005/06))

Most points: 95, Chelsea (2004/05)

Most goals; 106, Chelsea (2009/10)

Fewest goals conceded: 15, Chelsea (2004/05)

Fewest losses: 0, Arsenal (2003/04)

Biggest points margin 18, Manchester United (1999/00)

Could make a case for any of these. My bias draws me to the 2004/05 Chelsea team. Winning 29 games, 95 points and 15 goals conceded really stands out for me.

Be interesting to see what others think.

Oh and as a side note, the 2007/08 Derby team is in my opinion the worst Premier League team ever. Won 1 game, got 11 points, scored 20 goals and conceded 89!

Hard to go past the only team who managed to do it unbeaten, but the 04/05 Chelsea team is quite compelling with all those records.

Worth pointing out they were the first to break the Arsenal/ManU dominance for 10 years as well. Both Arsenal and ManU had very strong teams that season too.

They scored a relatively low amount of goals that season though, more than 30 less than the record number of 2009/10. Having said that, they only scored one less than the Arsenal Invincibles, which goes some way to explain the revisionist history we get with these things (that Arsenal side is often lauded as an attractive free-scoring team, yet they averaged less than 2 goals per game, a far cry from some of the 100 goal plus seasons other sides have managed in the premier league).

To be honest I don't think I can really say who I would think was the best side, unless some specific criteria is set, it's too much of a minefield with the ways you could go with it, but it's an interesting discussion nonetheless.

Yea the debate really does boil down to how one defines best.

We are all going to be parochial.

Utd for winning the treble in 98/99.  Cannot really get better than that.

I think we're talking purely premier league rather than best sides overall

But yes no doubt everyone will be very parochial... my last post involved a lot of restraint... the arsenal fan in me just wants to scream invincibles from the rooftops but the logical person in me (if he's really in there) is trying very hard to remain unbiased...

Leicester 15/16.

Fudge records and stats. Mythology is where it's at.

When the Arse went through the whole season 2003/2004 unbeaten in the EPL has to be seriously considered.

'Best' as in squads, etc:

Invincibles >> ManU treble team > Chelsea 04/05

.

Best season for LOL's and memories:

Citeh 11/12 (the final day) > Leicester > Citeh 13/14 (with Liverpool 'slipping up') > ManU 95/96 (with Keegan's "I will love it if we beat them" melt down)

I don't enjoy other teams winning often, but Gerrard's "this does not fudgeing slip now" followed by falling on his face, then losing the 3 goal lead to Palace was awesome. There was an amazing GIF showing a section of their fans when Palace equalised, and the reaction on each one's face was brilliant. Will try and find it.

Brilliant, that first one is it. Love how it takes a few extra seconds for it to hit home for the guy in the glasses and then he feels like all you can do is laugh, and the ginger on the left is not even watching and looks like he lets out a big yawn.
