Take a look at NZ Footballs idea of a new and improved media.

Just a few days away from the first game and what a joke it is.

They've scratched the asbpremiership.co.nz/nzfc.co.nz site and are directing people to use nzfootball.co.nz for the news and results. The blurb says it will all be incorporated into the new NZ Football site which is being redesigned.

I'm not sure why you would scrap it now, next season when the new site is up and running, maybe, but right before the season is starting with no improvement in coverage? Daft

ah i see.  i knew they were working on something, but assumed it must have been ready.

have you seen the asb prem facebook page?

no posts since april

how do they expect anyone to be interested in a league that they aren't interested in themselves?

I don't think I've ever been to it. I find TW and Auckland City do a bloody good job of coverage on social media. Southern seem to be getting their shit sorted now too.

New Zealand Football have a new strategy for this season and beyond. There are no live updates or game specific previews/reviews as there was in previous years. Not 100% sure of the rationale behind this but a number of football people I've spoken to are disappointed by this.

That is disappointing. Guessing hardly anyone read them? You'd hope it would be replaced with something else. ie. an NZF preview and review article, and twitter updates etc?

first in the zone drop their ASBP coverage and now NZF follow suit.

Just to clarify, I mean live from the local reporters. I understand NZF are trying to co-ordinate it all and produce it all from HQ.

Some clubs are trying to fill the gap, and my updates can be found tomorrow at www.aucklandcityfc.com.

While I am a bit disappointed, if it means they are more consistent then it could be excused. Hopefully its only for a short time while they get their new site and systems in place.

Consistency , per se , never been a problem ....

The problem with NZF's new strategy is that they're

A) Relying on franchises to either take the initiative and step up the array of their coverage, or simply relying on them to be active on gameday on Twitter, something roughly half the clubs struggled to do last season.

B) Using people who are employed by the club to give updates, so they're naturally going to be slightly one-eyed or flat out biased in their coverage - either in analysing the game's key decisions, or how they choose to cover it, aka heavily sided towards their home squad.

How can a local reporter, eg say someone from The Press, meant to glean accurate facts from an away game when all they might have for coverage is Twitter updates from the opposing club?

Also with the game recaps and previews - how is somebody from NZF offices going to be able to competently analyse anything if they're covering say Southern v Canterbury?

I think they'd admit it is a cost cutting exercise - in which case I hope the cash saved goes towards something worthwhile. Maybe the old system was proven to not work - but this new tactic seems to be purposefully going backwards - at a time where futsal, which people care far less about, is being live streamed on stuff.

If they manage to get complete buy-in from all the franchises, then it could be a good move. But I am very sceptical that this is anything other than an intentional step backwards.

It's not like they broke the bank paying people to cover it... more than that though if the clubs are now expected to do it are they getting more money from NZ Football to cover the cost?

Are they fuck.

scrap the live streaming of the indoor social football league and put it toward some halfway decent media coverage of the national (real football) league?

!!! Really? Come on NZF you can't rely on Aus forever. However, what you can do us learn. A league is increasingly popular - you can have a good league in NZ. Believe!!!!

Thanks for the updates. Just don't wait for NZF to help with a promotional package for the league.

Without ACFC this competition would become a dinosaur.

Don't know about anyone else's thoughts but the new ASB premiership site run through NZ Football's site is an utter joke.

Going from a stand alone site to this is a huge backward step.  A few points

1.  Really hard to find up and coming draws - seems to link to the clunky sporting pulse site

2.  The whole graphical set up would barely rank a 2 out of 10 on user friendlyness eg too much scroll down

3.   Try the full fixtures and results option and you get basically nothing

4.   Click on the team links not many work

5.  Click on sponsor links if a team link works - if I were a sponsor I would ask for some money back

6.  Click on other link and it takes an age for anything to show.

7.  Heaps more to comment on but can't get anything to load quick enough to comment on now and don't want to waste my time.

I give up....  This is so sad when the old asbpremiership.co.nz site was actually very good.

navigating fixtures is a nightmare, I have to admit. ACFC having fixtures and rounds all over the place stuff it up a bit.

Can't help yourself - blaming the shitty NZF/ASBP site on Auckland.

Yeah dont really get it why they have to list fixtures by round instead of date?

What round it is is fairly irrelevant, supporters just want to know what day game is on they dont care if its round 1 or 16

i reckon it looks great but doesn't function at all well.  it's very un-intuitive and difficult to find basic information.  nothing that can't be ironed out in the near future i would hope
