Have finally got round to writing about this after completing it a month or so ago.

Basically the course is broken into three parts to provide the foundation for more specific learning in level 2.

The first part looks at how to be an effective coach by focusing on player centred coaching.  Player centred coaching is basically a technique that allows players to have a greater ownership of their development. It involves coaches getting players to solve problems through questioning players on their opinions/thoughts.

The second part identifies players' mental, physical, social/emotional, and technical/technical needs, and how these may vary between players because of their age, and development phase.

The final part looks at how to cater for player's needs by provide information on how to plan a coaching session.  Basically a session should have 6 components: warm up, football fitness, football technique, individual/team tactics, football games, cool down.

There is a small practical element at the end when coaches are asked, in groups, to run a 5-10 minute mini drill that relates to one of the 6 components above.  It isn't assessed, and the instructor and other coaches provide feedback.

As part of the course resources you get a CD with a number of drills and exercise that fit into the 6 components above.

I hadn't done the old Youth Level 1, so I can't compare like with like.  But I did do the old junior level 1, and it seems that there is now a greater emphasis on teaching coaches how to coach, and how to structure a training session.  Where as there was a great emphasis on providing drills/exercise to fill up a training session.
