Here it is, the grand final match thread!

Although I don't actively support any team in this comp I'm really happy both of these teams are in the final. The kiwi talent on display at the top level is awesome to see!

Hopefully some Teedubs supporters can make it up for the game.

I know he hasn't got the right coaching badges, but if Hay coaches ES to a win in the Handa Prem final, does he put himself in the reckoning to be a future coach of the Nix. ES have played some very nice football this season, with a young starting lineup pretty much 100% Kiwi.

If he was potentially in consideration for the Nix head job, does the mad hatter Edge join him? Would be great too see an improved relationship between Phoenix & Ole.

Of course is all moot with Rudan still in charge, and no Kiwi resident coaches having the badges that are required by FFA for non Australian coaches in the A League.

If the Nix's longevity is effectively confirmed by NLWG tomorrow, one of Welnix's first priorities should be lobbying hard that Kiwi resident coaches are treated the same as Australian ones, re A League qualification requirements. It's common sense that a Kiwi resident coach is much more likely to hang around at the Nix (aka Herbert) and give the club some stability. Rudan has done a great job this season, but if he's off back to Oz at season end it becomes hugely unsettling all over again.

One season the team make the playoffs and he's ready to be a Nix coach?. What about Ramon and Jose??

Not to mention that this team isn't really Hay's team anyway or a team that he's built himself. Jose's done way more with a lot less for the purpose of this discussion too.

Yipe all 3 deserve to be part of any discussion.

Hay has had to blend in the Western Suburbs players with existing lot at ES, so it is at least partly his team. Jose F has done bloody good as well, with again predominantly NZ players and much smaller budget than ACFC.

Ramon T been around a long time, but ACFC are way more resourced than any other Handa Prem club, and they bring through too few Kiwi players for me.

What's a bit interesting to me as well is that the Nix squad, seem to have responded well to Rudan's 'hard man' no nonsense/no excuses outward style. That is obviously very simplistic, and Rudan I'm sure has more than just that going on. But when I look at the Handa Prem coaches, they all seem a bit outwardly 'too nice' - apart from Hay, and obviously Angell. Same problem Greenacre. Just a casual observation.

So if in the future the Nix have a more Kiwi coaching setup, someone like Hay maybe worth having in the mix, even as an assistant.

Anyway it's all a bit pointless as a discussion unless Kiwi based coaches, are in the future treated same as the Aussies re A League necessary quals.

Rudan doesn't strike me as having a hard man style, he seems quite compassionate.

It's their 2nd season in the playoffs, and were 2 points off making them in their first year in the league.

You can be both.

Perhaps the term no-nonsense/no excuses is better. He's had a few sideline bustups with other coaches. Hasn't blamed the refs, travel etc much that I remember after a loss - which can smack of a weak attitude if it happens all the time.

Not afraid to say that the club had a reputation for being 'soft mentally' across the ditch.

Not afraid to call out the Welnix owners when he wants more.

Not afraid to quickly cut a player when they are not doing enough (Nicholls), or not signing some players without them committing to a trial (Payne?, Howieson?).

His way, and if you are not in see you later.

In his three seasons at TeeDubs, Jose has won 1 NZ title, 1 OFC title, and made the NZ grand final in every single season. And obviously he has the chance to add to that in this his third season still.

Danny wasn't the coach in the first season though.

I think the difference today will be who takes their chances.

Tee dubs will need to close down Mcowat.

Drove to stadium. Parked. Stupidly big line. Walked to other entrance gate, an even bigger line with only two ticket booths open. Walked back to previous gate. No eftpos.

Now I’m heading home.

What a joke of an event.

Not working so far. 2-0, and McCowatt at the double as he hits 20 goals for the season. Phenomenal!

He's been credited with it for now. Will see what happen's with it later on. Either way, happy with the result as it stands currently.

That was an absolute thrashing, the 3 goal margin barely does it justice. So much for Wellington's 'experience' coming through.

Won’t happen, but not absolute madness for Nix and McCowatt to sign a short 2 mth deal as an injury replacement for Fenton. Thats if Elliott or Gulley are perceived as good enough to do Fenton’s role.

Why would you sign a striker to replace a RWB?

Because he’s the best young talent in the Handa Prem, and if there is the slimmest chance he would consider the Nix, I say grab it. He really was super impressive today. Comes in and trains for 2 mths in a pro environment and who knows what could happen.

Note I said only if it was considered Elliott or Gulley could do a job, in Fenton’s absence. Alternatively what are the actual chances of finding quality RWB cover with 6-8 weeks to go until season end?

With a bunch of other 20 yr olds. That’s a world away from hanging day in day out with pros with 10 yrs plus experience, including long overseas stints etc.

Great final.

I'm a Teedubs fan but the quality of the goals - especially the vision for the first (Just's lob...etc), was enough to ease the pain.

The changing of the guard in NZ football perhaps?

The young academy programmes getting more fuel to attract even more aspiring footballers.

A great weekend for Ole - Reserves won, Senior team without all players dismantled Rangers in the Rua with two 16-year-olds scoring and the Eastern Suburbs experiment pays dividends.

Two finals - 4 goals - all to McCowatt.

He's like a Kennedy that can play footy.

Will NZF ever look at what Ole is doing and think - hey this works?

Instead of all the various things and styles they're trying to drive through clubs which aren't having much result in turning out players.
