I'm not sure whether this really deserves a thread, as we don't seem to be up to f**k all, but hey, there's always hope.

Ribery was probably the most rumoured in-bound signing but has now signed with Bayern Munich. I wouldn't have minded him either.

Malouda is another French winger we've been linked with, but it seems Liverpool are also pretty keen on him. And they certainly have more funds available, albeit US dollars.

One thing is for certain - we need wide midfielders. If we don't bullk this area up I cannot see us challenging for the Premiership next season.

In terms of outbound action, the rumour mill is running wild re: Henry leaving for first Barcelona and now AC Milan. I hope he stays. If he goes we are going to need a mammoth signing to replace him and I don't see where they are going to come from (Eto'o might prefer the aforementioned US$).

I agree with the "wide players needed" assessment. Ljundlerg can play there but he's gettting on, and Hleb is a player who just cannot come up with final product often enough. I've wondered many times if they regret letting Pennant go a few years back.

The rumours about Henry leaving Arsenal were last year, since then he signed I think it was a four-year contract so I wouldn't worry too much about him. With Toure and Senderos in defence we are reasonable sound, however, one new, experienced defender wouldn't go amiss. Maybe get a wide player as well, but in attack, when van Persie, Henry and Adebayor are fit, we are fine.

I watched espn presspass last night and they interviewed henry and they all agreed he was gnna go. Barcelona no doubt which i believe could involve eto going to Arsenal. Great deal for the both of them and a bitta of a change that will help both sides. Henrys sik of arsenal and Eto is a machine. Good move in football!

Wouldn't be so positive about Arsenals immediate future, unless making decent buys.
Van Persie is not an out an out striker. Adebayor still young but lacking the class of others in prem. Apart from Fabregas you lacking quality.
Ljungberg aged, no decent keeper, no british players and let decent ones go.
pennnant, bentley and campbell why let them go? And Ashley Cole couldn't wait to leave!
Gallas toure and eboue are sound in defence  senderos is gaffe prone, but you lacking experience and players with a physical presence throughout squad. If henry leaves watch Wenger follow end of season, with boardroom backing fading as david dein walked.
Still have a good next generation coming through but no tropheys for a while.
Bout time reverted to some british talent or get le arse kicked
Would fear spurs 4 srtikers over an Henryless Arsenal
The powerbase is shifting in north london

I'm getting increasingly worried about the position aresnal are in at the moment. If Henry goes then we will have to rely on the inexperienced pair of V. Persie and Adabeyor who just miss all of the shots that Fabregas and the others set up for them.
WE need to sign an experienced goal scorer who will not be afraid to shot on target!

my suggestions for a signing could be either Anelka or McCarthy as the have the finishing needed to score and wouldn't be too expensive for an Aresnal side that is afraid of spending, they need to sign someone to complete alongside with the other clubs.

I think that if Henry were to go then Fabregas would be a serious contender for captain as he has the skill and maturity to take a arsenal back to the top.
Long LIVE ARSENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fabregas for president!

Where have all these rumours about Henry leaving come from, can someone put up a link. And I think it's ridiculous that everyone bags Arsenal for not having many English players... who cares what race they are as long as they are good footballers, it's almost verging on the lower end of the scale of racism.loyalgunner2007-06-09 21:32:58

Im fine with Arsenal being slow and methodical in the transfer market. When was the last time asrenal bought a superstar player other than Bergkamp? We have a long history of buying players who other teams underate and then turning them into world class players. Who where Vierra, Henry, Anelka, when arsenal brought them in. They all took a season to settle in, if you look at it like that then this could be the season Hleb, rosicky, & adebayour all start putting it in the back of the net. I read a lot of arsenal newsites sites and fan blogs and the consensus is arsenal have a good squad, have good coverage in most positions on the pitch and If they sign anyone this year it will be to cover the likes of toure, eboue and adebayour all going of to african nations cup for a month.

A - Henry will not leave, speculation is speculation.

UberGunner:
You make a good point re: methodical transfers at Arsenal. I agree. However, do you honestly think we don't need some fresh blood out wide?

Steve:
A. I don't believe Henry will leave. I was just putting it out there. This morning his agent rubbished such claims.

B. And English players tend to be substantially overpriced.

C. Interesting - I thought perhaps that pic at the tube station was a fake. TBH I quite like the new away shirt and will undoubtedly pick one up for the forthcoming season (I don't care if Spurs wear white...we'll perform better in it than them :P ).

People from other teams see how Arsenal are better than their team and look for something about Arsenal to complain about, and they see the lack of English players. If Arsenal had a squad full of English players I don't think people would be complaining about the race of the players, so, if they are complaining about thei race of the players now then you could say that it is bordering on racism. I know Arsenal are an English club, but it doesn't matter where the players come from as long as other English players are getting chances to turn pro elsewhere in the country (it isn't like in NZ if you get turned down by the Phoenix there is nowhere in the country you can go where there is a pro football team).

If you are looking for some new blood in the squad Ryan Babel ( http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/fo/profiles/20524.html) from Ajax would be a great start. i have just seen this http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/14062007/1/babel-dreams-playing-arsene.html article about him wanting to go to Arsenal. Yeah he looks pretty promising as a left wing/back up striker. He doesn't seem to score a lot though (2006/07 - 36 appearances for 7 goals and 2 assists).

Plus he just signed a 3 year deal with Ajax 4 months ago (for what it's worth).

Javier Saviola is available from Barca, he may not be thier No.1 Striker but that is more to do with Frank Rijkaard's preferance for Eto up front, than any lack of talent. With Just 7 appearances this season, he still scored 5 times.

Isn't Reyes coming back this season? I thought he was only on loan for a year at Real Madrid. I think with Reyes, Henry, van Persie, and Aliadiere we are quite safe up front, just the midfield that needs strengthening.
Starting XI

The problem is Reyes doesnt want to come back to england, so we kinda have to sell him or he will spend the whole season disrupting the team saying how he hates england all the time. I would love for him to want to play for us but it would be a complete change of mood for him to want to do that. (p.s if anyone wants to buy an autographed reyes shirt with authentication ill sell mine)

So if Real Madrid keep Reyes does that mean we keep Julio Baptista, because those two switched clubs as part of the deal. Baptista is a good player, and he proved that when he scored four goals in that carling cup (or was it fa cup?) match.

I just read the Reyes is likely to sign a deal with Atletico Madrid. Also we have already sent Baptista back to Real Madrid as Wenger didnt think the price we would have to pay was worth making the deal permanent.

It was a season loan with the choice to purchase at the end of the season.

I can't see Reyes coming back.
I also can't see Eto coming either.

Henry will prob stay though which i think is good.

Who would you want joining us out of Anelka, Trezeguet, or Owen?

Out of those three - Anelka by a country mile if the price is right!

Had a great season with Bolton and looks back to his best, Owen is too risky as he is injury-prone and Trezeguet is past his peak although still a handy player.

id be keen for meluda if liverpool doesnt get him, ryan babels looking good too. im not sure about trezeguet. i wish we coudlve kept baptista, i think a south american in the team wouldve been good. as for henry i dont think, or maybe im just hoping like hell, that he will move this season. i hope we can get at least one more good season from him, as soon as he moves wenger and fabregas i think would go soon after.

I think the two brazilian midfielders we have are good enough to have kept Baptisita out of the squad. Gilberto is becoming more important as the years go by, and Denilson looks to be another one of Wengers super buys (Denilsoin is the current brazilian under 20 captain)

Anelka would be a great signing, and it would also be good to have Henry teamed up with Trezeguet (we should try to get both). Definitely not Owen though, as Dennis Ibrahim said, he is far too injury-prone.

I think we are ok for strikers atm (baring alot of injuries or the Henry exodus) some more cover in defence is required. I dont think Toure and Gallas complement each other well, Senderos has potential but he took alot of stick last year after being shown up by Drogba. I just wonder who we have as cover for Clichy if he gets injured. Im not sure Hoyte is that good on the left, and that doesnt leave us with an obvious choice for a replacement.

They're just in an ackward situation at the moment. It's all young guys. They just need a bit of experience, hardening up and control. All the Arsenal fans miss the players from the last 5-10 or so years. We need the anchor players in defence, midfield and up front. We miss the "old men".
I also hope Henry stays put. I have full faith in the team this year. They just need to step up and take responsibility for the actions. If our goal scorers hadn't missed so many chances, the season would have looked alot different.
