Gilberto for captain, and we should never sign van Nistelrooy, that would have to be the stupidest thing Arsenal could ever do.

Probably someone like Ryan Babel. Some unknown or talented young player.

Gilberto or Toure for captain. Probably Gilberto with Toure VC.

As far as strikers go, I doubt Wenger is going to sign a has-been.

martins would be a nice signing, but i doubt it wuld happen. atletico will want to much for torres which is a shame. im thinking it will probably be anelka.

I am hearing strong rumours that Anelka will return now Big Sam has left and there is a feeling that Bolton will slide back this season.

Fernando Torres needs to leave Athletico.  They have relied on him too long without ever adding any real depth to help him.  He would benefit from playing at Arsenal, but I dont think it will happen.

A striker who doesn't choke in all the big games would be appreciated!

And we could do with a Fab captain.

Fernando Torres is quality, but would cost a bucket load. Personally i'd love to see David Villa but would cost even more than Torres

Anelka is trouble-so flag.

Trezeguet just signed a new contract with Juve

Huntelaar and babel r good young talents, but we need a proven goalscorer, and preferably with a lot of pace to fit in to the Arsenal style.
Martins? Tevez...?

Silva for captain and anelka up front.

can someone explain why signing van nistlerooy would be the stupidest thing arsenal could do? I don't think the fans would care anymore once he starts banging in the goals

Gilberto showed last year he was a quality captain and no doubt he'll be captain this year.

Whats the point talking about Van Nistelrooy, Madrid would never let him go just 1 season after signing him and epsecially now that he's scoring goals for fun. He's already at a big club so hes not gona leave.

Anelka proved last time at Arsenal that hes troulbe, but hes not a bad player.

I reckon they finaly need to spend some money and go for Torres

my point was really quesitoning why they shouldn't consider van nistlerooy. was just interested as to why whoever posted it thought it'd be stupid to actuaally have the plyer. I agree it's not a likely scenario.

I think Anelka has done enough to suggest he's a different man to who he had been portrayed as all those years ago

I would like to see Tevez but they want between 25 to 28 million for him.

Thats a lot when you consider Huntelaar and Martins for 15 and 13 million respectively.

If you believe the rumours its between man utd and arsenal for tevez. I can't see Man utd shelling out another 25 million this summer for one player. That would take their spending  this summer up to  the 75 million pound mark.

Its going to be an interesting month.

I think Babel has said he wants to stay another year. Huntelaar has been at Ajax one year but could easily be sold at a not too expensive price.

A guy like Anelka would add some experience and he could turn out to be a good buy for them.

However i think the best possible signing up front for them realistically is Martins. An absolute speedster and has had a year under his belt now in English football so should't start slow in the scoring department.

The problem with martins according to some sources is that he is all speed and missing the class in front of goal that we need. I would like us to sign proven finisher, we have enough speed, just not enough people to put it in the back of the net.

I think Martins could turn out to be a proven finisher if we give him the chance.
I followed him at Inter Milan and thought he was quality even back then. I thought he was crazy going to Newcastle as I assumed he's go to a much bigger club.
Its hard to show class at a club like Newcastle, but he still scored goals.

I think he would be as great buy and fits into Wenger philosophy of buying young players.l

Id like to see Torres more than any1 but hes about 2 ruin his career going to Liverpool (otherwise known as the strikers graveyard)

Perhaps in wouldn't be the stupidest thing Arsenal could do, but I certainly wouldn't appreciate van Nistelrooy moving to Arsenal. He played for Manchester United and, as you are probably aware, their is a strong rivalry between the two clubs, not helped by the fact the van Nistelrooy is a goal poacher who scores most of his goals from 4 yards out and does precious little else (that's not entirely true, but he does score a lot of goals from close range) and he has scored his fair share of goals against Arsenal.

In the last paragraph when I said that van Nistelrooy is a goal poacher, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, but Arsenal would want another striker who can score from anywhere and make his presence felt all around the park (like Henry).loyalgunner2007-07-02 20:44:44

Well that is the end of this discussion. 34 goals for club last season. If he gets half that many for the gunners ill be happy. Ive seen him play in the champions league qualifier last year and he looks like he could fit in well. we seem to be picking up as many brazilians as spanish clubs now (i know he plays for croatia but he is still of brazilian decent.)

He looks pretty technical and fast too:

Apparently he was around the GBP7.5m mark....that still leaves quite a bit of money for a wide midfielder.

No they didn't, that was misinterpreted after a comment by the Zagreb coach.

They paid around GBP7.5m

U think Wenger's been eying him up 4 a while as he knew Henry was gna go?
Cos iv never heard this guy mentioned by us or the bigger clubs. But Wenger is clever, havent seen this guy play but im sure he'll b useful.
For that amount of money it sounds like a bargain too.

Wenger is a master at signing potential.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing this guy play for the mighty Gooners.

If Wenger has been following Eduardo De Silva since last year, maybe he was going to be signed anyway, maybe to replace Reyes who was never going to return to arsenal.

If this is true then i'd be expecting another striker signed on.

Probably a bigger name than Ed.

Well we know now that Torres is out of the question for Arse. I wonder who they'll target? Perhaps Whinger does already have someone lined up. .

Interesting you say that because the Daily Mail broke a story of him signing with Manchester United. Having the deal done in the next 48 hours.
